Guys. It’s capsule time! :)
Yesterday, I posted a quick capsule refresher and how my approach has changed over the years. If you missed it, definitely go back and give it a read first.
So back to today! In this post, we’ll look at:
- My spring wardrobe
- The planning process
- Capsule by category
You ready? Let’s jump right in — here’s the whole thing:
THE PLANNING PROCESS
Process: Planning this time around was easy-peasy. I’m chalking it up to years of practice. But! Since I’m not setting my wardrobe in stone or taking a 3 month shopping fast, there was so much less pressure to get it perfect — which felt amazing. I simply edited down to my favorite pieces, knowing I could change them out as needed. Yep, I think this whole relaxed capsule-ish thing is going to work out just fine. :)
Color palette: My favorite thing about my capsule? This color palette! All the heart eyes! I’ve been wanting to build on my mostly blue color palette, and that blush and cognac ended up complimenting those blues beautifully. I think it could be a good all year round color palette — it’s got the springy pinks, but also that warm cognac color for fall.
Lifestyle: My lifestyle is super casual. I live in a small town and work from home, so the jeans and tee thing works for me most of the time — even for date nights or patio drinks. However, I threw in a few silk tops and chunky heels for those times I want to dress up a bit more.
Weather: The weather in Texas in spring can be all over the place, and I won’t hesitate to grab a coat out of storage if I need it. However, I’ve got enough layers in this capsule that I’d probably be fine without a coat. If we happen to have one last freeze, I can throw on a base layer + sweater tee + wool coatigan + jeans + ankle booties + wool socks + beanie and be set!
CAPSULE BY CATEGORY
Let’s break it down by category. If you see a piece you like, you can shop it and support Unfancy at the same time by using the links below. This keeps Unfancy ad free, and allows me to devote more time + energy to it (which I love to do — thank you for making it possible. It makes me so happy to share this stuff with you guys!).
BOTTOMS: INITIAL THOUGHTS
It’s no secret I’m a denim girl. It’s pretty much all I wear. So I just went with it, and included four pairs of jeans, one pair of overalls, and two pairs of shorts.
Each one had to pass a comfort test — they have to be comfy enough for a Netflix-on-the-couch night. And I’m happy to say, almost every single one passed! The only exception is my mom jeans — they aren’t quite broken in to that point yet, but they’re getting there. Have a look:
DRESSES: INITIAL THOUGHTS
Next up? Dresses! Dresses have started playing a bigger part in my wardrobe. They are just so darn comfortable and easy.
This time I included five dresses — although I’ll probably add another dress or two as the season goes on.
I’ve got lots of different shapes + silhouettes here, from classic sheath to a romper to a flowy boho minidress that I can’t wait for you to see in real life. It’s a little out there for me, but it’s just right for those days when I’m feeling … out there. :)
Anyway, including different silhouettes helps me get more out of these dresses. None of them are too precious, so they cover a range of occasions, from hanging out with my nieces and nephews to a fancy dinner out. Have a look:
OUTER LAYERS: INITIAL THOUGHTS
Even though I live in Texas, and it’s mostly warm, we still get some crazy weather swings in the spring. So I’ve included a super warm wool coatigan and a cashmere cardigan (the oatmeal colored one), along with some lighter layers.
Honestly, I’m a little on the fence about the knit vest and the jean jacket. At this very moment, I’m not feeling them. But I went ahead and included them anyway. If I haven’t worn them in a few weeks I might put them back in storage for a little while. They’ll feel right again one day, and I’d never let these gems go — but storage might be right for the moment.
SHOES: INITIAL THOUGHTS
I’m hitting the cognac color pretty hard in the shoe department, but I’ve also got a bit of grey, black, and white to round it out.
Most of my shoes are flat because, comfort. :) But I’ve also got three pairs of heels to dress things up when needed. For spring weather swings, I’ve got four pairs of open toe shoes and four pairs of closed toe shoes. Have a look:
TOPS: INITIAL THOUGHTS
I wanted to add more pattern and more of that pink color to this category, but I haven’t found the right pieces yet. In fact, the pink tee is actually just a placeholder — I haven’t found one I love yet. So I’m playing the waiting game. You’ll be the first to know when I find it. :)
Other than that, I’m really happy with this collection of tops. I’ve got silk pieces that can be dressed up, a few long sleeves for chilly spring days, and plenty of comfy tees for everyday. Have a look:

There you have it — my spring capsule-ish wardrobe!
What do you think? Does that color palette sing to you, too? Got any questions about why I included a particular piece? Ask away in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer them.
And hey — there’s still a ton of fun stuff coming this week. On Thursday, I’ll share a tour of my closet + chat wardrobe organization. Then on Friday, I’ll delve into some capsule Q+A including how my capsule works for weather swings.
See you Thursday!
