Summer is around the corner, and in sweltering weather, jackets are a non starter.
But a light, loose button up shirt? Big yes! They make wearing a “third piece” possible, even at the height of summer. An overshirt adds interest and sophistication to otherwise minimal outfits that are more concerned with the practical need of staying cool than anything else.
So my summer wardrobe relies heavily on big button up shirts.
I was in Denton this weekend, so I hit up my favorite vintage store (Les Muses, HIGHLY recommend!) with the express purpose of finding a couple good button up shirts.
And OMG I found this GORGEOUS striped Ralph Lauren shirt. The stitching! The fabric! The quality! I love it so much that I’ve worn it every single day since Saturday. To me it has the vibe of this Ganni shirt I see everywhere (without the Ganni price tag).
Speaking of the price tag, this particular vintage shop is on the higher end of the spectrum, and this shirt was $50 — the SAME price as a usually-not-so-great-quality Zara button up. Interesting to note.
Anyway, the dry cleaning tag from the previous owner was left in this shirt, so I just want to say thank you to Brad S., whoever you are, for parting with this shirt. Because I love it.
P.S. Um HELLO stripes on stripes! I think this pattern play is so fun! What do you think? Into it or not so much?

kind of unrelated to this- but how do you fight the urge to get multiple variations of your favorite items? for ex. i have a hard time stopping myself from relax fit sweaters, which makes me feel bored of my style even when they are in different prints & colors. What ends up happening is me having 5 different fits of one color sweater that i can’t get rid of haha
This is such a good question. Last year I noticed I had been looping on jeans — I was always in search of the “perfect” pair and so I kept buying them even thought I didn’t need more and felt a little bored with them anyway. I think for me, it just helps to pay close attention over time. Asking questions is always helpful: Is this something I love to buy but hate to wear? Is this something I love to buy but feel bored when I wear it? What’s something that’s exciting me right now — what if I bought that instead?
Love this! The colors! One of my favorite pieces for summer is a striped vintage Dior button front (stolen from my ever so gracious husband). Oversized shirts are so versatile and c-o-m-f-y!
