You’ve heard me say it before: summer is my season, and I kinda dread the shorter days and chilly weather of autumn + winter.

But here’s the big question — am I turning this into a self-fulfilling prophecy?

As fall approaches, I’m realizing that I might be making things harder on myself by running this script in my head.

So I’m doing a little probing here. Is there really so much to dread? I suppose not. Do I actually hate fall? No! Aren’t there some things I enjoy about fall? For sure!

The shorter days can make me feel a little blue, but maybe I can view it as an invitation to slow down and prioritize rest. Maybe the earlier sunsets can be an opportunity to enjoy the glimmer of candles in the evenings. Does anyone remember years ago, when I’d share my candle lighting ritual on Instagram each day at sunset? It helped ease the transition from day to night. I think it’s time to bring that ritual back. <3

So, with you as my witness, I am gently shifting my focus from what makes me nervous about the upcoming season to what makes me excited.

I remember the candle routine and evening playlist!

I love autumn. I love the cool breeze that tiptoes its way in like little glimpses of what’s to come. I love all the warm colors and warm light. I love cozy blankets on the couch with a warm drink and a cozy movie. I feel like the world is a little quieter in the fall.

I don’t remember the candles on Insta but I’m here for it and may start a routine reminder on Alexa .
Fall is my favorite season- love the cloths that allow me to layer lightly, love the cooler nights, love opening a window for the breeze, of course- the leaves… the leaves! Bike rides anytime!, and football. And there is something about back to school and candy corn that just delights me to my core!

Fall also makes me blue but for a different reason. I live in Florida now and fall doesn’t really exist in the way it does in my home state of Virginia. No more chilly mornings or falling leaves and it makes me so sad! So I try to find ways to make me excited for fall that aren’t dependent on the weather: fall themed books, movies, playlists; trying various pumpkin spice drinks at local coffee shops; wearing an autumnal lipstick shade. Little ways of acknowledging this transitional time in my heart even if not knitwear isn’t included.

I’m also a child of summer. I thrive in the warmth and I enjoy that my fashion choices feel unrestricted, literally, without the need for long sleeves and layers and heavy boots and itchy fabrics.

But what I do look forward to in Fall is the shift to bringing that warmth inside. Fires and tea and hearty soups are comforting and replace a little bit of my sunshine cravings.
