Tuesday, January 16 • So, what do you do when the internet says something is overdone, but you still love it? I briefly asked myself this question while getting ready this morning. I’ve been really excited to try red socks with Sambas — something that’s arguably overdone right now. But two thoughts here:
1 | Just the other day I was watching a video from one of my favorite YouTubers (Gemary Ermus — she’s got the best minimal style, follow her if you’re not already) and she was talking about things she still loves despite the fact they’ve been done to death on the internet — and I had to chuckle when I hadn’t even heard of half of them. It was a nice reminder that we don’t all live in the same algorithm. Just because you’ve seen something a thousand times doesn’t mean everyone has — so it might not be overdone after all.
2 | On top of that, something may feel overdone on the internet, but have you ever seen it in real life? When I stop and ask myself this, the answer is usually no or at least not much. That’s my real cue. Whenever I get to thinking my beloved Sambas are overdone (and maybe I should stop wearing them??), I pause and realize I’ve only ever seen them in the wild like 3 times. ALSO I LOVE THEM. Reason enough, right there.
So anyway, I wore my red socks with Sambas today and loved every damn minute of it. :-D
I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you navigate internet things like this, or if you have a similar story. Share away in the comments!
Also! Stumbled into a Spotify radio channel that perfectly matched my vibe today. Lush and a little moody, but good beats and good vibes. Thought I’d share.

Love this outfit and definitely agree on the difference between “in the wild” and “on the internet.” I’ve never bought Abercrombie jeans before – how does the sizing compare to Madewell’s, if you don’t mind sharing? Thank you!
Hi Sarah! I’m usually a 25 at Madewell, but a 26 at Abercrombie — I’d recommend going up one size at Abercrombie. Abercrombie’s washes are SO GOOD — they nail the vintage denim look, but they have a little bit of stretch to them which is so nice.
Thanks so much! Excited to give them a try. :)
Sigh. I feel the same way about my Nike Blazers. I love’ em but feel like they’re so overdone right now. I do see them frequently “in the wild” too.
