Worn on Tuesday, January 23 | Weather: Rainy, 45-55°F
I usually devote a whole 20 minutes to getting dressed in the mornings. Putting together a look is rarely effortless — it usually takes a few tries, some trial and error. But this morning it was a full on STRUGGLE.
I went through 6 or 7 outfits this morning and nothing was working. The pile of clothes on my bed was growing, my 20 minutes were dwindling, and my confidence was waning. I finally settled on track pants and a sweater, and went to leave the house.
But as I was taking one final look in the mirror before I left, my spirit sank. I felt 0% confident in it. Today of all days, I needed an extra boost of confidence from my outfit. This one just wasn’t doing it. So, feeling rushed and frustrated, I endeavored to start the whole process from scratch.
It’s in these moments that I have to lean hard into my safety. The thing that always works.
For me? It’s going sporty.
I couldn’t manage a dimensional outfit that combined sporty with something else like minimalist or classic. My creativity just wasn’t there today. So I went 100% sporty.
It worked. Just barely.
Whew.
What’s your safety? What do you fall back on when you’re rushed and uninspired?

FOREVER <3
Heyy Beautiful Caroline 😊
I discovered your blog maybe 2012/13 around my final years of highschool. I was sad but understanding when you took a break for a while.
I pop in quite regularly since you’ve been back in the space, catching good doses of inspiration and insight along the way. No one does it quite like you do! 😍Very thoughtful.
At first when you asked about daily or weekly posts, I was actually team weekly (I loved your posts aways back reflecting on the month where you had a number of outfits on the one page, and analysed them, also a post you did about what you packed for a trip that had cafe and walking clothes in it) but I read the comments voting team daily and came along for the daily ride and I’ve been enjoying my nightly “snack” of ooh what was todays outfit and why? 😄 I’m really loving it! I do appreciate the awareness you bring, honouring all the little aspects that go into a happy ‘fit. 👏
I’m here now and I’m having a “ohhhh thank you for giving me permission to be a human in this way too! It’s not just me some days!” 😄 thank you for this! I was planning to actually voice about these daily posts tonight and today is a great day!
Also, I’m realllllly happy to see your walking outfits! – last year I noticed that my real core wardrobe was all my easy wear soft/cosy + athleisure stuff… I do most of my life from there even if it’s not my fantasy self 😄 so please keep that coming too, because good long walks and being able to move free anytime truly is life indeed 😊✨
My safety would be said outfit/style above, with colours that are fresh and with (my version of) elevated hair/hair accessory/face/scent and always a smile ☺️ I find I have a small handful of things that I know well and I can move smoothly through life with and that gives me the biggest happy even if it’s the same same same 😄 I just tell myself, “I’m appropriate, and I’m honouring the contents of my day today”
All the best for tomorrow 😊thank you for your contribution to the world I appreciate it 😄 💛
Just came in to affirm what Rosy Lee said so beautifully. Thank you for this reply, Rosy Lee, and thank you for posting what you do, Caroline. This space is an oasis of outer and inner beauty.
Thank you for these kind words Jen — they brightened my day today. <3
Rosey! Wow! Your comment is incredibly kind and it made my day to read — thank you for taking the time to share this. I’m inspired by your motto: “I’m appropriate and I’m honoring the contents of my day today.” LOVE THAT. Since I share my outfits publicly, I often feel like people will think they aren’t interesting enough. But they “honor the contents of my day” as you say, and that’s actually my goal with all of this — to express my enthusiasm for fashion while also dressing for my real life (small town, casual lifestyle, etc). Such a good reminder. I love hearing that the walking outfits resonate — I’ll definitely keep sharing them. Also! I’m still planning to continue the monthly round-up/reflection posts too. :) Thank you for sticking with me through the inspired seasons, the uninspired seasons, the chatty seasons, the quiet seasons, and everything in between. I appreciate you. <3
😊 I thought I’d better reply! <3
I’m glad the motto resonates 😀
I think in this world of stunning social media sometimes we replace the magic of daily life with the magic of the perfect snap… then feel empty cause we are missing the even bigger picture, hey?!
We can’t always distil that everyday life magic into one perfect snap – gotta let those real things be wild and honour the real ‘real life’ contents of the day 😁👌
I definitely go for sporty for times I can’t find the right thing to wear that I feel comfortable in. Leggings and a sweatshirt are easy and so me! Running shorts and a tee in the summer. Birks or running shoes! Depending on the weather. We all have those days for sure!
