DAILY OUTFITS

I picked the exact wrong outfit to wear on this rainy day

11/08/24

Apparently this is the week that I basically repeat the same outfits, just with some slight variations.

M, W, Th: Mini skirt + big sweater

T, F: Baggy jeans + mini cardigan + baseball cap

But y’know what? Outfit repeating is real. And good. It means you’re grounded in your own sense of style. At least that’s what I’m telling myself. :)

The only downside to this outfit was that I wore it on a day when the skies just happened to open up and rain cats and dogs. It was wet feet, wet jeans, wet cashmere (not the cashmere!). Not my best planning, I admit.

In my post on Wednesday, I chatted about Liza Belmonte’s “Seven Outfit” concept. You figure out the 7 most common scenarios that pop up in your day to day life, then come up with a loose outfit formula you can apply to each scenario. What was #7 on my list? Rainy days. And this is exactly why:

So tell me, what’s your go-to outfit for a rainy day?

Anyway, I hope you have a restful weekend — lean into the things that make you feel happy this weekend.

Ok, I love that you included a picture of the “after” on your rainy day! It made me giggle.
Who among us hasn’t been there?

My rainy-day go-to is black wool joggers, a soft sweater, and my cozy raincoat. I live in Southern California, so my Doc Martens work as rain boots for the amount of rain we get here. And a hat! I don’t seem to be able to use an umbrella without somehow getting wetter, so a nice protective hat it is.

Your outfit looks amazing and super-cozy, anyway.

    Take good care, everyone.

I relate Jen! How is it that umbrellas always seem to get me more wet? And then what do I do with it once I get somewhere? Lol. Any umbrella experts want to chime in and help us? :) Thanks for sharing your go-to rainy day fit — sounds ideal!

Where I live, a lot of people wear shorts in the rain because skin dries faster than jeans. You might get away with that in your climate :). I get cold easily though so I tend to wear tracksuit bottoms or on dressier autumn days something with tights or fleece lined leggings (I tend to avoid athletic leggings in the rain when I’m not exercising as they are the absolute slowest to dry in my experience and your thighs will feel really yucky). I also bought a waterproof knitted hat recently which is already a game changer because I don’t like umbrellas either :)

I live in a very warm climate so I wear leather Reeboks or leather lug sole loafers, both of which are treated with Kiwi water protectant spray. A cropped pair of pants/jeans to avoid the dreaded wet hem and my trusty Rains long rain jacket that covers my bum (only thing worse than wet hem is a wet bum!). The rain jacket has a hood so no umbrella needed!

Sometimes I forget to watch the weather forecast… then I want to kick myself.
Last year I bought a Barbour jacket (second-hand) and since then, it’s my go-to for rainy days. I think I like the 90′ vibe about this jacket. A rainy day outfit also includes a closed shoe, so it’s often sweater + skinny jeans + Chelsea boots + Barbour jacket. When I want something different, I try the combo black leather skirt + Barbour jacket (a little unexpected, but not too dressy) or a good old sweater dress with tall boots and my Barbour jacket. Anyway, coming up with ‘brilliant ideas’ when it rains is really NOT easy…

I live in a city with lots of rain. One of my favourite dressing-tricks, is skirts and woolen leggings or stockings, and shoes with good soles, preferably leather. Wool keeps you warm even when it gets wet. The skirts do not need to be very short, the main goal is to not have anything that gets wet from the bottom, but I personally prefer mid thigh-length. A jacket with a hood is better than an umbrella, but do mind the fabric. Very smooth, waterproof jackets mean the rain slides down the jacket and makes you very wet where the jacket ends. A long jacket in a material that absorbes water, works better. Wool is again my favourite. But, all this being said, with the amount of rain we get here, I most often dress normally, then put on lightweight rainpants, jackets and rubber boots or at least shoes with gore tex. I carry a bag where I can stuff the pants and jackets when I get to where I am going.
