Tis the season for holiday things! The other day, my mom and I had a date to the Nutcracker ballet — but I hadn’t had time to pre-plan a look and I wasn’t sure what to wear. With limited time to get ready, I ended up falling back onto a uniform that always works for me — a short, loose sweater dress and tall boots.
I’ve been fascinated with this concept of uniform dressing for a long time — that is, finding an outfit formula that almost always works for me and repeating it again and again, with slight variations each time.
That night, I was so glad I’d already done the work of (a) identifying a uniform that actually works and (b) slowly and intentionally collecting the right pieces that make up that uniform. The getting ready process was stress-free and I felt comfortable and happy all night. It doesn’t seem to matter how many times I wear this uniform — I always love it.
The dress I’m wearing is old, but I found a similar dress at Quince — it’s cashmere and under $100!
What’s one of your go-to uniforms right now?
