Worn on: Tuesday, February 20
I had some difficult emotions come up last night, and they lingered into this morning too. In moments like these, getting dressed feels unimportant — but then I remember how caring, even about mundane things, is exactly what helps.
So I folded myself into comforting clothes for this warm day. Shorts, but make them fleecy sweatshorts. Then Birkenstock clogs — soft, supportive sheaths for my feet. Add a baseball cap for a little bubble of privacy in case of tears. Then anklets for joy.
And then this denim jacket. O this sweet, sweet jacket. I had planned on wearing a leather jacket, but that felt too hard, too edgy for today. No, what I needed was my denim jacket. It sits so lightly and delicately on my skin, yet it also makes me feel safe and protected. It feels like I’m wearing a hug.
That’s me today. I hope you’re having a good day. Be extra kind to yourself today. <3

Thank you, Kathy <3
You’re right : choosing the right clothes often helps when one feels blue. This outfit looks amazing, by the way!
So sorry you are having a tough day, Caroline! Thank you for modeling what it means to care anyway. I hope things feel better for you real soon.
So kind of you to say — thank you Mallory!
Love this. Thank you for sharing the emotional part of you, Even when you’re feeling this way, your blog and person still give off enough light that it brightens my day!
Thank you Lauren <3
This whole post was exactly what I needed today. Thank you.
I was talking with a friend yesterday about how quickly I start to browse for clothes online the minute things get rough at work (which they do often). I was telling her how I see the connection now between the cause and my behavior, and how I am finally realizing that having a(nother) new, cozy sweater is not going to make my work environment any healthier. And her response really made me think: she said, “Yeah, that’s true, but also, getting dressed, choosing your clothes, is a way of saying ‘I am here. I matter.'”
Thank you for the ways you teach and model responsibly using clothes and fashion to communicate and to comfort. Take good care of yourself today. 💖
Jen, thank you for taking the time to share this, I loved reading it. What a beautiful conversation with your friend. Sending so much love <3 <3
There’s a wonderful band called Sammy Rae and the Friends who have lots of uplifting songs you might enjoy – including a song called Bulletproof Denim Jacket.
Hoping you are feeling better soon. 🤍
Thanks so much for the song rec, Sass! Music lifts me like nothing else. <3
thanks for sharing the normal, I hope you feel better.
Thanks for Sharing Caroline. I too had a rough day yesterday as my sister is going through cancer treatments. Today I also chose a Comfy dressy work outfit. A pair of cozy knitted black pants and a nice striped button up. It looked put together but cozy which was what I needed today. Thanks for reminding us that clothes can affect how we feel as a form of self care. I have been following you f or a very long time.. . Your style has become more sporty than mine but I still love seeing your outfits. Sending well wishes from Montana.
I’m so sorry to hear about your sister Debbie. Sending you love and strength for the journey. <3
