I’m NOT wearing a canvas bag for once!

I’ve been thinking about ways to add interest to spring/summer outfits. In the heat, you can’t layer as much, but you CAN add TEXTURE via accessories!

I decided a straw bag would be my first step. Easy, right? Straw bags are everywhere. But as I embarked on the shopping quest, I realized there were very few bags that met my needs. Here’s what I was looking for:

• Must be high quality and heavy duty! No flimsy beach bags allowed. I need a bag that can handle schlepping my laptop and books daily.
• Must not shed. You know how some straw bags leave bits of straw debris everywhere? Nope, we can’t have that.
• Must be flexible, not stiff. Somewhere between straw and fabric, but also *not* fabric.
• Must be around $100.

I searched and searched until I found this one from J.Crew — it ticked all the boxes! The price was right ($118), it doesn’t shed, and best of all it is STURDY with secure straps. My laptop fits all the way inside without sticking out the top. SO happy! It’s going to be a great daytime bag AND a great pool bag.

This outfit has sporty vibes (track pants) and rock’n’roll vibes (graphic tee, extra jewelry including statement earrings!). I think it’s all so cool, but my favorite part is how the straw bag adds this note of effortless, relaxed ease. It gives a delicious tension that makes an outfit come alive.

Real quick, before I go, allow me to make another real-time edit to the outfit. I’m kind of rethinking the flip flops with this look after all. Maybe a sleek brown fisherman sandal would have looked better? Or even just a black flip flop?
