Nothing has transformed my style like being honest with myself about my *actual* lifestyle. Once I ditched the fantasy and focused on the reality, my closet started to make a whole lot more sense.
About 90% of my lifestyle is super casual — I work from home (or coffee shops), I live in a small city where the vibe is decidedly casual, and “going out” is mostly just going over to friends’ houses to curl up on the couch and watch shows. Nothing fancy, and I’ve gotten really good at dressing for this 90%.
But! Even still, there’s a sliver of my lifestyle that I’ve neglected! It’s not quite dressy, but more like refined casual. Think small community events, meetings, etc. These things require a more polished look — boxer shorts and a graphic tee certainly won’t cut it!
So, I made it my goal to come up with *one* go-to outfit that nails this refined casual vibe. That way, when an event comes up, I don’t have to scramble or feel like I have nothing to wear.
And here’s the uniform! The linen vest, neutral color palette, minimal accessories, and woven bag — BIG YES! This look makes me feel like myself — a slightly elevated version of myself, that is.

This Madewell vest is a gem, but unfortunately, everyone else figured that out too and now it’s sold out. Fingers crossed for a restock. Reformation has a similar one, and Gap has one that’s more cropped.
