Wednesday 1/10 • Remember how yesterday I had major outfit inspiration around a mini skirt and a big ol’ leather jacket? But my plan was foiled because of the weather?
Often when that happens, all that inspo gets forgotten underneath a pile of mental to-dos and such.
Well, not this time! I’ve started a little note on my phone called Outfit Seeds and I make notes immediately when I feel inspired. It doesn’t even have to be a fully formed outfit idea — partial ideas are very welcome. Like “red and charcoal grey” or “red claw clip on canvas bag.” (Okay yeah I’m really into red right now.) This in-the-moment note taking has become a vital practice in my personal style journey. Especially since I’ve found that fashion inspiration comes in waves — I’ll have an avalanche of fresh ideas for a few days, then nothing for weeks.
So I pulled out my Outfit Seeds this morning, remembered this gem of an idea, and crossed my fingers that the weather forecast would match the outfit — and it did! SUCCESS! I love this look so much! The sporty little skirt and big leather jacket have the best tension with each other! I think it works well because these two contrasting textures are tied together in color — both black.
This vintage leather bomber is still my best vintage find to date. I found it in the dead of summer, a few years back. It was WAY too hot to be buying a leather jacket, but I knew I couldn’t leave it. It came with a not-so-lovely smell, but I was able to get it out over the course of about 4 months. If you’re in the market for a leather jacket, I’d recommend trying vintage first. You can get such good quality, often for a good price. But if you haven’t had any luck secondhand, I’ve also gathered up a nice round up of similar jackets, ranging from $65-$125.

I love the Outfit Seeds idea! I’m the same way with my creativity bursts for clothing or home decor ideas. Sometimes I’m on a roll and sometimes it’s a barren dessert, but it would be great to have a place to go for inspiration when the ideas were flowing!
