We had a chilly snap, so it’s back to jackets and long pants today! I styled these cargo pants with my New Balance 530 sneakers the other day and loved it so much I decided to repeat the look today.
Okay, allow me to do a little show and tell:
Meet my new Madewell tote!
I snagged the Madewell Handwoven Leather Tote during their Insider sale in March, and it finally came in! I’m so glad I got it because this Coffee Bean color was so popular that it’s backordered until July (noooooo). However, Nordstrom has the Desert Camel color in stock right now, and it’s equally gorgeous.
This bag is a GEM. When I pulled it out of the box, that amazing leather smell wafted out with it. I love the shape — it’s somehow slouchy and structured at the same time. And the size is generous without being so big it’s difficult to wrangle. I can fit my 13″ laptop, book, water bottle, and purse essentials with room to spare.
I’m excited to style it with my sportier pieces — I think it’ll elevate them and create some interesting contrast. And I’m also excited to pair it with some of my black summer dresses — I think black and brown is one of the chicest color combos.

hello! i have been eyeing this bag on the madewell website, i just started working and wanted invest in a work bag. the price point of this bag is a bit high for me so im considering for a long time before committing! i have seen a lot of mixed reviews on the madewell website that says the leather sheds and stains clothing, do you encounter any of these? how did you find the bag after using it for 4 months? couldn’t find any other review on this bag anywhere, hope you can help. thanks in advance!!
Hi Zoe! I totally hear you, and I’m happy to give my thoughts!
Pros: It’s high quality, it’s beautiful, the weave is staying nice and tight, the size is IDEAL for a laptop, water bottle, and my daily necessities. Mine did not shed or transfer color onto my clothes (I feel like that’s kind of a lucky coincidence though.)
Cons: I do notice that after several months of solid wear it has stretched out a bit at the top. It slightly change the shape of the bag and makes it look less polished and more worn-in. For me, I do love a patina’d look to a bag, so it’s not quite a con for me, but just know this is definitely a bag that reads more casual.
