DAILY OUTFITS

Professional Caroline has entered the chat! And she has thoughts!

06/11/25

Y’all. It is so rare that I have to dress for something professional — but all of a sudden I’m finding myself at events that call for something more polished.

And, on the inside, I’m giddy about it! I style my clients for professional settings all the time, but getting to do it for myself is really fun.

At first, I styled this look in a way that felt “safe” to me — with a pair of high-rise straight-leg jeans. You know the type: they balance out the oversized blazer, create a waist, show a little ankle. It made sense. It would be easily “readable” by others. It looked good.

But…it didn’t really feel right for me that day.

So I swapped them for these oversized, baggy jeans — and suddenly the outfit came alive.

Some say oversized-on-oversized is a no-no. But lol, some say anything. The internet is full of contradictory advice. That’s why I think it’s less important to follow a specific piece of advice, and more important to learn to notice and question the deeper concepts behind them.

Like: Do I want to make a look that feels easy for others to read today? Or am I okay with a little friction — a little unexpectedness — in my outfit? Not in a “being different just to be different” way, but as a reminder that I get to decide what makes sense for me.

Whatever my answers are, I try to hold them lightly. Because they might change the next day, and that’s perfectly okay. :)

And, hey, before I go — keep an eye out for Friday’s post! I’ve got something exciting to share with you — I’ve been working on it behind the scenes for a long time now, and I can’t wait for it to be out in the world!

Great outfit! Contradictory advice on what we are supposed to wear and how we are supposed to style it might drive us mad… but only if we listen to it, I guess.
