Yesterday’s outfit felt purely familiar. Running shorts, tee, sneakers. Check, check, check — love it.
But today’s outfit! Today’s outfit feels both familiar and inventive. What a mix! You’ve got that walk-tall, shoulders-thrown-back feeling from being in your own territory *and* you also feel the thrill of doing something fresh and new.
Real quick, here’s what feels familiar to me: the neutral palette, a baseball cap, and the big shirt / little shorts combo (one of my most reliable and repeated outfit formulas).
And here’s what feels inventive: the ballet flats!
Ballet flats have been having a moment for a while, but I only just recently welcomed them into my rotation. They’re already helping me shake up my outfits and zig when I would usually zag.
See, I would’ve typically gone for flip flops and a canvas bag here, which would have been straightforward and completely fine.
But instead I went for real shoes. Which caused me to go for a real bag too. Which added a lot more contrast and interest to this simple look.
Love how the whole thing turned out.

These Madewell Greta ballerinas are comfy and soft, but they don’t have a ton of arch support. I suggest using inserts (I have these, love that they don’t crowd my toes). Or you could opt for a washable terry cotton insert to help reduce sweat in summer.
