Oh, look! It’s the “coffee shop” outfit from Friday’s post! In case you missed it, I shared how I spend less energy on my wardrobe by repeatedly riffing off of 6 outfit formulas I plan out ahead of time. It’s such a fun post with some great outfit ideas — check it out!
I work from a coffee shop most days, and my number one priority is comfortable pants that I can sit in for a long time. A few years ago, I had to get really honest with myself about what “comfortable pants” means to me. Because there are all kinds of recs out there for comfy pants — but what one person finds comfy doesn’t always work for another person. We all have different bodies, different preferences, and different definitions of what’s comfortable.
For me, “comfortable pants” means two things:
- NO pinching at my waist/stomach (so likely a mid to low rise)
- NO fabric bunching up in my hoo-ha (THE WORST)
These slouchy, soft Ref jeans are my faaaavorite. But! It’s taken me a little while to figure out how to style them in a way that makes me feel good, especially for winter.
I’ve learned that I feel good when I wear them with a *slightly* cropped sweater and a *slightly* cropped jacket. So when I recently found this beautiful faux fur cropped jacket at a vintage shop, and I was elated! Perfect jacket to go with my favorite jeans.
What about you? What does comfort mean to you when it comes to pants? I’d love to hear in the comments!

I feel like I have a rather odd shape and have struggled my entire adult life, (in my 40’s), to find comfortable AND flattering jeans. I don’t have a very defined waist and I find I need to size up for my waist but my hips and legs could benefit from a size down. To my surprise I’ve recently discovered the brands Wit & Wisdom and lesser expensive Kelsie Jeans that work really well on my more apple shape. Both brands have a bit of stretch in them, which I definitely appreciate, but the Kelsie’s have that non stretch vintage denim look to them! To me, they look higher end than what they truly are. I find high rise to be most comfortable but they cannot pinch at the waist. :D
I’m with you 100%. I’m so glad mid rise are back! I just CANNOT find high rise jeans that are comfortable – I also hate anything tight at the waist!
Amen! I hate fabric bunching up *right there”, and I also feel like it has to be bad for you in some way? These jeans are so cute and you look great!
I’m a rectangle and finally gave up on women’s jeans as my shape, while being a female, matches that more of a man. I have three pairs of men’s jeans now and love them all.
