(I’m out of town for a bit, so instead of our regular real-time outfits, enjoy a few older outfits I never got around to posting!)
Playful tension. These are two words that guide me when I put together a look.
You probably know my style leans heavily to the sporty side — but I don’t love to go 100% athleisure. I like a little stylistic contrast. So I love the way this crewneck sweater tones down the sporty vibe and lends a classic sensibility to this look.
Had I styled the look with, say, an oversized sweatshirt the whole look would have stayed squarely in the sporty lane — resulting in a fine, but maybe flat look. Which don’t get me wrong, I wear flat looks all the time. Sometimes I just don’t have it in me to put together an outfit full of contrast and tension.
But when I do have the creative energy, I live for the playful tension. Like in this fit: the no-nonsense simplicity of the charcoal sweater plays off the flouncy tennis skirt in way that totally delights me.

Love the outfit! I also do that: one day I mixed a sporty lavender top with a classic navy blue midi skirt that I own, and I coudn’t be happier with the result. It was different, creative, edgy… I don’t know, I felt like a new world of possibilities opened in front of me, because it was something I’ve never done before and I really enjoyed it!
