DAILY OUTFITS

I’m not *repeat not* throwing away all my valuable intel just because I saw some shiny things

04/01/24

Worn on: Friday, March 29th

As we come into a new season, we’re seeing all kinds of new ways to wear things and it’s easy to get swept away.

Let me stop making this sound all detached. I’M GETTING SWEPT AWAY YOU GUYS. It’s shiny new thing overload and it’s making me feel like I need to reinvent the wheel each time I get dressed and I’m out here like helpppp.

Don’t get me wrong — I absolutely love exploring new things. But I want to do it in a way where I stay rooted to my point of view. After all, I’ve spent years carefully observing what truly works for me — colors, styles, fits, etc. That is VALUABLE INTEL — something that can’t be bought with money. I don’t want to toss it out the window just because I saw some shiny things.

So it’s time to apply some of that intel and remind myself what works for me.

I know I always feel good in athletic shorts with an oversized top. There’s no uncomfortable waist-pinching, plus it plays up my legs which are my fave feature. And they may or may not be fashion, but nothing makes me feel more comfortable, confident, and “me” like athletic shorts.

Feels good to stick to what I know works for me.

P.S. A few other little details I love about this fit? The bright red with burgundy (color play!) and double anklets (summer camp vibes!).

I’m curious what the “shiny things” were that were drawing you away?

Caroline, I relate to this so much! Just last week, I had a moment when I went from thinking, “I am so happy with my wardrobe! It feels so dang good to just walk into my (tiny, narrow) closet and pick what I feel like wearing and know I will feel and look GREAT! Just for good measure, I will do a no-buy until June!” to thinking, “Maybe I *do* need a pair of white sneakers (which I have already purchased, not worn more than once or twice, then decluttered two times in the past few years! They look great on others but are not for me! *I know this!*) like literally within 30 seconds.
    …so, yeah: the no-buy is ON! 😂
Thanks to you, though, I also am getting better and better about asking myself what I like about that new, shiny outfit and then finding what I already have in my closet that gets me close enough to try it when I am feeling like experimenting…and wearing what I know I love the way I love to wear it the rest of the time. Works every time! Thank you! Rock on!

This is really important. The other day I put on an outfit formula I’ve worn for years and had not thrown on in a little while. Immediate boost. It’s fun to try new things and it’s ok to stick with what you know works!
