I may not have any international trips on the horizon, but the moment I slip into this dress I feel at ease, like I’m summering on the Amalfi Coast.
I can almost feel the sun-warmed stones under my bare feet as I walk down the path to a cushioned patio chair, book tucked under my arm, the sparkle of the ocean just visible in the distance.
That’s one of my favorite things about clothing — the way it can transport, the way it can create a feeling.
I often reflect on how I want my clothes to make me feel. Not just physically, but in more abstract ways.
Relaxed, agile, spontaneous, and shimmery — these words sum up how I want to feel in my clothes in the summertime. You’ll notice they aren’t fashion terms, and they may not even make sense to anyone else. But that’s perfectly okay.
And yes, I did say shimmery. :) Shimmery isn’t about wearing garments that are shiny or glittery — it’s about wearing clothes that give me that feeling of sipping a chilled Aperol Spritz in the warm afternoon sun.
This dress definitely gives me that feeling! The color is cheerful. The shoulder ties are charming. There’s an extra layer of lining at the bust, making it easy to go braless. The shape is relaxed with a subtle A-line — nothing tight, nothing clingy.
Even if I’m having a stressful or tough day, it’s nice to put on something that makes me feel *shimmery*.
When you think about the way you want to feel in your clothes, what words come to mind? Open your closet and pull out the pieces that make you feel that way. Are there a lot? Just a few? This info can be so helpful in your wardrobe building process. I’d love to hear your thoughts — share away in the comments.
