I thoroughly enjoy getting a second shot at trends I might have worn in my school years. It’s fun to put my current, minimalist spin on these beloved style moments from the past.
Middle-school-me LOVED parachute pants. The moment I saw Christina Aguilera’s Genie In a Bottle music video, I was set on getting a pair of orange parachute pants.
Alas, I never got a pair — but even if I had, middle-school-me would have been too self-conscious to wear them anyway.
But current-day-me has gained a healthy confidence with age, and is down to lean into my enthusiasm, whatever form it takes.
For now, I’m pairing my parachute pants with a simple tee and flip flops in a neutral palette — it’s a minimalist look that’s super comfortable, wearable for everyday, and right in line with my style.
I’m also interested in finding a pretty-yet-pared-back camisole to wear with them too. And on chillier spring evenings, pairing them with sneakers and a big sweater sounds nice.
