In March, I made the unfortunate discovery that my black flip flops were on their last leg.
Now, these aren’t just any ol’ flip flops. These are my beloved, go-to, wear-with-everything, key-to-my-style, can’t-live-without-them flip flops.
And they are discontinued. *face-palm*
So, I began a diligent search for a replacement that met my (highly particular) standards.
It took a few months, but I’m thrilled to report I’ve found the perfect replacements: The Roxy Gabbie flip flops.
Here’s what I love about the Gabbie sandals in particular:
- Minimalist design + clean lines + no logos
- Made of vegan leather
- Cushioned sole + even a bit of arch support!
- Comfortable right out of the box
- Reasonably priced at $36!
I was pleasantly surprised with the arch support on the Gabbies, but if you’re looking for a flip flop with even more support and cushioning, check out the Ancient Greek Sandals Saionara Sandals. They are quite a bit more pricey, but might be worth it if you’re looking for extra support.

ok Caroline, genuine question: do you automatically consider an item “vegan leather” when the material makeup list says something like PU, PU blend, or in this case “synthetic?” because as a woman raised in the 90s, these are all code for PLEATHER imo (iykyk). there seems to be no real classification for what’s considered “vegan leather” which makes it feel more like a marketing buzzword.
i know when i see something is made of genuine leather that it will be up to a certain quality standard, but not all genuine leather alternatives are created equal. it makes it harder to discern and anticipate how long an item will last and how many wears i’ll get before it starts to degrade.

I remember the days of pleather, too! :) Here’s my take: I’ve noticed that synthetic leather has come a long way in the past 30+ years, and it’s a better product than it was when pleather was the prevailing term. The technology has advanced and the finishings are better than they were in the 90s. So, while I’m certain marketing buzz played a part in shifting “pleather” to “vegan leather”, I also think there’s a difference in quality now. I’m with you on wishing there was a better system in place to give people a better idea of longevity. That would be so helpful!
