Hey there! How was your weekend?
Aaron went out of town for a couple of days, so I did the normal thing and binge watched Netflix.
First up — Gilmore Girls. I’ve been rewatching them so I’m all caught up for the new season that premiers in ELEVEN DAYS. Can’t wait, can’t wait, CAN’T WAIT.
Then, you guys. Then I discovered Fixer Upper.
I know, I’m late to the party. Friends have been telling me to watch it forever. But this weekend I finally did!
Here’s what I discovered:
Fixer Upper + wine + the husband out of town = the house will be rearranged.
After a few episodes, I got all Joanna Gains on our house.
I rearranged everything. All the rugs have been moved. All the plants have new homes. All the lamps are now in different places. Even the art has been switched around.
But the biggest change? Our bedroom looks totally different now.
Actually, it looks kind of like this outfit now — dark grey, white, and warm tan.
Before, our room was all grey and white.
It was nice, but a little … cold.
But after a few episodes of Fixer Upper, I decided the room needed a little warmth — kind of like how I’ve decided my wardrobe needs a little warmth too.
So I added in some light tan.
The grey + tan rug that was in our dining room? It’s in our bedroom now.
And our light tan antique dresser? Also now in the bedroom. Don’t ask me how I moved it all by myself — I have no idea other than the fact that when I want to rearrange the house nothing can stop me. :)
Anyway, all that to say, I went full on nesting mode this weekend. And it was great. Thanks for the inspo, Chip and Joanna.
So how about you? Are you into Fixer Upper? Does it inspire you to rearrange your house every time?

Love Fixer Upper!! Love their relationship! You can catch up on the seasons on the website. The new season starts on Nov. 29th. I can’t wait!!
It a great show. Its amazing how they renovate the old homes they are very gifted people
Firstly. Gilmore Girls! I couldn’t be more excited!! Already planning the themed girls day! I have not watched fixer upper but I will get on that tonight! I need a little house inspiration.
Also love the scarf!!! :) I have been keeping an eye on one made by hand on the Isle of Skye in Scotland (I live in Scotland) they weave the fabric themselves and the wool is local too! So much lust ❤️
scarf sounds so beautiful! Is there a website for the company that makes it? i love scottish cashmere (and skye) :)
Stef, that scarf does sound like a dream! :)
I love Fixer Upper! She is definitely inspiring with the home decor. Wait until you watch all two seasons on Netflix. She loooooves French Doors and Farm Sinks, oh and Shiplap! :) She also has a great sense of laid back casual style!
This is kind of old, but you can see she is practical with her wardrobe: https://magnoliamarket.com/fall-fashion-tips/
They have the cutest relationship. It really makes me want to move to Texas and work for her! Hey, you can go visit her in Waco since you are down there in Texas! Make it a weekend trip and document it! I’d love to see that! :)
Gina, oh my gosh — imagine how fun!! :)
Oh my goodness yes! Joanna and Chip are simply the best and I am always inspired by what she does! Any time I watch I want to go antiquing/declutter/rearrange!.
Bonnie, yes! It’s the Fixer Upper effect! :)
Lovely outfit, I particularly love the oversized scarf and then I saw it was free people! I haven’t discovered Fixer Upper yet, sounds dangerous… We have recently changed round our sitting room, as we had new carpet. I think it does you good to change things round, gives you a flexibility of mind.
Tanya, that’s true. It’s really refreshing! :)
I love Fixer Upper! And Joanna always has the best personal style, I’m constantly checking out her outfits on the show!
Always enjoy your thoughts and pics. Glad you discovered Fixer Upper. A great show.
Mary, I’m so glad I did too! :)
Haha! That sounds like my sister. When she decides to rearrange, she’ll flip the whole house in one afternoon :)
Isn’t is so awesome to be able to do that?! Refresh spaces, not for the sake of being new, but because of feedback you’ve gathered and knew knowledge you have on how to address that feedback — all while not having to buy anything because you’ve carefully added pieces you love into your home + life. GAH!
I’ve recently added FOUR new plants to our home because I realized that even though I’m a bit of a black thumb, plants in rooms just kind of *make* the room for me. And they make me stupidly happy. So I’ve rolled up my sleeves and set to work on the whole black thumb things. ;) As always, love reading your blog. :)
Thanks Laura! Don’t tell, but I even have some fake plants around the house just to complete the look of the room — without the risk of death. Haha!
How cool your home looks so different now :) Like the casual look!

Ha! This post made me smile. Thanks for the Monday pick-me-up!
I have also been binge watching Gilmore Girls. I can hardly contain myself. I can’t wait to see if Paris and Doyle had kids yet…. LOL
Also love Joanna. It’s a good thing I don’t live in Texas, otherwise I’m sure I would have mildly stalked them by now :)
Caralee, OMG it’s gonna be so great!! :)
Hi Caroline,
this is my first comment ever on your blog but I have been following you for weeks now. You have no idea how much this blog is an inspiration for me. My closet is slowly transforming into a copy of yours lol that’s creepy but true :) Just wanted to thank you for your work and ask you if you will make an update of your capsule wardrobe for winter?
Fixer upper here I come!
Hey Lola! That is so sweet! I’m glad you’re following along. I don’t know that I’ll be doing a total breakdown of my winter capsule, but I will definitely share my goals and challenges with you all along the way! :)

I ADORE Joanna and Chip Gaines! I just read their book “The Magnolia Story” this weekend and had a whole new appreciation for them when watching an episode last night, now knowing their back story. They just seem like THE loveliest people – and of course, super talented as well. I’m happy to pass the book along to you if you like, I always like to give books forward after reading them…

Hey Caroline! I just wanted to put in a request. If you’re into it, I’d love to know of any good Black Friday or cyber Monday deals from ethical brands you know of. I’m limiting the amount of items I purchase and saving up to spend on more ethically made clothing, but since it can be a little more pricy any bargains would be great to know of! Thanks!
This would be an interesting blog. I love Everlane but would be shocked if they had a post-Thanksgiving sale. It seems they try to “just” start with a reasonable price.
They had one of sorts yesterday. I think* it was a donation – pay what you want and proceeds went to charity. Great concept – and even if you don’t take the discounts, you feel good about the donation.
Nichole, you might want to check Nordstrom for Made in the USA items. They will likely have deals since they are so mainstream. As for the lesser known brands, I will have to keep my eyes peeled and let you know if I find any extraordinary deals! :)
Caroline, I don’t know how you’ve lasted this long without Chip & Joanna! I’m absolutely in love with Fixer Upper and get the same itch to redecorate every time it’s on! Continually loving your posts. :)
xo,
Madeline

O that long cozy scarf!!
Will have to watch now :). I LOVE rearranging. I’m trying to talk my boss into rearranging our store AGAIN! I’m also converting my spare bedroom into an office/studio for my jewelry and it sounds like I need your motivation!
Love Fixer Upper! I really started to appreciate Joanna’s talent whenever she did a mid-century modern home (no shiplap involved, lol). She really knocked it out of the park even when it wasn’t in her comfort zone. Isn’t it cool that you were able to approach your home like your wardrobe – using what you already have to make things exciting and fresh? I bet it looks awesome! :)
Taryn, it really is exciting to keep it fresh with items I already own. The best feeling! :)
Now we need house pics! Sounds beautiful!
They’re on Netflix? Haven’t seen even one episode but we ditched Cable sometime back and I’m technology impaired and there’s too many remotes and dealing with the computer to watch anything on the TV unless the hub’s is home to turn it on, dial it in, call it up and put in passwords and…….sigh, I’m pretty sure I’m not even using the correct terminology.
Anyway! I’ve done the flip the whole house upside down, shake it all up and rearrange it all in a weekend thing for decades. The hub’s says that, in our house, you should always glance behind yourself before sitting down to make sure that the chair that was there ten minutes ago is still actually there, lol! For me, if everything stays in the exact same place and same configuration for too long, my eyes cease to actually SEE anything. Move things around a bit and…..boom! Suddenly I SEE everything again! Does that make sense? I shouldn’t try to make sense on three hours of sleep .
Kim, haha your comment cracked me up. :D
I haven’t yet watched Fixer Upper but I’ve always been a serial rearranger! In middle school, my sister and I were grounded for switching bedrooms. My college roommate always joked about me rearranging my corner of the room, and every time my boyfriend goes out of town he jokes about what will be different when he returns. It’s the cheapest way to make your home feel fresh – I guess its a lot like playing with your wardrobe!
Stacy, it really is, isn’t it! :)
Amazing, I caught your “flip the house” vibes only yesterday, and mapped out a plan for my MONDAY project! Aaaaand I have a long tan cashmere scarf — thanks for that inspiration. Shouldn’t be surprised how a warm tan on grey/white stripes soothes the look. It’s all the colour I need to take me into winter. If it ever comes. Canada has been crazy warm this Fall. For us! So for once, we too struggle with the “let’s get on with it” dilemma of what to wear, our prompt for preparation and planning for Christmas. So miss crispy frosty mornings and a skiff of snow!!
Also, the Gaines’ new book is fantastic: http://www.thomasnelson.com/the-magnolia-story
I love Fixer Upper! My dream is to eventually restore a 1920s house, so I like to live vicariously through the show. ;) Also I love Joanna’s style– both in decor and clothes!
This looks like the perfect fall outfit. I’m loving cozy scarves like yours right now!

Isn’t the rule that without pictures it didn’t happen?! Lol.
Consuela, haha! You might find a few on Instagram ;)
I love fixer upper! So glad to see you’re into it too. Really love her style (and yours too), would you do a post on your newly arranged home?
I also would love to see home (and dog) pics included on your blog!
Caroline and Bonnie, stay tuned on Instagram for a few sneak peeks ;)
Sounds like the perfect weekend! I can’t wait for the new season of Fixer Upper, they are an incredibly inspiring couple because of their talent and hard work.
Just be careful moving those plants, especially if introducing drastic changes in light availability – they may need time to adjust, so be prepared for some loss of foliage…
Noted! Thanks Oksana :)
I love fixer upper and its one of my favorite shows! It has made me want to move to TX but i’m so use to CA weather that i dnt know if I cld take the heat. Also looking forward to Gilmore Girls!
Omg! I have been watching that show all last week and I am about to finish the last season on Netflix :'( so sad! Love that shows and their family!
Love,

YES! Someone who understands! I love rearranging and I probably do it once every 6 months. Now I own my own place, I view it like a dolls house, but an adult size version, and who didn’t love rearranging a dolls house when they were little :)
CIndy, what a great way to think about it! So cute :)
I’m currently watching Gilmore Girls for the first time, I’m on season 4 so I hope I don’t see too many spoilers before the reunion.
Abigail Alice x
You better get crackin’ Abigail! ;) Hope you enjoy it!
My boyfriend introduced me to Fixer Upper and I instantly got hooked! I love Joanna’s style and would love to pay a visit to the Silos one day! I live in scarves all winter long. It’s been hot in So Cal, but I can’t wait until it gets cooler here!

It is truly amazing the feats in furniture moving one can pull off when highly motivated.
This post = all the heart eyes. Love the outfit, the home colors, and your Netflix selections. Warm welcome to the Chip & Jo train! And Gilmore Girls canNOT come soon enough! What are you most excited to see in the new series??
Ooooh Anna, I have to say I’m excited to see if Rory ends up with any of the original guys! #teamlogan :)
Joanna Gaines has inspired me to decorate my home in a way that I love, with things that make me happy and tell our story. Not just put something there because it was on sale and it’s a blank space then you don’t love it and take it to goodwill 6 months later. She was the house inspiration version of you for me, if that makes sense. You’ve inspired my wardrobe choices, she’s inspired my house choices. lol Love youre blog.
Kathleen, oh man that’s way nice of you to say! I’m in good company with Miss Gaines!! ;)
Hello, a comment on the sweater from Nordstrom Rack–I have the same one, but it got all pill-y and doesn’t look so hot after 2 years. Did yours do the same? I love the shape and the price was great ($18)–but now I am realizing why quality is expensive.
Hey Pat, the sweater has pilled a little bit, but I just use my defuzz/depill comb (http://bit.ly/2fXqrnu) and it seems good as new! :)
I love Fixer Upper so much that my bff got me a “#Demo Day” t-shirt to show off my love :) Wish I had my own home to decorate
Kristin, that is too cute :)
Im into rearranging our house too.. super therapeutic <3
i love home decor and will have to check out that show! :) please share your ‘new’ home! ox
I was completely obsessed with house rehab shows until I became a homeowner. I am now sad they never explain the reality of the time it takes, the issues they encounter, how the family lives in it afterward, or how everything is funded. I know, that would totally take the magic away, but it would be unfortunate for someone to start a home project thinking it will turn out as easy as it does in the show.
Amelia, I can understand that! We did a lot of work on our home as well, and it can really be challenging!
I love Gilmore Girls and Fixer Upper! Definitely 2 of my favorite shows :)

I laughed reading this post because I can seriously relate! I started watching Fixer Upper less than a month ago and I am already almost all the way through season 3. I watched the first 2 on Netflix, and then became so crazy for it that I purchased the 3rd on Amazon. And I may have also rearranged our house when my husband was out of town on business, haha! Joanna’s decorating and wardrobe style are pretty close to my own (at least what I would like it to be, minus the eyeliner), so I fell hard and fast for Fixer Upper.
House photos, house photos, house photos! :)
I’m so inspired by your decor and “capsule home”.
