Happy Monday! How was your weekend?
We spent the weekend playing Putt-Putt golf, potting plants in our backyard, watching baseball (woohoo — it’s back!), and enjoying the thunderstorms that rolled through.
Happy sigh. Welcome spring. :)
I wore this particular outfit on our Putt-Putt date. It was the first time I’d worn these shorts, and I love ’em! Not too short, not too long, high rise, but still stretchy and comfortable — checks on checks on checks.
Anyway, while half of the weekend was beautiful, we had thunderstorms and chilly temperatures sweep in Saturday and Sunday. Spring swings, anyone?
But we made the best of it and I spent the last half of the weekend bundled up in sweatshirts, leggings, and my Mahabis house shoes. No complaints here. :)
So tell me, are you going through spring swings right now too? Do you thrive on the variation or are you just ready for it to level out?
And hey, fun things are on the horizon! On Thursday, I’ll show you the blush tee that I added to my capsule. Remember how I was holding out for the right one? Safe to say, I found it. :)
And mark your calendars for this Friday, April 7th — my blogging bestie Lee of Style Bee and I are kicking off our Spring 10×10 remix! We’ll be sharing our 10 pieces on Friday and posting the first outfit next Monday. Want to join? Need a quick start guide? Here you go!

I loved the Texas thunderstorms when I was kid.
Here in the great state of Montana it will be snowing this morning, but don’t worry, by Wednesday it will be 70 again. Not that we can actually trust the forecast, because I swear they change it every 10 min ?
Haha! Ain’t that the truth, Caralee! :)
Hey, don’t hate on meteorologists. ;)
I really like those shoes!!

Thanks Kirsten! They took awhile to break in, but I’m loving them too. :)
Yay! So looking forward to the next 10×10! Can’t believe it’s already warm enough in TX for tank top and shorts! (at least part of the time.) It’s still sweater and boots weather here, although it’s starting to warm up some.
I’ve been using your cognac + cognac trick with my vintage Coach purse and it really works amazingly well to pull an outfit together!

Hey Karen, sounds cute! And I’m excited for the 10×10 too! :)
“Home Weekends” are so nice! There is really no place like home. I love the Mahabis shoes too. In FL I have to turn up the air to enjoy them but none the less they are part of our decor!- Laurel Bledsoe
Those shorts are perfect!! I feel like flattering shorts are the absolute hardest to find.. It was easier for me to find a wedding dress that fit perfectly without alterations than to find a pair of shorts I liked for my honeymoon lol! If you have any shorts buying tips (especially for online shopping), that would be a super helpful post!
Have a great week Caroline!
Oh my gosh, yes! Shorts shopping is the worst!
Agreed, Laura!! I’m a 42 yr old mom with long legs and still like to wear shorts that are not too short but not Bermudas. So hard to find!
I did just get a pair of shorts from Madewell that I know I’ll wear this summer. But I’d love to hear where people get their shorts. I’d really like to see a review on the silk shorts from Grana.
I just wish Spring would arrive so we could have some swings. We’re currently experiencing what could best be described as Sprinter. The calendar says it’s spring, but the snow and sleet and cold temps we’re getting tell me it’s still winter. I just keep staring longingly at my spring outfits hoping I can wear them someday soon! Ah, the joys of living on the Atlantic ocean…
The “never-ending Season” is a bit like how our Dallas area Fall & Winter were/are! I kept waiting to wear sweaters and my “real” winter wardrobe, but it never happened. The temp only dropped to freezing one time, I believe. And now it has already reached the high 80s (and above!) and it was March!
Scary thought: we could be wearing only a “year-round wardrobe” ~ with clothing selections for a range of 50 to 90+ degrees! (JK! … That’s a nightmare!)
Love this outfit! Putt-putt sounds so fun! I haven’t done it in ages. I’m ready for the weather to level out, we’ve been having a good mix of warm and cold days here.

After 3 consecutive weekends away, and with more travel on the very near horizon, this weekend spent at home with no alarms and no agendas was AMAZING.
I’m really trying to not see these late cold snaps as setbacks and enjoy a few more days of cozy socks and hot tea, but the lack of sunshine in South Central KY right now is draining. I’ll happily take the cooler temps, but give me blue skies and sunshine please!
Sounds like a dream weekend, Anna! :)
This looks completely fun and comfortable <3 cute!
That weather sounds like a Seattle spring too! One minute it can be beautiful and warm, then ten minutes later the temperature will have dropped like crazy and its pouring. In spring they say “if you don’t like the weather, just wait ten minutes!”. It gets a little exhausting…
I love this outfit, this is basically my summer uniform, and I can’t wait to be able to wear something similar (in like four months, when it finally starts getting nice)!

Our swings in LA are super mild — basically one day is hot enough to swim and the next day is not. But I can’t complain. Because of all the rain we had, we’re now experiencing a beautiful blooming season for the first time in awhile, and I’m just smitten!
I’ve been debating about purchasing a pair of mahabis for months. Tell me what you love about them! I’m allergic to wool and considering the summer version, but I haven’t seen any real reviews of either online.
Hey Sadie! I have a pair of the summer Mahabis and I totally love them — that removable sole is GOLD in my book since I’m always running in and out of the house. Functionally, they are holding up beautifully. But they are starting to look a little worn. I think that’s because I got the lighter color with a white sole, and the white sole has yellowed. I think they would age better in a darker color, so I would recommend getting a darker color and sole. I’m usually a 7 or a 7.5 in shoes and boots. I got a 38 and they fit great. :)
Thank you! I’ve been leaning to the gray/black combo.
You’ve become a voice in the back of my head when I’m tempted to shop for things, and my focus has definitely shifted to quality and responsibly made.
Loving your outdoor posts and your style girl! So casual and relaxed, and those shorts sound PERFECT. I’m sooo pumped for spring but really want it to just be warm all the time. I’m a Texas girl, and I need some of that heat I’m missing living in LA. ;)

Was in your sweet town over the weekend while travelling to the hill country and experienced that weather change! But we get that in Amarillo, too! Enjoy your posts!
loving your new shorts! :)

Hi Caroline, I have a question about the 10×10 challenge: when you say ‘two weeks’, do you mean two times Monday-Friday, or 10 days in a row? Thanks for letting me know! I’m going to try my first 10×10 challenge and it really feels challenging!
Hey Renee! For the sake of the blog, we usually post over 2 weeks, Monday-Friday. But there is no wrong way to do it. Plenty of participants do 10 days in a row, and you’ll get tons of inspiration from Instagram if following along there! :)
I have those sandals from Madewell and they tore up my heels last summer. I’m curious if you had the same problem and how you fixed it if you did. I love how they look, but not worth it if my feet are destroyed after wearing.
Hey Adrienne! I feel your pain. I actually stuck a bit of moleskin padding back there to keep them more cushy on my heel. :)
Temps ranging from 30 to 60’s in one day today…freezing fog and blazing sun! I need an entire capsule in one day
Hi caroline
What a cute outfit! I love your posts and learn so much from them.
Do you think you could please do a post about your bags? Maybe a bag capsule? Xx
Sure, Niloopa! I’ll add it to my list of post ideas. :)
I just did a serious impulsive buy and bought myself a pair of the Madwell shorts. I’ve been looking for a good pair of black demin shorts for a long time so if these fit me as well as they fit you then they’ll be a happy edition to my closet! If not, well it’s not summer yet in NY so I have some time to return and keep hunting.
Hope they work for you Emily! But yeah, you have time. :)
Girl, you are so cute! Love this casual style! I can’t wait for the 10×10!
Same, Sarah. I’m excited for it too! :)
I love that top! I’m actually looking for something very similar, I’m looking for a tweed-like grey top…but I’m looking for something more retro, like a summer short sleeve sweater. Thicker than just a normal tank top but still made of cotton.
I’ve been looking all over, does anyone have any suggestions of where I should look? Maybe there’s a good store that sells retro style summer clothing, or maybe you know of exactly what I’m looking for? It would be so appreciated if you let me know!
Carolyn, is the “notify me of new posts by email” supposed to notify of new articles (blog posts), or notify of replies to my comment, comments in general or what? I’m confused.
Hey Miss Field! If you’re in the comments section, you’ll get notified of follow up responses by clicking that check box. You can also get notified of new posts by entering your email in the “subscribe” section. :)
That’s how it worked on your old blog, Caroline, but the new one only gives the option for notifications of new posts. I still get e-mails for comments on very old postings, but nothing for comments on new ones.
Good to know, Carol. I’ll take a look at it.
Carol is right. I do get emails of new posts but apparently not for comments.
And I can’t help but mention (since I work with websites), when people add a website to their comment it would be better if it opens in a new tab. That way your own blog is still open in the user’s browser and more likely to be revisited.
I have been on the hunt for the perfect vests for when the weather gets better! I love the crew neck look and those shorts look lovely on you! What a great weekend you seemed to have, I love spring and changes it brings!

BASEBALL IS BACK!!! Ahhh, it’s the official start of spring. or maybe summer. Kinda both! I love the out-and-about posts!! They seems so real. like, hey, I could do that! I could achieve that!! I think you look fantastic and not posed at all!! Whenever I pose in public I feel dorky, too! ;) Weather in lousiville’s been in the seventies (ha! my siblings went swimming yesterday!) and just beautiful!! I always feel so excited for the possibilities that spring brings!! Love love!!!
I just might need to look in to getting those shorts. Maybe they’ll go on sale for Easter….I’ve been on the hunt for a good pair of shorts for my spring/summer wardrobe (I don’t have a single pair at the moment). But I’ve been having such a hard time finding ones that aren’t “cheeky.” Not a big fan of the cheeky trend that’s going on right now with shorts. I hope it passes fast because finding good shorts nowadays is hard!
