Capsule #2 / Outfit 55
Just in case you weren’t super excited about yesterday’s outfit, here’s another take on the utility vest look. This is a go to look for me, and you’d probably spot me running errands in it. We’ve talked a lot about wearing chambray + jeans, but adding the vest definitely gives that classic combo a whole new vibe.
You’ll be happy to know that our weekend-long Unfancy shoot is going beautifully + you can keep up with our sneak peeks on Instagram + you can jam to our shoot playlist on Spotify. And I’m SO excited to reveal the new wardrobe on July 1st!

I am new to your blog, and I absolutely LOVE it. I don’t even remember now how I found it, but I’m SO glad that I did. I love the idea of making getting dressed every day simpler and shopping more intentionally, as that has actually been one of my goals this year, and I’m keeping track of all my purchases and sticking with a budget. I do have a question, though…since you take all your outfit photos for 2 entire months over the course of one weekend, how realistic is it that you actually WEAR all the outfits in everyday life? I’m just wondering if you ever put together an outfit, photograph it for the blog, but you actually wouldn’t wear it IRL b/c it’s not practical or just not you? Just curious!
Hi Kristeen!
That’s an awesome question. :) We’ve all seen fashion blogs that make for pretty pictures, but don’t really seem practical for real life. With Unfancy, I wanted to go against that grain and be relatable + real + helpful.
All the outfits are put through the “Would I really wear this?” test. I have to feel comfortable wearing an outfit out and about in my daily life for it to end up on the blog. Because once the photos are done, I actually have to wear them for 3 months — so they had better be my style! :)
Boyfriend jeans are the perfect example of this. Real boyfriend jeans just don’t work for my body type, but I was thinking about buying them just to take photos of them. Then I quickly realized that the whole point of this is to be free of clutter and have clothes I love + feel happy wearing. Buying something just to take photos for the blog quickly became one of my hard + fast no-no’s. More than that, I realized I probably wasn’t the only one who had trouble wearing boyfriend jeans. I had an opportunity to solve this problem for myself and people like me. So I got creative and faked my own version of them that I actually wear.
That being said, even dressing with a minimalist closet, there are outfits that definitely go unworn in the 3 month period. But that’s simply because I run out of time that season, or don’t end up going out as many times as I thought. Even still, the unworn outfits are true to my style + practical for my real life. Which I suppose shows that maybe I should try dressing with even less? :)
