Alright guys. Things are about to change around here. It starts next week!
An outfit post every. single. day!
I mentioned in my summer wrap up post that I missed the mix + match + repeat vibe that Unfancy used to have. Pre-hiatus, I was posting 20 outfits a month, and you got to see the same piece styled in new ways over and over again. Post-hiatus, I’ve been posting less than 8 outfits a month, and you barely get to see any pieces repeated.
But that’s about to change!
On Monday, I’m kicking off this change with a daily remix series that’ll last through the end of the month — I’ll take 10 of my favorite fall pieces and remix them in a different way each day to create 10 unique outfits.
Then, in October, I’ll start sharing 4-5 outfit posts a week.
I can’t wait to get back to the whole mix + match + repeat vibe of Unfancy and show you how to make new outfits out of the same pieces. Woohoo!
These outfit posts will be short — not a lot of text, but instead, focused on giving you a simple outfit idea for the day, and showing different ways to style the same piece again and again.
Here’s the thing though: These past few months, I’ve been writing such long text posts that I’ve started to believe longer post = better post. Now, deep down, I know this isn’t true. I know shorter posts can be just as valuable as longer posts. But, I need your input.
What would you like to see, text-wise, from these shorter, outfit idea posts? Additional styling tips? Fit notes on each piece? Notes on what I like / dislike about the designer? Personal, ramble-y thoughts on life that day?
What would make them valuable to you?

Fit notes would be super helpful! I’d also be interested in your unfiltered thoughts about what you like and don’t like about each piece/designer. :)
I think short posts are great with details on fit/how you feel in the outfit, how it wears, etc. I am relatively new to capsule dressing, I really love it, but am not great about styling so I need all the inspiration I can get! On a side note, I’d also love to know your process for choosing investment pieces. I have an expensive wish list (when it’s all said and done) and sometimes I don’t know how to prioritize.
I agree with Tiffany!
So excited! I love seeing your outfit ideas and different ways to mix and match the same pieces. I’d love to learn more styling tips from you as well!

Hmm, I think the length of a post doesn’t have to be a big deal because if it is too long, you can just skim or skip over it. I personally really like fit tips, how something washes well (or not well) and holds up throughout the day ex. do the pair of jeans really stretch out or hold their shape? Iv’e been trying to make smarter choices with how/where to spend my money on clothing – something I think you are really good at! I hate spending more than I usually would on an item and it doesn’t hold up or keep its shape :)
I completely agree! For several years I’ve been trying to stick to the mantra of fewer, better things. However I often find I get in shopping paralysis because I’m obsessed with picking something “perfect”. If I’m going to buy an investment piece, I really want it to fit my practical needs, fit my lifestyle and personality, be fairly timeless, and hold up well. I hate when my one purchase of the season gets a hole in it or loses its shape after one wash. I find I obsess too much, purchase & return, and then sometimes don’t end up getting anything. I’d love to hear the ups & downs of making decisions about what you buy.
Oh yay, can’t wait to see your re-mixes again, Caroline! I’ve missed them!! As for text? I’m all about tips and daily rambles!! ;)

I am so excited for more outfit posts! I personally love your ramble-y thoughts on life. Your words and encouragement about minimalism, less-is-more, and remixing what you have are always what I find most inspiring.
Sometimes I find that text related to a new designer, new items, and even ethical shopping insight gives me the shopping itch, which I’m trying to avoid! That’s why I love your blog so much – I already have most of the “basics” you incorporate into your daily outfits, and you help me stay the course by not feeding into trendy shopping.
Also, words related to your outfit’s purpose could be fun and helpful! An outfit for a date night versus work versus around the house. More along the lines of: what have you been up to? How does this outfit suit that purpose? I can’t wait to follow along!
Julia said everything I was going to comment! So I second this! lol.
Yes, ditto Julia’s comment! Can’t wait. I am a youngish mum of three and sometimes i don’t have time to think about what to wear (and definitely not to shop) so I appreciate inspiration on how to dress well for everyday life and how to make things i already have feel fresh. Thank you!
Same here!! Excited for the daily posts, good for you!
Completely agree with Julia as well! I love your posts on re-mixing clothes as well as minimalism. I finally have a closet of basics that fit me well so inspiration on how to keep them fresh is always wonderful! Posts like these as well as tips and ramble-y thoughts help me focus on what matters most in life, instead of tempting me to consume more.
Ditto! Excited for simple remix posts but also all about outfits with purpose and daily rambles.
YASSSSSS!
Re: “Additional styling tips? Fit notes on each piece? Notes on what I like / dislike about the designer? Personal, ramble-y thoughts on life that day?”
^^^ ALL OF THE ABOVE!
This couldn’t come at a better time! I am starting to dip my toes into the capsule experiment. I am a visual person so seeing all the ways you’ll style your pieces will be so helpful and inspiring! Thanks, Caroline!
This sounds great! I started following you a few months ago and inspired by you I decided to completely clean out my closet of all the clutter. I had so much stuff that didn’t fit me well or didn’t fit my real life style that finding something to wear everyday was a struggle. I also had a lot of trendy, fast fashion pieces that I just didn’t love. They were of poor quality and just made me feel poorly dressed. The idea now is to shop counsiously for higher quality, better fit outfits, even if I have to buy less because I inevitably had to pay more for each piece.
Seeing how your style the same thing over and over will be of great help in my new endeavor.
The only thing is that I am only 5’1, with a long torso and short legs, so a lot of what you wear doesn’t look good on me. So if you could sometimes mentioned the alternative option for shorter girls that would be great. Thanks. Looking forward to the next posts!!
The shorter girls would love that!
second (or thirds?) this whole comment!!!yes!
Fyi: i’m pretty sure Carilone mentioned in an earlier post that she is only 5’5″. And while I realize that this is much different than your petite 5’1″ she isnt actually the 5’10 that she looks.
This blew me away when I found out because I had always thought I couldnt pull off Caroline’s looks at 5’4′.
I’d love to rear your thought process and decision details… why these earrings not those? How’d you roll the cuff that way? What contrast or other elements did you incorporate? When you almost had a perfect outfit but not quite what did you add or subtract? For me I need something structured, something shiny, something overly feminine and something masculine to make it feel like the perfect outfit.
Yes!
Caroline, I love your blog. It has been such a great addition to my morning routine. I am really excited to see more style posts. Here are some of the types of things I would get the most out of:
Tailoring before and afters
Style risks
How things look vs. how things feel
Guest style posts from people with different body types
Thank you!
Oh! I also second the guest post with different body types as well as different life styles/stages. A while ago, you had a guest who was a mom(like me) and she totally convinced me that a capsule constructed closet was worth it. But you and I have more similar tastes so I look st your clothes but think for me, “mom lyfe” lol
Hey Amelia! Thanks for the input. I do have a guest blogger series here! http://www.un-fancy.com/category/guest-bloggers/ Hope you’ll check them out! :) xo, Caroline
I’d love to hear more about how each outfit services your life, and why you chose to wear it that day. Was it a little colder that day, warranting a cozy sweater? Did the shirt feel like it was just calling your name? Was there an event or meeting you had to dress for? Was it just a compilation of things you hadn’t worn in a while?
As I’m sure you hear all the time, I *love* your blog and it has completely changed my life (and my wardrobe)! Thank you so much for doing what you do, and being an inspiration.
I have loved your longer posts! And while I love and look forward to your daily outfit posts, I would also love your personal, rambly thoughts about life and your minimalist lifestyle. While our styles are very different, I find your life philosophy so inspiring and always look forward to your little nuggets of wisdom. :)
I would love to see you out and about in some of your outfits, showing us how they’re functional and used with your lifestyle.
Looking forward!
I too would love to see you out and about in your outfits. I so appreciate your clear, concise style and saying things straight after clearly thinking things through.
Hi Caroline,
I’m a huge fan of your blog! Can’t wait to see the remix-ed outfits. I always enjoy reading about your behind the scenes thought process on how you came to a decision. I find that really valuable. And out of the ones you suggested I would say:
— Notes on what I like / dislike about the designer + fit
—Personal, ramble-y thoughts on life that day.
yay! =) I just like seeing different outfits, whatever you write is just a bonus
Totally woohoo! Can’t wait to have your outfit posts back!
I, personally, think a good mix of the ideas you mentioned would be perfect. Just what you thought about the outfit, like “Oh wow, I had to size up here!” or “See, when I tuck it this way, it looks totally different.” or “I just got the nicest compliment on this outfit from an old lady.” or “I can’t believe I used to wear skinny jeans all the time – every time I think I found my stlye it changes all over again – how fascinating!”
I think it matters on the pieces/outfits you wear. And if you tried any new hairstyles apart from the frensh twist I would love to see them as well.
Best, Aylin <3
This sounds great! Additional styling tips and what you do/don’t like about an outfit or item would be useful. A bit like your roundup for the capsule: what is or isn’t working for me.
I did something similar in January and took outfit photos on my phone to show myself how much variety I had without buying new pieces. Really looking forward to it!
I’m excited about this! I’m happy with however much or little you want to write on a given day, but do very much appreciate fit notes. Thank you!
How fun! I am very excited.
I don’t necessarily need an inspirational quote every day, but I would love the “personal, ramble-y thoughts on life that day” in addition to maybe WHY you chose that outfit!
Well… I love outfit posts. I think you could give us some extra tips or details that would change the outfit, for example day/night (you did it in the past, it was awesome!), casual/work etc…
But… I really enjoy your longer posts… you won’t stop them, right?
Can’t wait!!!
I kind of love rambly thoughts. ;) Keep it up!
OMG!! You wouldn’t believe how happy you’ve just made me!! I simply LOVED outfit posts. As you say, they were truly the heart of Unfancy. So grateful for a come-back.
As for text, I would be happy to see any of the things you’ve listed, but personally I’d prefer styling tips and rambles ;)
I’ve been loving the long-form posts, but seeing more of your new pieces will be fun too! I think these outfit posts could be a chance to spotlight some of the new sustainable brands you’re finding. Tell us about their mission and why that appeals to you. Include more of their beautiful pieces so we get an idea of the aesthetic.
I’d also love to see more lifestyle content with these posts. What meal did you cook or book did you read while wearing this outfit? Just please, don’t ramble on about the weather like every other fashion blogger :)
I get a lot of ideas from your posts, as a busy working mom…I don’t have time to shop around and go on websites or even go to the mall to shop for myself. Your blog is great and whenever I like your outfits, I follow the link you provide and I shop around…done and done.
Mentioning how the clothes fit would be great, so I can adjust it to my petite frame based on your sizing input.
Woohoo — more outfit posts!!!
I think a mix of short and long text would be nice! You always have something very valuable to say so I’d love to hear it! But sometimes short and sweet is nice too. :)
Just share whatever’s on your heart that day, Caroline — I love that the best. That way it sounds super natural and not forced because I don’t think you should ever force yourself to say anything out of obligation. :)
WAHOOOOO!!!!!!! Your outfit posts were literally my favorite part of any blog in the world so I’m thrilled they’re coming back. The outfits are really the best part so I say write whatever you feel like in those posts because seeing your different mix and matching ideas really inspired my clothing choices.
I like short posts. But I am a skimmer (at best) so every post is a short post for me! Any topic is fine I particularly liked when you used to give examples of where you would wear that type of outfit.
Hi Caroline,
A mix of all your ideas would be welcome on your short outfit posts, but if that proves to be too much on a day to day basis, perhaps sticking to a ‘highlight reel.’ Like each day, mentioning a few quick bits about the styling, goals for the outfit, or anything you’d think would be relevant or of particular importance that would help make the post feel a bit shorter and thus easier on your end. Then maybe a recap post at the end of the week, and those recaps could include overall thoughts, lessons learned (how things wash/styling mistakes and victories), rambles, new goals for the upcoming week, etc. I personally love your short and long posts alike (the meatier the better!), so I’m eager to see what adjustments you choose to include on posts from now on!
For the outfit posts…I’d love to see something that changes organically with the ebb and flow of your daily life. Because let’s face it, no matter how structured we try to make life, each day has different responsibilities and energy levels. I’d love to see you reflect that in your posts and feeling comfortable with not following a specific set of rules about your posts. Like, some days you could just post a photo or two without needing to explain why there’s not more, others you could share playlists/books/whatever is making you happy that day along with your photos, some days you could write wordier posts, some days you could post specific outfit details and musings (you’re not going to be able to post about fit and such every day if you’re mix-and-matching the same clothes over and over)…
Hi Caroline!
I think I’d like most to hear what you like/dislike about the outfit, and where the outfit inspiration came from.
Thanks!
Love anything and everything you post! But I would love to see little styling tips with each outfit, sometimes it’s nice to know the though process behind why you paired things together or accessorized how you did. I would love to see more of that incorporated in these new outfit posts. Would also love to hear about what attracts you initially to the garments you end up choosing, I love how everything you buy is so thought out and it seems like you have mastered picking things that are both your style and made for your body.
Yay! Can’t wait for more outfit posts. I would love to read your styling tips. I feel like I can put clothes together, but can’t style them. Also, love the personal ramblings.
I like when you talk about the practical considerations of a piece, like if it pills, if it runs on the large side, etc. You had white snake skin pointedvflats from Madewell in a prior capsule, and I loved the look. I bought them as an investment and could never break them in. After blisters and bandages, I finally gave up and sold them on eBay. Of course, shoes fit people differently but I always wondered if they are comfortable for you, or did you only wear them for short distances? What selections do you regret and why? I like to hear about comfort.
BTW, I hand wash my bras now based on your awesome post about caring for your undergarments and keeping it simple.
This all sounds wonderful Caroline. And, I agree with Karen! Whatever you write is great, but if there is some useful, practical bits about comfort, long-term wearability, holding up in the wash, fading, pilling, tailoring to bring new life to an old or thrifted garment etc…and otherwise inspiring me to keep the life in old clothes via new styling…I’d love that. Likewise as with Karen, I bought the cognac J.Crew flat sandals you had in an old capsule, and I haven’t worn them at all. They are super cute, but not for my feet (I tried adding soft stick-on insoles but then the instep was too tight).
…And, getting off topic here but as a mom who is constantly mending the knees of every pair of jeans my boys touch (I’m determined to make them last three kids), I cannot help but wonder how those holes in your boyfriend jeans are holding up! I love your jeans – in fact I think this is my favorite of all your looks, ever – but I ended up opting for a pair that had patches sewn in behind the holes, as I’ll wear my own holes in my knees just trying to keep up with them! :)
Yay! I can’t wait to see how you remix outfits! :) I’d enjoy any of the text you mentioned (I’m still just so happy you’re back! ;)), but I’d especially enjoy styling tips and what sorts of places/events where you’d go with that outfit.
P.S. Is there anywhere I can go to see quick photos of all your past outfits in one place? Sometimes when I’m wondering what to wear, it would be fun to revisit your old photos for a hit of inspiration :)
Hi Kate, I don’t know if you’re on Pinterest, but you can see my Un-fancy board here: https://www.pinterest.com/caroline_joy/style-unfancy/ :) xo, Caroline
would love to see fit notes and sizes plus sources (or similar pieces)
Hi! I THINK FIT NOTES WOULD BE A GREAT ADDITION, AND ALSO HOW ITEMS WEAR THROUGHOUT THE DAY. I KNOW MOST PEOPLE TRYING TO SIMPLIFY THEIR WARDROBE ARE RE-WEARING ITEMS MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE WASHING, SO LETTING US KNOW HOW THEY HOLD UP AFTER MANY WEARS WOULD BE NICE.
I’VE REALLY ENJOYED YOUR LONGER POSTS AND MUSINGS, BUT I DON’T THINK YOU NEED TO MAKE THE OUTFIT POSTS WORDY. MAYBE THOSE CAN BE SIMPLE AND YOU CAN WRITE SEPARATE POSTS ON OTHER THOUGHTS.
lOVE YOUR BLOG AND LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE INSPIRATION!
I would love to hear your fit notes as well as why you styled pieces together (i.e. if you’re balancing proportions, weather, some activity during the day, packing for a trip, etc.). But I also have been loving your longer posts! You’re really helping me be intentional about my wardrobe, so thanks, Caroline! :)
I’m so glad you’re back from a hiatus! And so excited to hear from you more often – thank you!! I’d love more styling tips, especially what makes the difference on taking clothes from basic to an outfit. And I loved the hair tips you’ve shared in the past. More of those would be great too!
I’m sooo excited for these posts! I would love if the posts could include styling tips, fit and how each of the pieces wear in terms of care and quality. Also, I’m sure I speak for many people when I say that we would love to learn more about you.
Styling tips would be so helpful. You could tell us why you chose a certain piece that day – for a planned activity, because you were in a specific mood, etc. Also, I love the rambles. :) Personally I get so much out of hearing a blogger’s “voice” rather than just seeing photos. Whatever you decide to do, can’t wait!
fit notes. i’m all about the fit and i think all brands have their own idea of what a size is. it makes me hesitate buying something because i’m not familiar with sizing (i try to not do returns, it’s such a hassle)
I’d like fit notes and your thoughts on what does (or doesn’t) make a piece play well with others. Glad to see outfit posts will be back!
Styling tips and thoughts on your day are always fun :)
Personally, I’d love to see fit notes about each piece, as well as some styling tips. As others have mentioned, I like some personal comments too – the main reason I follow blogs like yours is for the clothes/outfits, but the blogs I love are those where I “get to know” the blogger a bit too.
I agree with Leslie!
I lover personal rambly thoughts!!
weather + activities for the outfit
I don’t really like post with photos and very little text. We are hear because we like to hear your thoughts, your though processes, your suggestions, ideas etc. So medium text length is good.
Exciting! Personally, I’d like to see fit notes, thoughts on the clothes, and how you feel about each outfit. And thoughts on how your personal style is evolving. And short is good!
I think a few posts back you said that you might detail what the temperature was that day and whether you were comfortable/uncomfortable in an outfit and I think that would be great as it would help us all in terms of picking formulas for outfits that can work in hot days and then help us to layer appropriately for cooler temps. What I wear is really based on temperature at the moment, as we’ve had highs of 80s but then lows of 50, so I think this would help the most.
My votes are for image heavy posts with very little to read and LOTS of outfits!!!! It’s my favorite :-)
I like a bit of personal… it doesn’t have to be long, but it was your personality that drew me to the site!
Also, fit notes would be great!
Very excited!
I vote for a mix. I love your personal ramblings (your voice/personality is one of the key things that brings us all here, whether people realize it or not).
I think notes on how you made choices about styling (and how we can apply it to our own unique wardrobes) would be the most helpful for me — my style is very different from yours — although we share many of the same wardrobe ambitions.
I’d like to hear about what you see in an article or an instagram post that makes you go, “Ooh, I want that’ and then see what comes out of your remixing as a result. Sort of a runway to real life but on a more “Madewell ad to real life” basis.
I think I would like to see all of the things you just mentioned, in a varied mix depending on how you feel that day! I imagine posting outfits (almost) every single day can become very tiresome, no matter how you love blogging in the first place, so please just write whatever you feel like, or just skip on the writing every now and then, we’ll live :)
Hi Caroline,
Yeah! So exciting!
I’d love to see the styling tips and also any random musings you have ? I really like your perspective on life (the don’t sweat the small stuff attitude) and I would love to hear more.
Thanks for the recommendation of the into mind blog. I’ve been reading up on colour theory and it’s fascinating!
Xx
Have fun :)
Very excited about the outfit ideas and seeing multiple uses for same items. It’s what hooked me on your blog pre-hiatus. I have also really enjoyed the new posts as well, hearing more insight and process as you stretch on new directions and learn new things. Whatever you write always sounds so relatable and genuine. Therefore, I would say: if you have stuff to say, say it! All the above suggestions. However, if sometimes there is nothing to say, that’s ok too! Maybe it’s the 5th time we’ve seen that shirt and there’s nothing more to say about it. Maybe last post was rambly and long and you’re tapped out for now. It’s ok if it’s just a picture and caption (“comfy outfit for running errands!” or whatever) Just don’t feel like you have to say stuff to make a long blog post, or it may lose the relatable genuine feel.
Love your writing and insight, your take is refreshing and grounding. Can’t wait to see more outfits. You are an inspiration!
I agree with Shay! I loved all the remixing of capsule pieces pre-hiatus. I’m really enjoying hearing about your thought process in the Monday & Thursday posts. I truly look forward to these because the content is high-quality compared to most blogs. I’d love if you could keep this up M/Th and then do shorter posts the other three days. Simple outfit posts with minimal text on those days is just fine. Whatever you want to share – fit notes, what you did that day, why you love a piece, styling suggestions, or something personal about yourself – anything you want! Adore your blog and am so glad you are back!
I’m a words person, so I like all of your suggestions! Personal style doesn’t come easy to me, so I always find explanation helpful.
Woohoo! That’s so exciting to hear. Been following along since before the hiatus, and I have to be honest – summer is the hardest season to style for me. All my outfits seem the same and hard to remix. Possibly because it’s so hot that all I want to wear is a tank and some shorts. Excited though for fall and seeing different layers and ways to style the same piece.
I would love to hear what you love/dislike about each designer and additional styling notes. I still appreciate your longer posts – if you think about it – since you’re adding more, you can keep your typical longer posts to once a week or so, and then keep the daily posts more minimal :) That way it’s a happy medium and you’re still able to share longer in depth thoughts if you want to.
I agree about the summer thing. E.g., Caroline I get that you love styling summer clothing and why, but one thing I have been wondering is why you chose to wear jeans in summer – is it b/c you are inside with a lot of AC? Personal style preference? An evening only outfit? So I’d love notes, however brief, about why you chose an outfit and how you “live” in it.
You see, I live, ummm, five states north of you and I couldn’t even look at a pair of jeans from early June until a week ago! I must be a heat wimp. But I am outside every day, so it could be a lifestyle thing. (I’m happy to be back in jeans now though, they are so much easier to style than summer clothes for me, as Stefanie said.) Your explanations of these little things do help me transfer that outfit/idea/formula over to my own life and figure things out. :)
Hi Caroline! I don’t post much but you’re hugely influential on my personal style. Anyway, my input: I like when you have a mix of outfit posts with regular long posts. You really shine in both arenas and I would hate to see you cut out either! Best of luck. -Andee
Just want to comment that I have enjoyed the thoughtful, longer posts.
So excited for more outfit posts! I would love to hear your thoughts on what makes the outfit and pieces work together well. Also, just curious- do you find that your dark wash jeans rub color onto your lighter items such as your cognac tote, booties, or clogs? Thanks! :)
Hey Christy! Yes! My Ona Palma bag has the worst indigo stains on the back (but I still wear it + love it + tell myself it adds character) ;) But I am super careful with my light colored clogs — I’ve worn them with my dark flares a couple of times and realized that it’s probably not a smart move. So I keep those clear of any dark indigo. :) xo, Caroline
Same here with me last time flares/boot cut jeans were “in” (discoloring shoes). To me, another impractical and high maintenance thing with wider-leg jeans (along with hem length, matching hem length to shoes, keeping hem clean, can’t easily wear with snow boots on cold days, needing a belt to hold up the extra weight, on and on). Sigh! I’ll take skinnies, slim leg, slim straight, straight, boyfriend, cropped and rolled, cigarette pants, flare skirts with leggings, whatever, I just hope I never again get the itch to go back to big flare jeans. So much more work for me to incorporate into a wardrobe and get tailored/ready to wear, and even then, they feel so much more limited in terms of top choices etc. :( Not that people don’t look nice in them, but they are not for me anymore! Hmm, I do still have some slightly bootcut jeans from a few years ago that were just the right length for ballet flats, but there were not so wide or so long as to interfere with shoes and, well, with walking, so I guess that will be my alternative if I decide to bring them back? Have you liked your flares Caroline on this front? They are cute on you! But I just look at them and think, ahhh! All that volume to deal with! :)
Thanks for your thoughts, Caroline! I really enjoy wearing flares, and appreciate your feedback.
Easy – I’d love to read everything that you mentioned above! Although I have certainly appreciated your longer posts too. I’m so excited for the return to mix and match :) Thank you for your time!
I’m just excited about more outfit posts and please write as much as you feel like that day. When I first discovered your blog in Sept. 2014, you were posting 6 days a week and I looked forward to seeing those posts each morning. I’m very bummed that I didn’t receive this post in an e-mail, because I like to save a lot of the e-mails and this would have been one of them. It’s not in my spam folder either.
I agree! Please keep them coming via email. I so look forward to the emails in my box. They seem to always arrive just before my lunch break!
Cool. Excited to see outfits daily! It’s super inspiring as I continue to refine and edit my wardrobe. Ramblings and outfit ideas sound great.
You can write about anything and I’ll still read it! However, if shorter posts mean you’ll do more outfit posts, I’m all for it. I’m ready to find some fall style inspiration :)
Long time reader, first time commenter here! I would love to see how simple changes to an outfit take it from day to night. Also, how little things can change the same outfit to make it “sporty”, “casual”, or “dressy” like with shoes for example. I have trouble styling my pieces and creating different “looks”. I often just wear the same outfit every week (sometimes twice ?) Looking forward to daily posts!
Love love LOVE your outfit posts! You are a huge style inspiration for me, and I love reading your posts, especially style tips and rambly thoughts. SO excited to see more posts – thank you!!!
Major fangirling happening over here. I know it’s so gotta be much work for you – you’re so awesome for doing this!! Personally I’m a fan of the rambly thoughts. :) You go, girl!!
I typically write notes on where or when I wore a certain outfit, and how I felt in it, just to make it more of a diary for me! I’m also interested if you have any fun stories behind your pieces (I have a lot of rand-me downs :) excited to follow along with the remix!
♥ perfectly Priya
I’m so excited to hear that there’ll me more outfit posts! I really like your thoughtful, longer posts but missed the more regular outfit posting.
As far as text goes: long and short are both fine. A lot of times I’m checking blogs on the bus or a work break, so short text is actually great for that. I’m more likely to settle in and read longer things on the weekends, but when I see a longer post I tend to save it for weekend reading.
As far as what is useful – first, I wouldn’t put pressure on yourself to always have something really useful or insightful! I think a combination of an outfit + a simple thought about the outfit is just fine :)
I’m particularly curious about how clothes fit in with the context of someone’s life, so l always like to know what you might wear an outfit for (date night, work at home day, weekend errands?) or how you could adjust an outfit for different purposes (for work, then for happy hour or date night). This helps me think about how clothes fit in my lifestyle, and what’s versatile for me.
Thoughts on favorite outfits or items + why you love them are also always helpful to me. Even if we have different style, it does make me think about why I like the clothes I do (and sometimes encourages me to try something new).
Conversely, thoughts on outfits/items that you didn’t 100% love for some reason. Like not every item/outfit pans out, and lots of bloggers don’t seem to talk about that, but it’s refreshing when it happens. And it makes me feel less bad about my own fails :)
Posts about tailoring or clothing care, if there’s anything you’ve gleaned there, would be so helpful. I’m trying to take better care of my stuff, especially as I buy nicer stuff.
Finding ethical alternatives to popular-brand items you’re drawn to. Really any posts about affordable ethical clothing.
“What would you like to see, text-wise, from these shorter, outfit idea posts? Additional styling tips? Fit notes on each piece? Notes on what I like / dislike about the designer? Personal, ramble-y thoughts on life that day?”
Any of the above. Really a mix would be fun, as the mood strikes. Looking forward to seeing more of your fun style, though I’ve also enjoyed some of these longer, thoughtful posts too.
I have been in a long transition into a capsule wardrobe, thanks to Un-fancy, but struggle coming up with creative outfit ideas. Your comments are so insightful but I would love to see more of how you style different pieces, it might help a lot as I move forward!
First of all, I have to say that I just love your long-winded posts! They are my favorite. Your writing is <3… with that said, I think it would be great to read about where you would wear the particular outfits that you're posting about. And maybe an example of how to dress it up or down for a particular occasion! Just an idea :) Whatever you do, I know it will be great and I'll be reading!
So excited for the outfit post. I always like your points of view on fit, how well it washes and styling tips. Like some else said above your input tend to make me more mindful of my purchases. I appreciate that.
A little bit of everything, I love your style tips, daily inspiration and the feeling of checking in with a friend to see what they’ve been up to today :-)
I love styling tips! Your blog has inspired me to invest in higher quality, classic pieces. Sometimes I get intimidated about how to style them- it would be great to see some posts about flattering ways to style clothing items of different proportions and lengths (I’m thinking about my blazers, oversized sweaters, overcoats, etc.). Additionally, with these new higher quality clothing pieces comes more upkeep. I LOVED your post about how to properly take care of silk and would be stoked if you made some similar posts in that vein, maybe about leather items and how to take care of those nice wool pea coats hanging in my closet?
I am really excited for your upcoming posts! I loved your undergarments one BTW. I am a sucker for a good long post, but a quick one here or their on your outfits, fit, why you like certain brands, etc is good too.
Hi, i love your long Posts, they also set you apart from other bloggers, they provide more than fast fashion, which fits well with the spirit of the blog! They give is insight, tips, and make us think ! Mix that with some more regular outfit posts and… YAY !!!!!
I completely agree :)
Been waiting for this! I don’t mind the short and the long (posts)…but I’m also a pictures kinda gal, so I’m super stoked on the mix-n-match/remix action. It’s inspiring and a great reminder that we just don’t need that much to be comfortable, stylish and in and out of the closet without as much head-scratching/grumbling. Looking forward to the daily!
I vote for styling tips and/or personal thoughts! I love how your voice comes through in your writing, so even longer posts are quick reads!
I’m all about the ramble! I’m not that into fashion, though your blog has helped me to be more intentional about what I’m wearing – it’s your take on life that keeps me coming back :)
Hi!
Can I say that I’ve been loving your long posts – so much soid content and your personality shines through :)
I’d like to learn more about styling, clothing combinations and colors that work and more about making clothing comfortable (I have stomach issues and hate getting blisters!), thanks!!!
I would like to see the reasoning behind the outfit that day. That could be weather forecast but could also be ” i am on my period and my belly is so bloated that I feel most comfortable in that”. I just noticed that my closet is missing some items for them I am on the period and my body is really different. I have really comfortable jeans, but they just don’t fit or do the trick when I am in pain. Would love some ideas on that, since it is like 1/4 of the month.
Yay! Would love a “these are all the clothes I’m wearing now-picture” at the start of a month/season. Stay awesome!
Styling & fit tips are always good – I’d also be keen to read if you’ve taken any “style risks” or “departures from your usual style” with your outfit that day and if so, what, and if you’re feeling comfortable! One aspect of a paired back wardrobe I’ve been struggling with, is that in an attempt to streamline my wardrobe, my look is feeling very same/same – to the point I feel like I’m in a style rut. Would be interested to hear how you make the selection of new wardrobe pieces that push your style in a new/current direction without worrying that it will end up unworn or hidden in the back of the closet. Example – as a break from denim this summer, I bought some black crepe culottes back in May…..but alas, have not worn them because they feel like such a departure from my usual style, and so back to denim I go…But at the time of purchase, these culottes really felt like a key summer purchase to help mix up my wardrobe options…
I did the same thing, bought black culottes. I wore them once, but none of my tops looked quite right and I felt kind of awkward in them so I gave them away rather than struggle with them any further. I really want to avoid my purchases ending up this way.
I’d like to know how to add to or subtract from an outfit due to outdoor weather vs. indoor climate. Like right now it’s in the 90s outside and humid but the grocery store and restaurants are in the 60s and the air is so dry. I walk instead of drive and can barely stand to carry a purse, I certainly don’t want to lug around extra clothing, too.
Seems we all like to hear what you have to say, so I would just do what feels right for that days post.
I personally would love to hear about some of the things that don’t work out for you and why. Sometimes I end up with pieces and I just can’t figure out why they don’t work so I love other peoples insight.
Yay for more outfit posts! I like reading what u have to say but I know it can be hard to have some great thoughts everyday. Just feel it out! Don’t worry about a specific post formula. Just post pics and whatever comes to mind:)
Fit notes, comments on the clothes themselves (are they working out the way you had hoped? Do they have any special quirks?), and thoughts on the designers/quality would be awesome.
Also… what do you do when you end up with clothes you love, but can’t figure out how to wear?
Caroline,
Looking forward to more style posts. Missed them. I have been lurking around here for two years and finally need to say thank you. I’ve been diligently taking in all the advise and am putting it to the test. UK for 10 days and only carry on. I got my style down pat and am very happy. It felt like second nature no second guessing, repacking etc. New exactly what to bring. And I still have room for some goodies!!! Thanks again, and looking forward to the months to come!
Hey Caroline! I read your blog because I like your writing style and personality. As long as it still sounds authentic, I am happy reading long posts, short posts, rambling posts, succinct posts,… : )
I think shorter is actually better, who has time to read a long post anymore?!
LOVE your blog! STYLING TIPS!!! Here’s how I rolled the cuffs on this shirt. Here’s how to tie a belt. Advice on dimension and scale of outfits. Here’s how to use an outfit to focus attention HERE. (Maybe a whole blog post on that later on with pictures of different examples so we can really get it). Things like that. We love you!!!!
I second that a mix of long and short posts would be great! I’d also love more shoe tips. How to choose a color and style, or tips for folks like me who commute on foot several miles a day but hate wearing sneakers. Shoes are the hardest part for me, but you have a knack for choosing them!
I’d love to see more of your “remix” – styling and making the most of what you have in your wardrobe and how to build a wardrobe that can be worn that way. I personally get turned off by a lot of bloggers that always have new and spendy itmes (who can realistically afford that???), but at the same time I think everyone likes to (and it’s fun!!) to shop now and again. So talking a bit about how you decide what you’re looking to add to your wardrobe and the process.
Any and all styling tips you have would be awesome too … not just how to make it look good in a picture but how to style something to wear all day in real life. Thank you! So looking forward to what is to come!
Hi Caroline, I found your blog a while back, pre-hiatus, and have been reading ever since! One reason I am particularly drawn to your blog is because you approach fashion as an outflow of your own life and personality. Certain aspects of life change, and thus, so does style. It’s interesting to read glimpses of your journey and see how that is reflected outwardly in thoughtful purchasing and personal styling. So…I hope you keep sharing your life stories and journey with your readers, whether those are long or short posts.
So excited! Have loved it all–especially hair/skin tips as a way to add ease and cheap style change.
Perhaps guests whom you’ve inspired? With different body types?
Thanks for all the thought and care you put into this site.
Hey Jess! Thanks for the suggestions. I do have a guest blogger series here! http://www.un-fancy.com/category/guest-bloggers/ Hope you’ll check them out! :) xo, Caroline
Love the fit notes/wash wear of the clothes (you once mentioned a top in a season you loved but it wrinkled so easily, it was hard to maintain), I don’t think you’d have to add much for additional styling tips, since you’ll show so many things mix/matched (no need for “I’d wear this piece this way also”, since we might see that later in the month, but you might mean something different by styling tips, you always surprise with your writing!), and I LOVE Caroline rambling. You’re fun, which is why the blog is a success!
Recap: 4-5 posts/week //and daily outfits sound AMAZING. Anything you add for text will be fun. If I had to pick one thing, the general fit/wear on a piece and rambling should be text priorities! :)
I’d love seeing something like this! I know I won’t ever have a small numbered curated closet but I do want a smaller closet. Having items that can mix and match will really help! Knowing why you picked it and how it met or didn’t meet our expectations would be nice.
You are rocking the denim with denim style – I don’t know if I can pull it off but it looks great on you! You are giving me inspiration :)

Adding my few thoughts into the cauldron, I’d like everyday life thoughts as well as styling tips here and there – when something occurs to you or you have an aha moment. I don’t care about fit that much, it’s more of a side note to me, because I’m in Europe and can’t purchase the things you are buying and also my body type is completely different to yours. The same goes for designer thoughts, they are irrelevant to me (that sounds a bit harsh, I don’t mean it that way though :) )
I haven’t read all of the previous comments, but I feel like you may end up doing a little bit of each to satisfy the crowd? But I’d say, write only what you feel like writing. We’ll still come and support you and the posts will be that much better.
I’m looking forward to reading the 10×10 remix and what you learn from it! I’ve done it twice and it’s been great. Hope you’re well Caroline.
Love,
Kat
I think an “un-fancy” text post would be a perfect fit with your “un-fancy” vibe!!
Can we get a mix of shirt and long posts? I personally really enjoy listening to life ramblings and such, but I also love the short daily outfits!
Short and inspirational is my favorite…with lots of pictures!
I think it would be neat to hear about clothes that you don’t have, or wish you had, or resisted the urge to buy. Like, “Today I really wished I had an oversized ivory sweater like an outfit I saw on Pinterest, but here’s what I wore instead and why.” Or, “A lot of people are wearing puffy vests right now. I don’t have one, so here’s what I wear when I want that look.”
As a reader since the beginning of your capsule days, it’s great to have you back! Really looking forward to seeing the mix and match over the course of a season – I honestly studied your old posts to watch the versatility of pieces I had in my own closet! In case you’re counting up the votes for different topics, here are mine (in wishlist order):
1. How is the garment holding up? I know you have brand partnerships & affiliate links, but your unvarnished thoughts on how items are surviving the increased wear that comes with a smaller closet would be supremely helpful.
2. What was the goal of the outfit (e.g. occasion & weather), and did it work out how you wanted?
I’m also in Europe these days, so while I can’t shop the links I can definitely study the look. No need for a novel with each post, I know that takes a ton of time. :)
Hi Caroline,
I appreciate the effort you are adding everyday to your posts to show us a little bit of the mix and match/ capsule idea with less clothes and shopping. It is true that a year ago I started reading your blog and follow your capsule advised and it worked great for me in finding my style and summarize my wardrobe. I know that I am just a starter right now.
A shorter post with outfit example would help and you should also give us some advises, some other options and also some other colours examples on the same outfit. Also, for example, if you have some black pants they work with almost everything just like jeans do, but a skirt for example will not. A few other examples like if you do not have this type of shirt to mix it with, you can try also….this and that.
Thank you so much!
Andreea
YAY! Best news ever!!!
Also would love to hear more about what is not working and what pieces you’re letting go of and why (worn out? No longer your style? Made a decision to buy and never wore it?). I’m much better now at buying only things I love, but I still make mistakes and impulse buy occasionally in the name of experimentation, and it’s helpful to hear how others improve on that. Love the blog!
I really appreciate both outfit/styling posts and your posts about life in general! Your posts about refocusing on what matters, changing plans to be with family (posts with more text), as well as your posts about style, fashion, caring for clothes etc (posts with more images) are all valuable. Reading through your blog has really helped me think about simplifying life, valuing things more, and being more intentional in many aspects of my life. Whether it be helping me find my own style, sharing neat tools like the sweater comb or simplifying and finding balance in life, I really value the mix of fashion and life and short and long posts.
Thanks Caroline!
Maybe I’m too much of a minimalist, but I love the short + concise posts with lots of visuals :)
Additional styling tips, how a piece wears and is holding up, tips on how to care for your garments, why you chose one piece from Company A but not Company B…
Looking forward to it!
I’m glad you’ll be posting more outfits. One helpful thing might be if you showed a couple different ways to accessorize each outfit.
Funding the right length is such a tough one, isn’t it. I think I’d want the basic details as a minimum (what you’re wearing + why you put those bits together) but the rest I think can be fluid. Some days you might write more, others less. I think length should be what you feel – you can tell when people are writing to fill space, right?
Glad for your return to the frequent outfit posts! Here’s what I’ve loved in the past:
1) I love to hear about your thought process when you style something a new way – it helps inform my own outfit choices!
2) Hearing about the quality/fit of each brand is helpful for me because we have a similar body type.
3) I also love your rambley thoughts for the day. I usually find them super relatable.
Such a pretty casual look!

I’d love to hear about daily outfit inspiration and why you chose that outfit for that day, whether it’s practical for running errands or because you’re in love with a new pair of jeans and want to wear them every day! Short posts with outfit pictures are awesome daily inspiration for us readers :)
Hey Caroline!
I’m really looking forward to seeing all your new outfit posts! Will you be doing a full capsule post again? One where you document and share each piece in the season’s capsule? I really miss having the details for each piece.
When it comes to the text in your blog itself, I’ve been really loving your longer blog posts lately. My favorites are the ones where you share ways minimalism has effected other aspects of your life as well as those that include snippets of wisdom. Your post about the composer who says “how fascinating” when mistakes are made is one I will never forget. I would also looooove to see a fall reading list!
Hey Jennie! I have sort of evolved the capsule – it’s a seasonal one, but I’m not as strict with my numbers anymore. So I’ll be transitioning some cool weather pieces in and eventually pulling some warm weather pieces out, but I won’t be sharing a grid of each item. Thanks for the sweet comment! :) xo, Caroline
I second the fall reading list request!
Caroline,
I would love to read more about your outlook on life. My favorite posts are when you reflect on life and how style fits into that.
Thank you for creating this blog! I started reading it a year ago and I have transformed so much through the capsule wardrobe idea! I am beyond grateful for how you have helped me pioneer this area in my life.
Caroline, what time will the blog post be today? I have to keep checking, because I can’t depend on getting an e-mail (which makes me sad, because I want to save all the outfit e-mails).
Carol, it’s up, it’s up! :) xo, Caroline
I LOVE when you give the honest, behind the scenes details about how things didn’t work or in your recent post, how you have been tempted in the past to style for your ideal fall instead of the practical, actual fall :) I totally resonate with that since, I live in GA and I totally struggle with the whole ideal fall issue! Either way, I always find awesome value in your posts and still enjoy your random thoughts for the day as well :)
Fit notes are always nice, but I definitely love the rambling day-to-day writing that many bloggers do. It’s fun to see what people are up to and get an insight into how other people think and see things!
I’m, excited to hear and see more frequent outfits – the fascinating ones show you’re learning just like me, and the 100% #nailedit ones are great inspiration. I like quick daily life ramblings – I love hearing what people are into whether it be fashion, good books, life dreams, or whatever someone is passionate about in the moment, are always some of my favorite posts. Inspired by comments on your blog and your journey, I’ve also started trying to purchase more sustainable clothing, so notes on particular sustaibable/ethical companies/designers that you have tried and like would be interesting too. Looking forward to frequent awesomeness! Thanks for switching things up – I always get excited for the directions you take the blog, even when it’s a hiatus – you’re bringing us on your journey, which is a huge priviledge, and sometimes the way you’re growing is a step or two ahead of me, so I don’t really know where you’re going, or necessarily feel comfortable with where it is (like sustainable fashion), but I’m always glad when we get there. <3
Caroline where is that poof from?? Is it two IKEA ones stacked? I’m looking for one just like that! I love seeing how far your blog has come. I remember when you did your first seasonal capsule wardrobe and I’d get excited when I received notification of a new post! Still do! Welcome back to Seattle! It should be clear tomorrow!
