Capsule #3 / Outfit 43
Happy Labor Day!
What are you up to on this lovely holiday?
We’re cooking burgers by the pool a little later. And then going night swimming — the best kind of swimming. :)
I know you’re probably on track pant overload, but I’ve got one last outfit for you. My favorite thing about it? The backpack that’s totally unexpected + playful. With my black cross body purse, this outfit would be cute + safe + a little predictable. I wanted to shake it up a bit, so I threw on the backpack, and there you have it!
So it’s September, and you know what that means — time to start talking Fall wardrobe! Starting tomorrow, I’ll be posting little snippets of my shopping process.
I’m so excited!
Top: Madewell (sold out — so sorry)
Bottoms: Zara (similar)
Shoes: Dolce Vita
Bag: Hobo
Bracelets: Madewell
Earrings: Isharya via Anthro
Can’t wait to see the snippets of your fall shopping!!

Turns out it’s going to be 90 degrees here in NYC today, and I’m not ready at all to start a Fall wardrobe! You were right! so, sales be damned, risking items being sold out be damned, I think my start will be Oct 1. like you. I can live in jeans and layers until then. I might be chickening out, but, honestly, for this one, i could use some guidance – I’ll happily wait and make notes on your shopping to help me put together my fall capsule (my first!). Thanks again for your lovely, calm, inspiring blog!
Did you wear the pants 4 days in a row?
You can get that top at ShopBop!
It’s so funny because what’s super unexpected to one is home to another. My go to has always been a knapsack, and it would feel so strange, but fresh, to lug around a tote instead- maybe I should give it a try next time!
I’m getting physiqued for fall and to watch the curating process begin!
I definitely agree- pairing it with the backpack was unexpected and brought this look to a whole other level. I would totally wear this in a heart beat. And jealous of your night swimming :)

Hi from New Zealand, Caroline! :) I’ve recently started following your blog, and must say, that I too am inspired by your neutral capsule wardrobe, (very drawn to these colours atm!) and feel I’lll put something similar together for Spring/Summer here!.
Can’t wait to see how you go about planning/shopping for the next season! Love your style! :)
Yay! Can’t wait to see your shopping process!
My problem with creating the Fall wardrobe turned out to be too many things, too little imagination. I don’t know what else can I do except for jeans+shirt+sweater combo. I don’t really wear skirts/dresses so it’s been very challenging! Do I buy cute skirts and lovely dresses and never wear them again? Do I just buy lots of sweaters? Hmm…
Hey Caroline! I have recently started to plan a capsule wardrobe myself and while I was proud initially for being able to think of very diverse items (nothing specific, just general ideas), today I have woken up in a strange sort of mood and decided that it’s all extremely BORING!
So, I can’t wait to hear about your autumn wardrobe – perhaps some hints as to how to shake things up a bit because my current options are so safe that I feel kind of… Old :(
So excited to see your thoughts on a fall capsule! I’ve started my first capsule for September through November, and it’s been really fun so far. I’ve had a hard time paring it down to 35 (or 37) pieces, though– since I work in an office, I find that there’s a distinct line between some of my work clothes and my casual attire, so I ended up with some “duplicate” categories (3 casual pants, 3 work pants). Right now I have 44 items, not counting shoes (still working on that piece!). However, I love the intentionality behind planning a capsule and I did end up donating/selling/storing many more pieces than I anticipated!
I even got one of my girlfriends on board and she asked me to be her “capsule consultant.” I can’t wait! Thanks for being such a fabulous inspiration for minimalist fashion! Keep up the great work.
