It’s funny that yesterday I was all, “I’m losing my energy for this remix.”
Because all of a sudden, I feel a huge spike in energy because we’re almost done! I’m starting to reflect on everything I’ve learned over the past two weeks and it feels invigorating to see all these lessons come together.
My 10×10 co-host, Lee of Style Bee and I have loved seeing you guys share what you’ve learned via the #winter10x10 tag these past few days. Keep ’em coming! We love reading your thoughts and seeing how we all approach getting dressed in different ways. In next Tuesday’s wrap up post, I’ll be sharing everything I’ve learned so far, too.
But in the meantime, we still have two more outfits to go!
FIRST IMPRESSION
YES and YES. This is a classic, go-to outfit for me. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing really new, just an outfit that I love.
I’m also loving the bright white tee. After wearing charcoal so many days in a row, this girl is ready to lighten things up a little. Sure everything else in this outfit is black or charcoal, but that highlights the tee all the more, turning it into a statement.
WEATHER + DAILY ACTIVITIES
It’s warming up a bit! Today will be beautiful — it’ll almost touch 70 degrees.
As far as daily activities, it’s another regular day around here: working from home most of the day, gym time, and running errands if needed. While I’m at home, I’ll probably nix the black cardigan, since dog hair sticks to it like nothing else. Instead, I’ll probably pull out my grey Patagonia fleece, since I’ll want a light layer that doesn’t show dog hair. It’s not included in my 10 pieces, but like I said the other day, there’s no such thing as cheating — just creative solutions. :)
Later tonight, Aaron and I are going out tonight for a low key date night. We’ll probably grab a glass of wine and enjoy an outdoor fire pit at our favorite winery. Luckily, this outfit works for the whole day, although I may add a cuff bracelet for our date night.
Here’s why this outfit works for today:
- I can add or remove layers as needed on this warmer day.
- It’s comfortable enough for a day of working at home, but cute enough for a date night later tonight.
- It just makes me feel happy and confident.
PIECE #8: WHITE TEE
I didn’t want to include this white tee in my 10 pieces. I really didn’t. Instead, I wanted to include another sweater — my beloved slouchy grey sweater. Because, winter.
But, winter weather in Texas can be all over the place. I’m sure glad I embraced the weather where I live (instead of my fantasy idea of winter), and went with the tee instead of the sweater. It’s been a lifesaver on the warmer “winter” days, like today. My little 10 piece capsule wouldn’t have been successful without it.
This particular tee is from Everlane. The fit is slouchy, the v is sharp and not too low, and the linen fabric makes for a beautiful texture. Even better — it’s made responsibly.
Everlane doesn’t stock this tee in linen right now, what with it being winter. But I have a feeling they’ll bring it back in the spring.
In the meantime, this cotton v neck tee from Everlane has the same neckline, and here’s a luxe version that has even more drape to it.
I got a size XS and it fits just right, although I could have sized up to a S for an even slouchier look. To care for it, I wash it on cold, reshape it, and hang it to dry so it doesn’t shrink.
STYLING NOTES
MINIMAL ACCESSORIES | I’m cooling on accessories right now. For my fall remix, I went a little overboard, trying to counterbalance the limited pieces by over-accessorizing. Because of that, some of the outfits didn’t feel true to my style. So this time, I’m just trying to keep things as real and as wearable as possible.
FRONT TUCK | Nothing groundbreaking, just the tiniest bit of styling to make the whole look a bit more put-together.
LAYERED NECKLACES | Even though, I haven’t been into statement jewelry lately, I still wanted to add a tiny bit of interest to this basic outfit. So I went with my favorite subtle combination — two delicate necklaces, layered over each other.
WARMING UP THE COLOR PALETTE THROUGH ACCESSORIES | This black and white color palette is a little cold, but the cognac accessories warm things right up. And, they match! I’m on a matching-shoes-and-bag kick right now. I don’t treat it as a rule, but I do think it can give an outfit a finished look.

I like this look! Casual and simple. Nice!
I really love the layered minimal necklaces! Can you do a post about that? I have my ‘look’ down in terms of clothing, but struggle with jewelry. I like thin necklaces and earrings, but struggle finding worthwhile brands. I tried a few only to have them bend of break within 3 months.
Sincerely, Tania
I’ll add that to my list of ideas, Tania! Thanks :)
I agree! Would love a post on this too. It’s one thing I’ve loved about your style notes.
Hi, I came across your blog this week and I love it! I’ve never been a big shopper but I wasn’t great at “remixing” my wardrobe – this is giving me lots of inspiration :)
On day 6 you posted an IG story with a dark outfit that you then added some brown pieces to – where was that necklace from? I really liked how it matched with your boots and bag.
Hey Jessica, thanks! The necklace was actually from a local guy, who sadly doesn’t sell online :( I’ll keep a lookout for similar pieces though!
Cotton tee link is not working for me. Help?
Hey Elizabeth, it seems to be working from my end… try this: http://bit.ly/2k4MZn8 :)
I’ve been wearing a lot more minimal accessories, too! It’s kind of weird to go days without putting on earrings, haha. I love the layered necklaces you’ve got going on. I was tempted to wear a scarf in all of my 10×10 looks because it was so dang cold. (Can we switch weather? ;) Utah is beautiful and snowy!)
The white tee really does brighten this look, which is totally necessary for these winter days. You were smart to include a t-shirt rather than another sweater, given your temperature fluctuations!

Caroline,
I’ve really enjoyed this challenge. My new year is busy and not having to struggle every morning to put together a cute outfit is changing my life and my whole attitude for the day. I’ve definitely learned some things on this challenge….I focused too much on one piece that I wanted to wear, but it just wouldn’t work with my wardrobe, and I ended up having to change up my challenge pieces a bit. I too tried to put to many “winter” pieces into my capsule and I live in West Texas too so it didn’t work out as well. I don’t wear bright white, but creamier whites, and haven’t found the perfect cream tee yet. I have a similar style to yours, and just really enjoy following your blog, and have found so many other friends to follow now too.
I would love to see more about how to take a good picture to share. I haven’t photographed any of my outfits because I can’t get a good picture.
Peace and Blessings! Thanks for the inspiration.
Hey Kasey! Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad to hear you found a lesson in it all. I will add the photo tips to my list of ideas too :)
Love the necklaces! How is the quality of the one on Etsy? I have bought a lot of jewelry off there and sometimes when I get it, it just doesn’t feel as nice and well made as I thought it would! I am considering ordering the one you tagged. Let me know! Thanks!!
Lauren
Honestly, I’m loving it and I plan to do another 10×10 for the next 10 days with another set of clothes. I love the restriction imposed because it takes a lot of the guesswork out of getting dressed. I’m 8 months pregnant, so I already have a limited wardrobe that fits and is comfortable but I’m getting bored of. Now, instead of thinking I have nothing to wear I think I can only wear these pieces and then I have to make them work. It takes a lot of the decision making out of my mornings because I usually have very few choices to figure it out with. With three tops available (in my case) I already rule one out because I wore it yesterday and I don’t like to repeat tops. So I’m down to deciding between two of them. This is great for me. It brings me the same peaceful feeling of having few choices when I’m traveling. I’ll have to see if I feel different when I’m not pregnant anymore and I have access to my whole closet instead. First time I did such a constraining challenge and I’m in love.
That’s so cool Mila! Keep it rolling :)
My favorite outfit so far. Love, love, love. You look happy in it, too!
This remix has been eye opening and motivating! Today, I’ve been going thru my very cluttered closet, which effects my thoughts, mood, and emotions. I’ve tossed a lot of cheep clothes. Better yet, I just purchased a few “base layers” and realized, while no one sees them, I feel better & more comfortable. So, with that being said, I will be purchasing more quality “base layers” (which includes undergarments?) shoes, purses, and jeans. Thanks for all your help and insight!!! I know, I know quality verses quantity, has really spoke to me with this remix! Smiles, Marti?
Good plan, Marti! Sometimes base layers (including undies) can make a huge difference in the comfort and functionality of an outfit! :)
I get what you are saying about your white tee and fantasy winter. For summer in the UK, I would need to include light jumpers and a thin raincoat, because our summer can be cool and wet. However, we have been cold this January! Only a brief flurry of snow but quite a bit of frost, ice and fog. Lots of wool jumpers, furry boots and a down-filled coat here.
Thank you for always posting clothing items that are made responsibly. It’s so helpful to discover new ethical brands and see them styled fashionably.
