When it comes to my typical morning — writing at a coffee shop and then running errands — I’m pretty at ease with my style. I know I’ll probably land on a look that’s sporty, minimalist, romantic, or a mix of all three. No matter what, the outfits are casual. Think: running shorts, flip flops or sneakers, canvas bags, etc.
But here’s what I’m currently working out: What do I wear when I need to be the polished version of myself? Not dressed up or fancy — just slightly more polished.
I’ve sort of overlooked this area of my style because this need comes up infrequently. Probably twice a month. But it still happens, and when it does, I often feel at a loss. My usual running shorts won’t cut it.
So this outfit was one such attempt at getting that one right. I didn’t want to go strictly classic with straight jeans, a blazer, and heels, you know? So I did baggy jeans, a vest layered over a tee, and flip flops (lol, my dressy flip flops, okay?).
I like it. A bit more polished, while retaining a casual vibe. It worked for the event (a casual art auction). I felt comfortable, neither overdressed nor underdressed.
But…
I also think it could be better.
The main thing I want to work on here is my shoe and bag game. Flip flops, while minimal and streamlined, are just a scooch too casual. A flat sandal that’s a little more strappy, like this or this might work well. Or if I’m stuck on flip flops, a heeled flip flop would be nice. And maybe a real bag. Something with personality though, like this zebra number.
Anyway, I’m working it out. Thanks for being along while I do. :)

It’s such an interesting take on the polished version of oneself! I love the outfit and the way you analyze the whole process of getting dressed, these days.
I believe third pieces are a game changer when you think of elegant outfits!
But, there’s something about using this vest buttoned up that I think it could be better…
Maybe if you wore it open, with a strap blouse ou crop top underneath it, i don’t know… it is just a suggestion! I would love to see it if you try it!
Anyway, you still look amazing! xo from Brazil
