Haaaaappy summer! My favorite season is officially here.
When summer hits, my whole being relaxes, releases, and just feels at peace. And after a personally turbulent + emotional spring, I’m welcoming that feeling with open arms. Wide open arms! Give me all the pool days, yard games, and snow cones. :)
So to welcome summer, today we’re talking summer skin care and makeup. My whole routine changes significantly during the hot months — the makeup gets lighter and easier, and the skin care gets more nourishing and hydrating.
So let’s get down to it! Today we’ll chat:
- My summer skin care routine (every product is clean — no harmful chemicals, yay!)
- My fuss-free makeup routine (four quick products and no blending tools required)
- Plus a few extra goodies, like natural self-tanner and aluminum-free deodorant
Before we jump in, I want to let you know that this is not a sponsored post — but prepare yourself for some serious raving all the same. I love these products. Over the past year, I’ve been finding and trying different clean products — weeding through the not-so-great ones and finding the keepers. So I’m definitely rave-y in this post, and excited to share my findings with you.
MY SUMMER SKIN CARE ROUTINE
STEP 1 | Osmia Organics Black Clay Facial Soap | I’d been using makeup wipes as a cleanser when I switched over to this soap. And what a difference it made! Right after I used it for the first time, my skin was immediately soft — like, softer than it’s ever been. It’s good for sensitive skin, but I will tell you that I went through an adjustment period with it — my face broke out more than usual for about a week. But smooth sailing ever since.
STEP 2 | Khus + Khus Detox Hydrolat | I was skeptical at first. Spritzing infused water on my face, really? But now I get it. Not only does this stuff moisturize and hydrate, it also calms + purifies the skin and minimizes wrinkles by plumping the cells. You can even use it as aromatherapy to calm the central nervous system — that’s what I love most about it. It’s become such a soothing ritual.
STEP 3 | Khus + Khus Detox Serum | This clean serum is full of nutrients and serves as an antiseptic, astringent, and healing tonic — it even has cellular regenerative properties. Crazy, I know, but my skin is loving it. Plus a little goes a long way — I’ve used it daily for four months and I still have at least half the bottle left.
STEP 4 | Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer | Another clean product, this moisturizer is the newest addition to my lineup, and I’m thrilled with it. It promised to reduce redness (which I’m prone to, especially in the summer) and I’m happy to say I see a noticeable difference already.
MY FUSS-FREE MAKEUP ROUTINE
STEP 1 | Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream in Natural Glow (gifted to me) | Meet the gold standard in quick + easy makeup. This stuff is so easy to blend, I hardly even have to use a mirror — and definitely no sponges or blending tools needed. It’s got a light coverage — less than foundation but still enough to even out skin tone. Bonus: built in SPF. Double bonus: it’s rated low hazard on the EWG scale.
STEP 2 | Maya Chia Highlight of the Day in Golden Hour | Hello radiance in a bottle (and hello clean, healthy ingredients). Dab a drop or two on your upper cheekbones or anywhere you need a little extra glow. You can even apply it near the inner corners of your eyes to brighten + wake them up. It comes in three different shades — I got Golden Hour and it gives off that lit from within look.
STEP 3 | French Girl Mineral Lip Tint in Sonali (gifted to me) | Kristeen, the founder of French Girl Organics, started her line on Etsy in 2010, and has been steadily gaining a cult following since. This 92% organic tube provides stunning color, but it’s essentially a lip balm — so no worries about applying it just so. It’s sheer and fresh.
STEP 4 | Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Brown | I’ve loved this stuff for years. It’s the most natural looking brow pencil I’ve found and it stays put. I wear it every day — even when the rest of my face is going makeup-free.
OPTIONAL | Lash Extensions | If you want lush lashes but don’t want to mess with makeup over the summer, you may want to try lash extensions. I had ’em for a solid 6 months and loved them. I didn’t use an ounce of eyeliner or mascara the whole time — so no raccoon eyes either, hooray! Just recently, I stopped getting them to give my wallet a break, but I may start again in the fall. P.S. After growing out my extensions, my natural lashes are still happy and healthy — no damage done.
Beauty by Earth Self Tanner | I’m a little too lazy to use self tanner right now, but I used this stuff all the time last summer. As far as self-tanners go, it’s one of the healthiest options out there. It goes on easily, it’s buildable, and the color is spot on — it’s a sheer bronze, not orange.
Maya Chia Revitalizing Body Oil | Skin feeling a little beat up by the sun + heat? Here’s your new bestie. This clean body oil is essentially a superfood for your skin, with grape seed, supercritical chia, and pumpkin seed oil. It’s an excellent source of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins for summer-worn skin.
Freedom Deodorant | The struggle is real — finding a natural deodorant that works is tough. But after trying 10 or so different options, I finally found an aluminum-free deodorant that works for me. I use the unscented stick, but the Bergamot-Mint smells heavenly if you like a scented deodorant. Since it’s not an antiperspirant, I still sweat but I don’t get smelly — even on triple digit days!
Sally Hanson Nail Polish in Poof! Be-gonia | Definitively not a natural or clean product, but this is my favorite shade to wear on my toes in the summer. Currently wearing it right now. :)

P.S. A few of you have been asking if I’ll be doing a 10×10 challenge for the summer — YES! I’m teaming up with my dear friend (and the original 10×10 creator) Lee of Style Bee to host the summer 10×10 challenge. It’s happening in July — more details coming soon. :)
