This may be one of my favorite outfits I’ve put together in a while. I’m so proud of it!
These boots were a black Friday scoop from last year, but I haven’t actually worn them yet. I know! They are so beautiful, but I find tall boots just a little challenging to style in real life. In theory, I could style them to the moon and back, but when it comes to styling them in a way that actually feels aligned with me, I’ve been coming up empty.
But the moment I though of pairing them with a denim dress, it all unlocked. Even though the dress is short and formfitting, something about the denim tones it all down. Denim really grounds the tall black boots, and the whole look is very balanced and cool. This is an outfit I’d wear on a night out without hesitation.
(Full disclosure, while I’m definitely adding a denim dress to my wardrobe, I’m not sure if I’m keeping this particular dress. The armholes are a little loose on me. I’m curious if this dress from Reformation might fit better? The thing is, I like the wash, seaming, and frayed edges on the one I’m wearing better. We’ll see.)
There’s nothing like denim to make an outfit feel like *me*. I’m realizing one of my best styling moves right now is adding denim to an outfit — but not in pant form. Give me an oversized denim button down, a denim bustier top, a denim dress. Denim everywhere except pants.

If you love the dress then it’s worth seeing if a tailor could bring the armholes in a bit. I’ve had that done several times, though it can also bring in the bust a bit so you usually need some extra room there. But it’s a fix I’ve done a lot with dresses because I’m a full size different in tops and bottoms, so a dress that fits my hips is often a bit large in the top. Such a cute outfit!
You look absolutely fantastic! Love this outfit.
