Thursday, January 18 • After the cold snap we just had, I couldn’t help but celebrate the slightly warmer weather today with shorts. There was a moment there where I was considering wearing linen shorts today. But something about linen shorts in January feels wrong, even to me (and that’s saying something). So, sweat shorts it is! (If shorts aren’t an option, grey sweatpants would work just as well.)
Nothing like a jolt of red to liven up my mood! Red is relatively new to my wardrobe, and I’ve been noticing that the handful of red pieces I’ve added are unabashedly sporty. Think: running shorts, a baseball cap, this fleece. Sporty pieces are already a staple in my wardrobe, so that makes the new color feel like less of a jump. I already wear running shorts a lot, so why not in red? I already wear fleeces all the time, so why not in red?
When branching out stylistically, I like to do it in a way that doesn’t require me to try both a new color and a new silhouette at the same time. Give me a familiar piece in an unfamiliar color or vice versa, but not both at the same time. That way it’s more likely to go with my existing wardrobe, and be something I’ll wear season after season.
