Last month, I never got around to posting this outfit:
Then a few days ago, I wore the same outfit with slightly different styling — slide sandals instead of Sambas, light canvas bag instead of black canvas bag, claw clip instead of bun. The styling differences were subtle, but I was fascinated to observe how they changed the whole feel of the outfit.
I like them both, but I think I prefer the second outfit. It feels like it has more intention behind it. The styling is layered, almost like a cake — nice button up shirt on top, sporty shorts in the middle, nice sandals on the bottom. That pattern makes it feel balanced and chic. Plus, I’m just loving a claw clip moment right now. Can’t get enough!
The first look doesn’t have that layered pattern to it, and that leaves it feeling a little off-kilter. I think if I’d swapped the black canvas bag for my fancy Little Liffner tote, the whole look might have worked a bit better.
Really there’s no right or wrong, it’s just fun to make observations. I know myself, and I certainly have days where I prefer a haphazard look to a dialed-in look. It depends on my mood that day. And that’s the beauty of personal style — it can be tailored to your mood with just a few small styling tweaks.
Which one is speaking to you today?

Love the second look with sandals !
I definitely feel like you really show how you don’t have to be flashy to be chic. I agree with Marie, the second look with the sandals is super cute!
