So we’re a little over a month into spring! And I feel some shifts happening in my style!
Keep scrolling to see 11 of my favorite looks from this month — and to hear 4 of my key style observations.
See the full outfit details:
1 | Sporty is king.
Looking at this collection of outfits, I see one strong theme: SPORTY! I favored bike shorts, sweatshirts, canvas totes, parachute pants, basic tees, baseball caps, and sneakers of all sorts.
There’s a hefty dose of minimalism in there too — clean lines, neutral colors, unfussy black flip flops, an intentionally understated 90’s handbag.
And then there’s a hint of classic style in there — straight leg jeans, a cashmere cardigan, simple dresses, and button up shirts.
Looking forward: I love the sporty aesthetic and only see it continuing as the weather gets warmer.
2 | My basics are really working for me.
I’m currently noticing that my closet is set when it comes to basics.
WOOHOO!
I’ve been working towards building a solid foundation of basics for quite some time now, and I feel like I’m there.
So I’m at the point in my wardrobe-building process where it’s now time to shift away from purchasing basics, and shift my attention towards incorporating a few non-basics into my closet.
I don’t want to dip too far into fantasy dressing — you know, when you buy clothes you love in theory, but never actually wear in your real life — so my goal here is to go very slow.
Looking forward: There are two “going out” tops I’m interested in trying — a strapless top and a knit vest top. We’ll see!
3 | Yep, I’m really feeling color!
I wrote about this in my last monthly wrap up — but I’m so drawn to color right now! And I’m going to lean into that.
I added a couple of green pieces and one blue piece to my wardrobe in April. Honestly, I’m down for more!
Looking forward: Blues and greens are what I’m feeling the most, so I’m going to keep going that direction.
4 | New hair
Did you catch the new hairstyle in photos 8 & 9? It’s all thanks to my Hair Waver.
And wow, what a difference a new hairstyle makes on my overall aesthetic! Big, curly hair just adds this super laid-back vibe to my outfits.
Even better, I’ve discovered styling my hair this way actually works better the dirtier my hair is. So I can stretch an extra day or so between washes! Ideal for summer.
Since the Waver is a heat tool, I always use a heat protectant. The Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil is my fav. And once I’m finished curling it, I use Bumble and Bumble Thickening Airspun Texture Spray to give it more volume and to help the curl hold better.
Looking forward: I’m excited to continue playing with this curly style.

That means SO much to me, Mary! Thank you! <3
Thank you so much Mary! <3
Love this post. I just wanted to say the way you write is so gentle, smart, and soothing. It’s a breath of fresh air to read everything you write.
Thank you Ally, this means so much to me. <3
I love the curly look on you! Granted, I have curly hair so I am biased but it does really suit you!
Also wanted to say that I bought one of those body skimming tees from Abercrombie on your rec, and it was SO good that I went back and bought two more colors! Thank you!
Thanks Jessica! I’m really enjoying the curly look! And I’m so glad to hear you loved the Abercrombie tee — isn’t it great? So happy with mine.
In love w your (#7, #11) green (perfect green) poplin shirt — too bad Monrow doesn’t have them anymore in that color. Your jean jacket + black dress (#10) was my Covid lockdown dress-up outfit for outings like outdoor dining and wine tasting jaunts. In my case, it was a black rib knit skirt from Marine Layer, that I could wear in cool or warmer weather.
I’m so tempted to get the same Monica Vinader bracelet you wear. Lovely! Edgier but timeless.
I know, I was so bummed when I saw that Monrow sold out of the green color. BUT! They’ve always restocked that color, so I imagine it will be back soon! And yes, the Monica Vinader bracelet is SO GOOD. Highly recommend it!
I LOVE your wavy hair! Keep it up!
Thank you!
