Madewell has gone and done it! They’ve brought back the cross back tank!
I first fell in love with the cross-back tank in 2015, right when I was at that tender phase of being a new blogger, just trying to figure everything out. Madewell made a lovely striped top with this same cross back detail, and it was one of the first pieces that made me feel like a fashion blogger, like I belonged. It was such a special top to me. Fun fact: I still have it!
Since then, I’ve looked for tops with this kind of cross back, but with no luck.
Until just the other day, when I spotted this one at Madewell! Somehow it’s even better this time around since it’s 100% linen.
The linen is lightweight. The breezy, open back lets the air flow freely. It’s the kind of top that’ll keep you cool and comfortable on a sizzling summer day.
The fit is just right — it’s a little cropped, but not too much. It comes with a tack stitch on the back that’s meant to be cut. With the tack stitch in place, it definitely feels too tight around the chest. It can give the impression that it runs small, or that you’re wearing the wrong size, but most likely, the tack stitch just needs to be cut. I found it runs true to size.

Also, I can relate to how you feel about the top—I loved the back and really wanted to get it after seeing it on your blog (yup, long time reader here 😊) but Madewell didn’t ship internationally at the time. Hi Claire! With this top being white, I felt more comfortable wearing a strapless bra (mine is old and not available anymore, but I’ve linked a similar one below). I also got this Madewell top in black too and I plan to wear that one without a bra.
