I’m still squarely in my minimalist aesthetic era, but as the weather warms up, I feel this pull to add a bit of poetry and romance to my style.
Yes, poetry and romance. :)
And nothing does that quite like a dress — a Christy Dawn dress to be exact.
If you were around here in 2017-2018, you might remember how much I adored my Christy Dawn dresses back then. They slowly phased out of my regular rotation, but now, in 2023, I need a little Christy Dawn magic in my life again.
The Dawn dress was always a favorite of mine, so something about slipping into this familiar silhouette feels so good. It connects me to that past version of myself in this really lovely, full-circle kind of way.
And! They’ve made some nice changes to the Dawn dress design. It has pockets now! And many of them are machine washable now! (They used to be dry clean only, since they were made of deadstock fabric. But now that they are made of regenerative cotton, you can wash them at home. Make sure to double check the care info on the website — each colorway is different.)
This dress has the sweetest details, when you look closely. Subtle puff sleeves. A beautiful yoke at the shoulders. And while they do have many floral options, I went with simple black this time. Jane Austen vibes, but make it minimal.

As a huge Jane Austen fan, I love this look, Caroline! And I know what you mean about summer calling for a floaty, romantic dress–this is a great way to scratch that itch without going full cottagecore, I love it!
