Just put on a skirt.
I’ve gotten way into skirts lately because they’re so comfortable + they instantly make me look like I cared about my outfit 80% more than I did.
This particular skirt earns extra awesome points because it’s got a shirttail hem.
What does that mean? It’s curved up at the sides + longer in the back.
Why is that cool? It gives the illusion of longer looking legs, while keeping everything covered.
The key to wearing a shorter skirt like this one (and keeping it classy) is to pair it with flat shoes + a top that keeps you all covered up. I chose to go sporty + comfy with a pair of slip-on sneakers, and then I added coziness with a merlot toned knit sweater.
Ready for anything from errands to a friend hang out sesh.

That bag is perfection and I just love your idea of a minimalist wardrobe. I happen to be cleaning our master bedroom today. I think it’s time to put this into action! Thank you so much!!
Warmly,
Elizabeth
Adorable! I am so excited to see all this FALL everything :)
Question though. What is your philosophy (that might be a strong word lol) for your tote color choice? I know it is reversible, so do you use the cognac side to add interest, color or just to avoid being too matchy? The reason I ask is because I would naturally always use the black if I am wearing black, but I tend to be too matchy sometimes…so I like the idea of NOT matching too :)
Can you tell me if this skirt runs tts? I wondered if the waistband would allow me to downsize? And the shirt as well – did you size up for a more “relaxed” feel? Thanks so much! Just found your blog and am in love with every outfit you put together!
I love how you make basics look so fashionable but wearable at the same time!
Let’s talk about those slip-on sneakers… LOVE THEM! I think I’ll have to buy a pair for myself. Really liking this skirt, I’m interested in finding out if it’s true to size as well since Aritzia’s online return policy is a little strict.

I just picked up these sneakers & I can’t wait to wear them! :D
They were on sale @ DSW..I think regular $80, then marked down to $49.94, THEN half off of the marked down price!! I had birthday certificates for $15..so I paid a whopping total of $10.79 after tax…O Happy Day!!
Nice job! :)
Love this color combo. The cognac bag is such a gorgeous contrast and really polishes off the look. Lusting after every piece today, looks so comfy!
The hem on the skirt is so flattering, I love it! Great tip!

Love the tote!

Great outfit!
Yet again, love the simplicity, but you look pulled together. I often hear, “You’re dressed up” or something like that whenever I pull on a dress or skirt. The secret is: it’s so much easier than pants some days! And often more comfortable!
Such a gorgeous color in that top.
I’m such a lucky to find your blog! Please keep making all of us happy with your tips and style, it’s just incredibly helpful for those (and me!) who started thecapsulewardrobejourney. I’ve got a question though: does your husband also follow the capsule wardrobe principle? Right, I’d love to hear if there‘s a way for updating a male’s closet too..
Love all the colors that are happening in this outfit! I usually stray away from burgundy+black because I feel like it’s too dark, but this really, really works.
Yes, yes, yes!! I do the same “wear a skirt to look like I tried” trick! I feel so validated.
Also, I’m a new reader and am so impressed with your blog. As the owner of a Fair Trade Handbag boutique, it’s so nice to hear new ideas of ways to shop ethically (i.e. downsizing with intentionality so that I don’t just buy more later). And we’re both in ATX so you understand wearing summer dresses well into November : )
new to your blog and LOVING it. So, so great!!! I’m so sorry if you’ve answered this before but I’m curious what kind of camera/lens you use? Your photos are SO GOOD.
Hi, question about your top from AE. Have you had any pilling problems?
