I love wearing all black. But sometimes, wearing all black can look sad. And I don’t love looking sad.
So here’s what I do: I throw in a print! A peppy feather print to be more specific. To me, it feels crazy and daring (it calls for a second look to figure it out)… yet organic and subtle at the same time (the small scale pattern + B&W color scheme).
Also — short sleeves! I feel like anytime you can show some skin, it adds interest and warmth — especially to a monochromatic look.
The detailing in this top is killer, too. Don’t you love that white stripe running down the back? And the white peeking out at the bottom? That’s not an undershirt — it’s built into the shirt. Makes layering a piece of cake. A piece of layer cake. Oh gosh. I’m done now.

Looks great! Thanks for sharing. Your blog is so helpful and fun. Happy weekend!
Do you have each of the Moulton cuffs in every metal color? And could you share which exact stacking rings you’re wearing? I love the way you always accessorize and if you could even do a post in the future on all of your jewelry accessories and how you work your budget for that and how you accessorize each outfit, that would be SO helpful! Thank you!! You are such an inspiration!
Yes! All about the accessories!
You got the hat! It looks great! I am so inspired by this top, it’s fun and feminine without being, well, pink and girly! Might have to copy this look.
These tips are so helpful! I really love the look and can’t wait to use your advice. :)
This is Great, and SO helpful! You don’t look all-sad-black at all, you look fresh and stylish and approachable. Every time I go to NYC, I know they think they look chic in black turtlenecks/tees with black pants/skirts with black accessories/coats, but to me it feels like there must be a huge Italian funeral somewhere and Everybody’s going…or everyone dresses in fear of Not looking like everyone else, and that is one reason all-black looks so sad to me. In Paris a lot of people wear black basics but very few people wear head-to-toe black unless they really are going to a funeral; so even if most people on the street are wearing black basics, individual style and a little color abounds and everyone looks unique–like you today!
Ah! Love the shoes. And this is fabulous. I have a ton of black in my wardrobe. :)
Lovely top, Caroline! I have some similar boots by Jeffrey Campbell and have never thought to wear them without socks, so I will give that a try. As always, thanks for your stylish help!
You are ABSOLUTELY adorable! :)

Awesome blog. I’m in Australia so have the opposite season to you, but I love looking through your previous capsule wardrobes and pinching some ideas for my own one.
Thank you for sharing! I always want to wear all black because I just love it but even when I wear different materials, it usually isn’t the look I want to go for. I’m sure this will make it better!
I’m already loving your fall capsule! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with :)
