Aaron and I took part in one of our favorite Austin Christmas traditions this weekend — the Trail of Lights. It’s a 2 mile walk through Zilker Park with major Christmas light displays + kettle corn stands where a “small” is actually the size of a pillowcase. Usually, we’re bundled up to the max and kind of running through the trail because it’s so dang cold.
Not this year.
It was ridiculously warm this weekend. People were walking the Trail of Lights in t-shirts and shorts. The hot cocoa was too hot. And I — the girl who will wear a jacket with it’s 60ºF out — went jacketless.
It was awesome. We took our time and had a blast.
We also watched a bunch of Christmas movies, decorated Christmas cookies, went Christmas shopping, and strung up lights all over our apartment this weekend.
So in short: It may be warm outside, but we’re in full on Christmas mode over here. And to match that mode, this is my warm weather + Christmas spirit outfit.
What are some of your favorite holiday traditions?
Shirt: J.Crew (similar)
Bottoms: Gap (similar)
Shoes: Madewell (similar in a different color)
Bag: Marc Jacobs
Rings: Moulton

Love that hairdo! I usually dislike top knots but the bangs give it a different dimension.
I hear you on the unusual December weather. I am ready for real fall weather. It doesn’t feel very Christmas-y right now :( I enjoy your post today! I really love when you give us a sneak peek into what you do day-to-day or on weekends.
Sincerely, Tania
I live in Montana, and I was wearing short sleeves (it was right around 60* Fahrenheit) on Friday. Now it’s nice and snowy, though. :)
I love your blog! I can’t wait to open my e-mail to see your latest post. I am not young, tall, and lovely like you–I’m “older middle aged” , short, and have been blessed with never having a lack of food
I live in San Antonio so I’m feeling your pain with this warmer weather. I actually drove up to pflugerville this past weekend and it was cooler there than it was here. WTH weather?! Good news is (supposedly) we have a cold front coming our way. Fingers crossed for a cold Christmas!
You have inspired and challenged me to simplify (which resonates with my soul right now) and find my own style. Thanks for sharing! ( I am also obviously too wordy
LOVE this look! I have almost the exact same pieces too:) Can’t wait to see the winter capsule
XO, Gina
My favorite holiday traditions are Christmas tree trimming and baking cookies. This weekend we did both. My middler was sick with strep, but he supervised tree trimming from the couch. On Sunday he was feeling better and was the designated stirrer, while the eldest was the egg cracker. Before bedtime last night we had made 2 & a half dozen cookies. One dozen for the elder’s Boy Scout holiday party tonight, one dozen for the local children’s home, and a half a dozen for us to snack on.
I love your traditions! That is awesome that you do that for the local children’s home, I know that makes the children feel loved and special. Exactly what they need!! I want to hug you.
Lucky! I lived in Austin for five years, and those warm winter days were the BEST. Of course, now that I’m spending my first winter in Connecticut (and it isn’t even technically winter yet!), anything over 40 degrees constitutes as warm. It’s crazy what you get can get used to!
I’ve never experienced a white Christmas before, but I’d really like to! It seems to amp up the holiday spirit, or maybe I’m just hyping it up. I’ve been reading a lot of blog posts about decorating your home for Christmas though, so when I get home from college, maybe I can add a little Christmas magic to the house! Or heck, I should just decorate my dorm room too! Anyways, I love your hairstyle here :) -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey’s
Hi Caroline! I just wanted to pop in to finally leave a note. I look forward to checking your blog every day for more inspiration. There’s something special about how you organize and put everything together. It sings to me. :) Keep it comin’! (I’m excited to see how you bring that special something’ to your guest bloggers in the new year. It’s going to be fun.)
Love your hair!
Here in Poland we’ve been experiencing some super rainy days lately and if it weren’t for the (oh so lovely, my boyfriend’s and mine first together) Christmas tree in our apartment I wouldn’t feel like Christmas is coming at all… Next weekend I’m off to Berlin to chase the Christmas spirit at their amazing Christmas markets, but I’m crossing every finger and toe to have just a bit of snow for Christmas!
We had a similar weekend! Baked Christmas cookies, played ridiculous Christmas music while making presents for the fam – ever since I was little, I have always made/crafted Christmas gifts!

I’ve been following your blog for about 6 weeks now and this is my favourite look of yours so far! You look beautiful with your hair up and actually slimmer in flat shoes than you do in high ones – I think it’s because you can see how slim your ankles are.
I live in Brighton, UK, and we put our Christmas tree up yesterday – it’s too big but I can’t admit that to my family who just love it!!
You look beautiful. =)
Your hair is simply fabulous as is your style. Love this blog!
I love how your top knot looks with your bangs! Top knots don’t look right on me, I have to stick with mid or low buns. ;)
Great outfit as always. Looking forward to seeing the Winter Capsule!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for being un-fancy. I’ve been working on my winter capsule and often come across capsules that are geared for work-wear, which doesn’t apply to my lifestyle, so thanks for keeping it simple in many ways! :) Happy those ideas are there for others, but so happy to have found your site for inspiration!
Your hair is SO CUTE like this!!! Also, loving this outfit. On point.

Well, here in Oz, it’s not Christmas unless it’s searingly hot! In fact, by our standards here on the west coast, it’s been a little mild this December. I love the outdoors traditions the most – there are lots of Carols by Candlelight gatherings in parks happening every weekend and there’s nothing quite like a quick dip at the beach on Christmas morning!
(LOVE the hair, by the way. Especially in this pic. Just gorgeous!)
LOVE the bangs with the top knot! Wish I could pull that off as well as you do. Gotta love the holiday season :)
Wow, your hair is gorgeous!
I love this top! I’ll be storing it in my mind for the cooler months! Currently soooo hot here in Aus! So I like to have a look at your summer capsule as well!
I love this outfit. The image of it is now engrained into my retinas as I have been sitting at home in the UK for the past 10 hours hitting refresh hoping for the winter wardrobe! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease! :)
Your hair looks adorable! So glad I stumbled upon your blog this summer. I’m currently working on my 2nd capsule and am just loving this new way of approaching what I wear and how I shop. Thanks for being an inspiration!
Unfancy was featured in Michelle Phan’s youtube video today!! You go girl!
I’ve been” into” both stripes and plaid for months now, dear Caroline…but this red and grey shirt is positively delicious!! And absolutely perfect for the holiday season…although I’m sure it will be seeing regular wear well into springtime, too!! P.S. Bangs and topknot = adorable!!
