10x10 Wardrobe Challenge, fall outfits, Outfits: Fall, remix series

fall remix / outfit 4

09/23/16

fall-4054fall-4056fall-4055fall-4057

We made it! Friday, hello!

Remember this post about my friend Anuschka and her upcoming book, The Curated Closet? Well it’s officially out now! It’ll inspire you to take on all kinds of closet projects, so if that sounds fun this weekend, you can grab your copy here.

Okay, outfit time.

Styling notes:

Tie your button down at the waist / You probably remember this shirt from outfit one, but in this outfit, I styled it in a much more feminine way — to me it gives off a totally different vibe now. I gave my shirt a more tailored, feminine feel by tying it at the waist, creating a more fitted, cropped silhouette for this usually boxy shirt.

Roll your sleeves / An easy roll of the cuff creates a cap-sleeve effect, furthering the feminine vibe.

Add a floppy hat / I added this hat because I liked the way the it took the feminine vibe even further. How many times can I say feminine vibe in this post?

Balance femininity with masculinity in your outfit / While most of today’s styling notes are about adding femininity to an outfit, the black jeans temper it with a just a bit of edge, plus the stripes give a nod to classic menswear.

So, how’s your remix going? I’d love to hear what you’re learning from it — what’s your main takeaway so far? Have you read The Curated Closet yet?

Tomorrow I’ve got a double feature post for you, with not one, but two outfits. So, see you tomorrow for outfits five + six!

    Hey Caroline!

What mark would you give that outfit?

I found it really interesting, when you talk about it!

Hey Marta, I’d give it a C as it is. It looks cool and is comfortable and functional. But I think it’d be more my everyday style if I swapped the heels for my black flats and lost the hat — in that case I’d give it an A. :) xo, Caroline

You’re too harsh – you look great! I’m a big fan of those feminine vibes ;) But swaping heels for black flats and perhaps trying with black accesorizes would make a stellar outfit too!

I love your button down top! Tying them at the waist is one of my favorite tricks for switching up an outfit.

Lovely outfit, but from my point of view (It’s below 60 in montreal) it is more summery than fall. (I can’t imagine wearing shoes without socks past labor day… and sometimes I don’t make it till then! lol!)

In Texas where Caroline lives (me too) it’s still pushing 90+ degrees :( I wish I lived in Montreal, below 60 sounds nice! But it still feels like summer here in the south. That’s why she has said that she is dressing for a realistic fall in Texas not fantasy fall! :)

I’m with you, Gen! I live in park city, Utah and we got snow today so our fall is a lot like other places’ winters. But I’m loving the fall vibe of these outfits even though they are worn in hot temperatures.

Hi Gen! Yes, as Lauren said it is still hot in Texas and I’m trying to dress for the weather we are having and not for “fantasy fall” (as I wrote about here: http://www.un-fancy.com/outfits/fall-outfits/fall-remix-series-10-pieces-x-10-outfits/) Thanks for checking in! :) xo, Caroline

I’ve been a long time reader (since before the hiatus) and your style has been very influential on the evolution of mine. I adore the simplicity, class and clean lines of your style. So I have to admit, you are loosing me on today’s outfit… I don’t quite get it, and given the brevity of the styling notes, I am not convinced you are really loving it yourself… Staying positive, though, maybe it’s one of the How Fascinating moments:)

I trust you will take the feedback in the loving spirit that it’s given, and won’t let it discourage you. Keep up the creativity!

One last note I’ve been meaning to ask, if you could consider increasing the contrast between the font and the background, it would be helpful as it comes through very faint and hard to read on some mobile devices.

I have the same font problem!! The find shows as gray, very faint, and it’s really tough to read. I still do, since I love the blog, but it would be so much easier and more pleasurable if the font were darker. Thanks!

Your outfits are adorable. And I love your blog! I’m a stay at home mom and struggle with keeping motivation to ”get dressed” everyday. I tend to save all my cute clothes and never wear them! How do you motivate yourself to dress cute and comfy even if you are just going to be around the house?

Caroline, I love your hat! And almost bought one from World Market but I just can’t figure out where I would wear it. Where do you plan to wear your hat? I guess I feel insecure in it therefore wouldn’t know where to wear it!

Hey Lauren! I can see how — if you’re not used to wearing a hat — it could be hard to get used to. I wear mine mostly for function. When it’s hot, it works as sun protection. And when it’s cold, it keeps my head warm. So when I think about it that way, it makes me less self conscious to wear it out and about — running errands, lunch with friends, etc. :) xo, Caroline

I am loving The Curated Closet! Yesterday I filled up an entire sheet of printer paper with a “things I like” list (like on page 66). I’m a visual learner, so it’s so helpful just to jot these things down and start to see my style come through. Can’t wait to pour through the rest (and see outfits 5 and 6 tomorrow!)

I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to wear the same Madewell shirt since I bought it a few weeks ago – tying it is such a cute idea! I love your daily updates, they give me so much inspiration since I have a lot of the same/similar pieces in my closet.

Hi Caroline I love your blog and your style !
Maybe it’s already on the blog but I didn’t find it : how do you organize your clothes, do you use a wardrobe ? a clothes rack ? a chest of drawers ? I’d love to see it, because you’re very organised and it’s very inspiring. I love the idea of a clothes rack but I’m a little bit afraid of dust.
Thanks a lot and all the best !! (and sorry for my english)

Caroline! I’m glad you’re back to OOTD posts; I actually was getting nostalgic for them and thus have been digging in your 2014 archives (when your sense of style aligned more with mine) for inspiration.

What would make me super happy is to see your full 10×10 laid out like when you’d do your seasonal capsules BEFORE you start mixing them. Right now these are just a bunch of random outfit posts that make it seem like you have an infinite amount of resources for dressing (since we haven’t seen the same thing twice, yet). I totally get that you’re going for the surprise factor, but as a reader it’s hard to follow along. For me I’m a visual person: I’d like to see it all laid out, be counting along and crossing things off the layout as you wear them, and then get worried for you (oh no she’s out of clothes whatever shall she do?!) and have MY OWN “HOW FASCINATING” MOMENT! :D when I see how you mix things together. :)

I hope you’ll consider this for future months.

Lovely outfit! You have inspired me to get out my felt fedora that I bought last autumn and hardly wore. I am also stealing the idea of putting a drawstring inside to make it fit snugly – it was a bit breezy today.

We are still warm here in the UK 20°C+ (70s) so it’s quite easy to transpose your style ideas. I just add covered trainers/boots and an extra layer of thin jacket/knit for the chilly mornings. Thin raincoat and rainboots for if it’s wet.
