Good morning, friends.
Two quick things:
1 / SOMETHING TO READ
This week, you guys. Oof. The election, the aftermath, all of it. It’s a lot to take in.
Even though it may seem small or like it’s not enough, I can’t think of anything more helpful than practicing compassion and empathy with our fellow humans right now.
But how? How do we do that in a tangible way?
Leo Babauta gives us the answer: A guide to cultivating compassion in your life.
2 / SOMETHING TO LISTEN TO
Nothing helps me process through my feelings like music. So I thought I’d share one of my favorite playlists with you.
It’s mostly instrumental, ambient music — the type of music you’d hear during a yoga class. But it’s got a positive, hopeful vibe. It’s quiet, but not sad. You can listen to it here on Spotify.

Want to see more ways to style this sweater? Here you go:
- Paired with a midi dress
- Paired with cutoffs and sneakers for a Texas fall day
- Paired with most of the pieces you see here, but with a bit of a dressier vibe
Sending so much love to you.

Always love the outfits you put together. Today, I downloaded your Spotify list…it’s lovely. Im praying we can come together as a nation, hoping for brighter tomorrows and holding peace in my heart. Listening to playlist will help. Grateful and thank you…
Thank you for posting, Caroline. We’ll get through this.
Oh, look forward to listening to your playlist. Sending love from the UK, we have had our own political fallout with the Brexit vote. It left a lot of antagonism. This whole year has been… as you say oof.
Here’s to compassion and empathy.
I’m not a fan of too many clothing blogs. Most seem pretty superficial and I’m always left wanting a little more. I’ve always enjoyed un-fancy because it dives a little deeper. What I wear can impact how I feel about myself, but it’s important to ask how we can feel good about ourselves outside of clothing and looks. I appreciate you ask those questions. Your focus isn’t always just about the outfits or the most instagram-ready photo — it’s about gratitude and finding the good in the world. Thanks for this little post today, it was a good one.
Based on your playlist, give Tycho a listen (if you haven’t already). I think you’ll really enjoy this album.
Yes! Tycho is amazing and so therapeutic. Definitely a good listen for this crazy time.
xo, Marie
Thanks, love it!!!
Caroline, you are a sweet soul. I cherish your blog everyday. Thank you! xo
Practicing compassion is a great way to make a change in the world. I’m hoping for the best and a smooth transition of power.

Thank you for the link on empathy. I desperately needed a reminder in the aftermath of this election. It’s something I’m struggling with, when it comes to people who voted different than I did, and are celebrating right now. We will make it through, but in the mean time, compassion and kindness will go a long way.
You read my mind, I’ve been compiling a playlist to share with friends to help us cope as well. Music is so therapeutic in times like these. Thank you for sharing, I can’t wait to listen!
Love your Spotify list! Following!
It’s a perfect black skinnies and boots day in Montana!
Thanks for the peaceful music and, as always, the very casual understated clothing you inspire us with.
Really like Spotify……….thanks for sharing that! The music is very peaceful and healing.
Loving that denim jacket. Need it. Downloading your play list. This was a great post- very empathetic and balanced. Thanks!
Absolutely love your outfit as per usual and what a nice post after all that has happened in america especially in the time when people feel like the may need a little hope in the world

Thank you thank you for the playlist- I’ve had crazy anxiety all week and this is helping a lot.
Thank you for saying all the right things WITHOUT getting political. I appreciate that.
Thanks for sending out love. It’s the only thing comforting right now. I’m feeling so much uncertainty about our country that i haven’t felt in a long time.
And love the casual, stylish outfit….. what is more comforting than a denim jacket?
Thank you! This is appreciated and wonderfully worded. It was a rough, rough week (more like year…), but we all need this reminder to stop giving each other the stink-eye, start healing, and try to move forward together, as impossible as that may sometimes feel.
Love your jeans! That article about finding compassion was amazing too

Can you do a recap of all the unfancy ways you live Caroline? Day in the life. I’d love to know what an unfancy Tuesday looks like in your unfancy clothes. :)
Also, go relisten to Kokomo by The Beach Boys. It was the only song I could think of the day after that could take me away from this new political climate. Still calms me when I feel elsewise. :)
Hey Jan, I actually have some “day-in-the-life” type stuff on my to-do list. I’ll keep working on it! :)
I would love to see what you might wear to special occasions that aren’t super formal (such as a baby or bridal shower, and even funerals). Always enjoy your outfits!
Hi Christy, thanks for the input! I’ll add that to my post ideas :)
The jean jacket is awesome! I’ve been looking for a new one as, since I got pregnant and gave birth to my beautiful son almost 4 months ago, I don’t fit in mine anymore! Who would have thought pregnancy could give you enlarged shoulders, haha.
Levi’s makes really nice jean jackets that are made with less water and recycled denim, for less than $60.
This is such a lovely post, thank you!

Thank you for being more than a clothing blog. You so often find the right words.
Hubba Hubba! Looking fab :D
Love your blog and fashion advice. Im in my 50’s and get so much out of your posts. Even if I’m happy about the election result, I hurt for all the pain I see. I pray we can all come together. Thanks for your inspiring and beautiful posts.
Beautiful pictures <3
Thank you so much for this playlist, Caroline! I have been so overwhelmed, and this playlist is fantastic. I look forward to more!!
