It’s sweater weather!!
Well, not really in Texas yet, but Aaron and I are headed to Seattle today, to visit my sis and brother in law. So naturally, I’ve been planning sweater-y outfits all week. EXCITING. STUFF.
And as far as sweater-y outfits are concerned, this one is an instant win.
THE COLOR PALETTE
I’m just going to be a little proud for a moment and pat myself on the back for how this whole whole grey, cognac, and black color palette turned out here.
All the accessories share that cognac color — but the reason it really works is because there are three cognac pieces, not just two, like a typical bag and shoe situation.
Taking note for the future. Three accessories, all in one neutral color = one really put together outfit.
First, this sweater is soft. Like really soft. It’s got a zipper detail on the sides, which I don’t really care about, but I do care that the zipper is lined with fabric — meaning I never feel a cold zipper bumping up against me throughout the day. YAY.
Second, it’s got a drapey, slouchy fit that I freaking love. In fact, I sized up to get an even slouchier fit. This means that there’s no clinging around the stomach area — instead it’s just drape, drape, drape.
Third, it feels well-made, like I don’t need to coddle it. The fabric is a little fuzzy, but I wore it with my black jeans and there was little to no shedding going on. I’m guessing it’s going to pill after a few runs in the washing machine (because exciting stuff, it’s machine washable too), but I’ve got to be honest, pilling isn’t a deal breaker for me. I can always just grab my little defuzz/depill comb and eliminate pills in a snap.
(I’m also about to try this battery operated fabric shaver to see if it’s better than my comb. I’ll let you know how it goes. Have you ever used one?)
It’s rainy and chilly in Seattle, so first things first, I’m going to throw a no-show base layer underneath.
Look! Functional layering! Bit by bit I am going to figure out how to dress for cold weather, you guys. :)
Right now, my base layer is just a simple cotton tank. I’m interested in getting this tank from Smartwool for extra warmth, but I’m also open to suggestions from you layering pros out there.
Finally, I’m going to toss on a rain resistant jacket with a hood, and I’m all set for the day in Seattle. :)
