Happy Friday!
I’ve been making some serious playlists lately for our road trip. Yep, you guessed it. We’re road tripping up to Seattle instead of flying — partially because we’ll get to explore some cool places, partially because our sweet puppy is old and he might not do so well on a plane.
So with a long road trip on the horizon, we’re in need of some seriously good music. I thought I’d share a couple of my work-in-progress playlists with you:
Hipster Hype / upbeat and heavy on the synth
Indie Yoga / chill beats
Patio Dinners / a little bit 70’s, a little bit indie pop, all with a vintage feel
Got any great Spotify playlists to swap? Link to ’em in the comments!

Hi Caroline,
i follow your blog for quite a while now and i like it very much.
Thank you for taking the car with your puppy. My husband and i own a dog ourself, Artos ist now twelve years old. We do always roadtrips with him and traveld quite a bit of europe that way. Artos is a tough guy, but we would never put him in a box and on a plane.
So to read, that you take equally care of your dog is a pleasure for me.
Greetings from Germany
Heike
Here’s my design party playlist: https://open.spotify.com/user/1225619671/playlist/4iY9BzccMza6IvmQ7HWQDr
and my dinner party one is a lot of fun, too! https://open.spotify.com/user/1225619671/playlist/0zD4zXy6rcIstKHtJLziO1
You might like hiatus kiayote ( from Melbourne, Australia) my fav track is Nakamarra about the Australian desert. It’s jazzy, soulful and funky. The kinda song you put on repeat til you learn the words. Love it!
Not my own playlist, but I do enjoy this “Have a Great Day!” playlist by spotify at work when I need a pick-me-up– there’s a whole day’s worth of music and it’s full of wonderfully cheesy oldies and pop hits: https://play.spotify.com/user/spotify/playlist/2PXdUld4Ueio2pHcB6sM8j
I love that playlist!
It’s not a playlist, but I highly recommend Amy Poehler’s autobiography audiobook- even if you don’t love her (I didn’t before I listened)- she reads the audiobook & it’s funny and heart-warming and interesting. It would be a great way to break up the trip differently (audiobook vs. music). If not that one, I still recommend an audiobook for some part of your trip. You can even buy them at Cracker Barrel & return at a different location less $3.49/week– great for road trips!
Oh I forgot you have a dog! Seattle is SO dog friendly, it’s great! Some of my favorite dog parks are Marymoor park, it’s huge! It is not completely fenced in so if your guy is a runner, beware. We also love Magnuson, it has a fun beach area, and a separate small dog area. Dr. Jose Rizal park isn’t a great dog park per say, but the view from there is so pretty! So excited for you guys!!!
My boyfriend is music-obsessed. After a month of asking for one, he made me a playlist of almost-all new-to-me music!
https://play.spotify.com/user/noahgordoncurtis/playlist/3kkO0ZwZAktXk1br3AXuWI
If you drive through Arizona, you need to stop in Tucson! It’s kinda like Austin’s awkward younger adolescent sibling and I’m sure you would love it here. :)
Super Awesome Mix Vol. 1 from Guardians of the Galaxy is always on rotation in my car! Love it so much.
I just moved cities road-trip style with my man and pup too! If you haven’t already listened to the Serial podcast you should, it took us from Salt Lake City to Portland :)
Sappy/upbeat (probably needs a little update): https://open.spotify.com/user/1220195689/playlist/6g2bUFK1hU2VkUqCdeMvAc
Slightly more moody music I especially love in the fall: https://open.spotify.com/user/1220195689/playlist/42Ae9AtGTWUra8EwdTiOPs
Road tripping is the best! You are going to have so much fun! (Are you coming through Montana? I might be able to give you some recommendations for restaurants and local attractions and stuff.)
I love your Spotify Playlists. I had your Anthro Holiday Party on a continuous loop this holiday season. Thank you for more music and congrats on your new adventure. I also really enjoy the Marine Layer lists, spotify:user:marinelayershirts, Refinery 29 spotify:user:refinery29 and the NPR Austin 100 spotify:user:tdstone:playlist:5ne4Bgw196NcT7kXPqLBgd
I’m so excited for your new adventure! (And selfishly, I’m so excited to see outfit ideas and a capsule that are relevant to the climate in Vancouver!)
Congratulations on your move to the PNW! I was pleasantly surprised to read the exciting news on your blog a couple days ago. I’m also a Seattle transplant and blogger; I’ve been living here with my fiancé and whippet mix for the past 2 years.
I’m sure your husband’s family will have plenty of local tips and tricks for you, but if you’re interested in suggestions for food, shopping, or recreation, feel free to drop me a line!
As for road trip tunes, Noon Pacific has a Coachella mix tape that’s pretty diverse (http://www.noonpacific.com/coachella/?hc_location=ufi). I also like listening to podcasts on road trips because they can be a little more engaging. Backstory is a great US History podcast (http://backstoryradio.org/) and How Stuff Works is always a delight (http://shows.howstuffworks.com/).
Love that scarf! I don’t have Spotify (I know, I’m old school), but I actually really love the Pandora station called Road Trip.

I love this idea! One of my most favorite exercises in self reflection + music has been to craft a playlist that sums up my musical preferences over the past decade. 10 songs for 10 years. It definitely drums up nostalgia, and takes you back to the moment you listened to X because you were angsty, or Y because you were in love. Super personal and a lot of fun! Plus it challenged me to go through a bunch of old CDs from High School and college. :)
Yay! I love sharing music on Spotify! I’ve decided music sharing is a love language. I’m listening to your yoga playlist now and it’s awesome. Here is a fun, upbeat road trip playlist –
https://open.spotify.com/user/stphniebarr/playlist/5DDEmJZms95UBbR00eYwtG
This is my summer road trip playlist. Kicks off with Talking Heads’ “Road to Nowhere” (’cause how could it not?) then it’s several hours of my favorite feel-good summer-y songs. https://open.spotify.com/user/punkydoodle/playlist/4S4XW5twSqmr6HTXIwh8Qz
I will be in Portland/Seattle in July! My boyfriend and I are renting a Volkswagen van to road trip around the PNW region for a week before boarding an Alaskan cruise, so the answers to this post will be very helpful for us too!!
I know you mentioned Spotify, but my top two Pandora stations are Tusk Radio (think Fleetwood Mac, CCR, Eagles – had it on all night for a party and have never gotten so many comments and compliments about anything in my life) and Classic Soul BBQ Radio (Etta James, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Soul Man). You can’t find that one through the genres – but if you type it in the search window you can get to it. I promise, you won’t stop shakin’ it!
I am music challenged… but I bet I would love your kinda music… Seattle seems like a fun place to live, probably a lot more green than Austin I’m guessing… love this outfit!
Your Hipster Hype playlist is AMAZING! I have been listening to it at work all day
Cute outfit! Hmm I don’t really have a good road trip playlist….I’ve got a ton of jazz play lists but wouldn’t want you to fall alseep behind the wheel…. Have a great trip

Loving the playlists! And all the best with your move, your enthusiasm is contagious :)
Have you ever tried Songza? Basically, it’s an online app where you choose what activity you’re currently doing (cleaning, exercising, drive across the country, etc.) and it pulls up several playlists that correspond to the activity! For example, I’m studying for a physics test right now (although not really, because here I am on Bloglovin’ again), and it’s playing some soothing “Coffee Shop Indie”. Songza = lifesaver when it comes to finding music.
Glad to see another Songza fan! It totally deserves more praise/notice that it gets… I rarely talk to anyone who is familiar with it! I think it’s one of the best ways to discover new music.
Another fan of Songza here too! Their playlists are actually curated by music nerds and they change the music up fairly often. They have such great titles too like “Girl, Hold my Earrings” or “Three Martini Lunch with Roger” :)
Music is my love language… I’ve followed a few of your playlists in the past months, and I have to say you have excellent taste!
My playlist for flying… perfect for cloud gazing if you’re lucky enough to score a window seat. Although I totally listen to it even when I’m not traveling ;) https://play.spotify.com/user/janamusselwhite/playlist/0GSOgfwmL4MeR0jUySOLAz
I need to tell that your current wardrobe is incredible and so close to what I wanna achieve with mine. Especially the colours you’re using.
Wow! I love making playlists on Spotify. You can check it here:

Hope you find something interesting. Currently, I’m listening to your ‘Hipster Hype’. Love it!
There’s a lot of sites and online apps which contain plenty of great playlists. You can try 8tracks.com, Stereomood, Musicovery ot Thesixtyone… :)
Not a Spotify playlist, but a free downloadable mini mix of summery, upbeat deep house that I made as part of my 100 project to learn how to mix – I was really happy with how it turned out: https://soundcloud.com/labrunette/tina-mairi-day-86-mix
love your scarf!

Love this look of a statement scarf with a casual chic outfit! And the lace-up sandals is absolutely gorgeous too!

Hey Caroline, I love the versatility of your capsule wardrobes- and that Madewell scarf is perfection. How is the texture? Is it scratchy/rough?
