This whole tie-it-around-your-waist thing? I’m digging it.
Although … it does remind me of the days when I would wear a neon, multicolored wind suit to school, get too hot in the afternoon, and tie my jacket around my waist. I basically spent my childhood in wind suits like this.
Anyone else?
I remember thinking they were so comfortable and convenient. I have vague memories of explaining their brilliance to other kids: “…then if you get too hot, you can just take off the jacket!”
Please tell me I’m not the only one who wore these. Let’s reminisce together.
Tank: old from J.Crew (similar)
Plaid Shirt: Madewell
Jeans: old from Madewell (similar)
Booties: old from Sam Edelman (similar-ish and awesome)
Bag: ONA
Bracelet: Madewell (on sale)
Oh lordy, those wind suits. I wore them a lot as a kid also. I was always tall for my age so at one point in 5th grade (unbeknownst to me!!) my mother bought my newest wind suit in the boys section…the colors were blue and white so I wore it with no problems. Until one day a boy in my class came to school wearing the same exact outfit…my mother explained what had happened and I never wore it again! Back in the day when boys were ‘icky’ ☺️
YES. The swish swish swish as you walked down the hall!
Soooo not the only one ;) and i had super ginormous headbands to boot…ahh good times
Not sure if I had the whole track suit but I totally rocked a neon pink and yellow jacket in 6 th grade!

I love the shirt tied around the waist look. However, I just can’t make it work for me/still can’t get childhood out of my head! Looks adorable on you! And let’s be honest- it’s practical too!
I unfortunately have far too many school photos of me in those wind suits. I had a purple pair that were siccccccccccccc
If you love a good wind suit you need to watch “Eagle V. Shark”. Awesome movie, super awkward, tons of wind suits.
I strategically always wore my windsuit when playing on the slide- it made you go so fast!
Bahahaha! Guilty! I rocked a wind suit and side pony (with a matching scrunchie) like nobody’s business. : )
I had a Catholic school uniform as a kid, so those wind jackets were the only “self-expression” pieces we had. I had a pink and green one! That, and our choice of scrunchies and beaded hair accessories.
I loved wearing wind suits as a kid!! The swishing and the comfy-ness really appealed to me.
When I was in high school everyone was all about those velour suits. They used to tie those around their waist too. They made me feel like I was in some kind of care bear cult. One time when I spilled a drink on my white jeans a friend gave me a pair of her juicy pants, and said I could keep them because they didn’t fit her. This was like 10 years ago, and I still have them and wear them around the house. I do think its funny when I clean in $90 sweatpants.
this is my favorite comment ever.
Just managed to snag the blue plaid when it came back from being sold out momentarily. Yahoo! When I first saw it I wasn’t sure yet and by the time I was ready to buy the flannel it was too late. I haven’t really felt the need to flesh out my capsule wardrobe this season (I have a solid fall wardrobe that will be useful for moving to Alaska in a month or so. Alaska coastal summer is like perfect fall weather). But this plaid and a pair of leather sandals have been my two spring additions.
Always a sad day if you snagged your wind suit on the playground ;)
Oooh girl, not only did I have a windsuit, but I was the cute little girl in the oversized black and red hand-me-down running around the backyard. It was great until I looked back and wondered who the third boy in the pictures with my brothers was. Oh, childhood.

Wind suits ftw! Perfect for children and adults alike, for the best family portraits. :)
PS We’re so glad to see that the Palma satchel is still in your capsule!
Cheers,
The ONA team
Love this outfit! I have recently found your blog and I love the idea of the capsule wardrobe. I am going away on a round the world trip soon so I will definitely be using your capsule wardrobe as inspiration for my packing nightmare of 1 bag for 3 climates! I will be blogging about my trip at BethSophie.com so please feel free to check it out if you get a chance :) x
Hi. New reader here. I was referred here by apartment therapy. Pardon if this is said somewhere, perhaps you can pin point where on your blog, but is blogging your job? The reason I ask is I love this idea of a capsule wardrobe, I’ve been looking to simplify my life. But I need an office attire capsule wardrobe. I can’t seem to find it on your blog. If anyone can point me to it, that would be great! Thank you!
There was a couple of guest bloggers on here recently who were fantastic too. JustJaq mostly did office wear.

Ugh! forgive my double post and my idiocy. Found it. Can you do an office attire capsule wardrobe or point me to the direction of a blogger that does? Thank you!
I think I had a black, neon green, and bright pink wind suit that my grandma bought for me. But I hated it. Couldn’t stand the crinkly, swishy noise. Even now, thinking about it makes me cringe.
I love this outfit! I’m so bummed that flannel is sold out though…let us know if you find a similar one!
And YES the wind suits. My sister wore them more but I definitely sported the jacket.
You’re gonna want that cute flannel ON here in Seattle. Plus a jacket. It’s a wet, chilly 52 degrees today.
Um… I’m pretty sure that pictured windsuit IS my old one. I had one that was that hideous teal color with stripes on the sleeve. WHAT was my 11 year old self thinking?
haha those days practicality was key, these days, fashion overcomes practicality! ;)
I couldn’t figure out what a wind suit was. Thanks for the picture!
We called them Parachute pants / trackies in Australia. God, they were hideous!
If you ever get a chance to view the original Aussie version of Kath & Kim, these suits make an appearance. As do knitted jumpers with bobbly bits on them and gumnut earrings. Oh so classy!!
I just can’t do the shirt around the waist thing. It reminds me of when I would get my period at school and would wear my jacket around my waist to hide any stain. Not good memories! You rock it though!!
Weird question, but how do you wear your undergarments with white tanks? Do you just accept that it will show through and move on, or do you choose light colored tops that are opaque enough that won’t show through? Maybe I’m overthinking the whole thing…
I used to love wearing wind suits to class, even if they did make everyone stare at you if you were late to class because of all the noise you made! The cheerleaders in our school loved wearing their wind suits, even on non-practice days.
