I’m soaking up all the warmth I can while we’re still in Texas. Yesterday was sunny and warm and I spent a large part of the day outside, just loving it. I know it sounds crazy, but I’m going to miss Texas in the summer. It’s hot as hell, but I don’t know … I grew up with it and I like it.
Even still, I can’t wait to experience a Seattle summer. I’m curious how I’ll feel about it — if I’ll like it so much that I’ll want to stay longer, or if I’ll be ready to get back to Texas. Either way I’m excited about a summer where it’ll be pleasant to do outdoor activities besides swimming. :)
This is going to seem like the most random question, but I’ve always been fascinated by weather and I’m curious: Are you a hot weather person or cold weather person? And do you think it has anything to do with where you grew up?

Cold weather! For sure! Not sure if it’s my body or a childhood in Connecticut. I like rain. I much prefer winter to a humid summer. It’s funny, though, we’re considering a move to Southern California (from NYC) and I’m kind of excited about the idea of all-the-time sunny. As much as I like cold February always almost breaks me, and skipping one of those winter cycles…intriguing. Still and all, I’m also really scared and almost-balking.
I’m also from Connecticut and I’m totally a warm weather girl! I don’t mind the humidity in the summer (although hot without the humidity is better). I hate winter and snow. I just moved my family to Virginia and I’m loving the warmer spring!
I’m a cold weather person for sure! Fall and Winter are my favorite. I hate Spring and Summer. I can’t stand to be hot at all. I usually hibernate in the summer because I can’t stand to be hot. What spring does for most people fall does for me. I feel refreshed when fall comes and depressed when spring comes. I’m totally backward!!! I’m in WI where our summers are usually hot and humid which is the worst. Hot and dry might not be as bad but I’d probably still hibernate. So for me I’m counting down the days until fall is here. It’s going to be a long 6 months!
I’m definitely a cold weather person. Don’t get me wrong, I love a hot, sunny day, but I’m happiest bundled on a crisp Fall day. Oh, and I’m from Seattle. :) Our cold days aren’t crazy cold though and our summers are quite nice and warm. I’m curious to see what you think of the weather while you’re there. I love it, rain and all!
Arkansas and warm weather all the way!
I am definitely a cold weather person. Everything above 75 degrees fahrenheit really annoys me and sweating is for me much worse than feeling cold. At least for me I don’t think it’s related to where I grew up – we have snow in winter and hot weather in summer here in Germany and I prefer winter. But I also have not experienced an extreme northern winter, so maybe that’ll change my mind :)
I’ve lived in Pennsylvania pretty much all my life. It is the perfect place to experience all four seasons without either the cold of winter or the heat of summer being too extreme. And, I am in the minority here, but I prefer winter over summer! I love the cold weather for bringing the holidays, snow, and coziness. I love the hot drinks and layers of warm clothes and shorter days. I love the anticipation of winter weather in the forecast and the chance of school and work being canceled and being snowed in. I love all the snuggling that the cold temperatures necessitate.
I grew up just north of Toronto, Ontario and I LOVE the warm weather, although it really doesn’t last long enough. Winters really get me down, and our winters are BRUTAL. The season is FINALLY changing to spring and man does it feel good. I don’t think anyone can truly appreciate the changing of this season like people who have to go through really cold and snowy winters do! The ocean and warmth are calling my name though, I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up living somewhere warm, at least for a bit :)
As always, great outfit!
I’ve recently found your blog and IG through Lee at Style Bee. Love your style and perspective on life. My goal this year was minimalism, so it’s great to have good company.
I grew up in New York and love our 4 seasons. I get tired of the snow but that’s just part of the deal. I lived in Atlanta for a few years and the intense heat was hard to adjust to. What was even harder was warm, snowless holidays.
Anyways, best wishes on your move to Seattle. I think you’ll love it ❤️
I somehow end up mentioning the weather n all of my posts- I think about it all the time! I check the weather at least twice a day, partially because it’s storm season and partially to check whether or not my outfit is suddenly rendered inappropriate due to the weather. My dad is a weatherman, so that’s probably why! I grew up in Kansas, where the summer is just as hot but a few weeks shorter and the winter is cold as and it makes me miserable. I am definitely a hot weather person. I would rather it be hot outside because at least you can go inside to cool down, whereas when it’s cold the only thing I can do to get really warm is take a hot shower or wear an old man sweater and sweatpants! I think I might have a slight case of seasonal affect disorder, I think the cold weather really gets me down. Spring seriously feels like a transformative time not just because of the blooming trees and flowers (how is Texas already done with that?) but because I’m no longer avoiding being outside. I moved to Texas almost 2 years ago and the short winters have made me fall in love with this state. I can’t imagine you’ll miss the hot summer living in Seattle, but I’m sure you’ll miss our 3 weeks of winter!

I like a good old-fashioned 70 degrees. But in reality, I like warm weather and only like cold weather for one day…then ready for hot again. (In other words, I can’t abide cold weather.) Since I grew up and live in Florida (with 17 years in the Carolinas in the middle), my blood is thin and I get freezing cold so easily. Even in summer, restaurants here cater to the Snowbirds, so I have to always bring a sweater.
I LOVE THIS OUTFIT! This works really well for your figure. And to answer your question … I’m a “fair weather” person? But I’d much prefer a really hot day to a really cold day. Around these parts, though (Central PA), May and September are really gorgeous.
Well I was raised in Fla and am currently in Ga and I still feel like anything north of that is a little too much for me in the winter LOL. But, I think our bodies adapt to whatever we are in. So, although you love a Texas summer, you will appreciate the advantages of a Seattle summer too :)
<3
I was born and raised in FL and absolutely HATE hot weather! Give me a change of seasons, leaves falling in the fall, flowers springing open in the spring! Give me anything but 10 mos of humidity and 2 mos of “oh this is nice!”
I’m definitely a “Spring” weather person. Warm weather with some breeze going on. Maybe it’s because I was born in Spring, who knows?
And Caroline, can I ask a question? How do you feel about thrifting? I turned to to thrift stores because I didn’t like the quality of the clothes I found in local retail stores, and even if it takes a while to find the pieces I am interested in, I do find them at some point and at very low prices. Do you have any thrifting experience?
I grew up and still live in the Midwest. I definitely think because of that I prefer to have all 4 seasons. I am not a fan of hot & humid weather.
I’ll take hot or cold just so long as there’s no humidity. Raised in New Mexico and Colorado, I can.not.handle humidity.
Btw- it’s snowing here!
I love Summer and Hot weather. And I am from Georgia originally. I live in Connecticut now and the long cold winters kill me!!
I think it totally has to do with where you grew up.
Enjoy your experiment!
I grew up in Sydney, Australia, it’s super bland in relation to weather. After spending three summers in America, year after year, all I want for the rest of my life,is snow. something I”ve never even seen before.
Arctic winters forevermore
North Texas girl here, and def a warm weather person. I bet I can tell you in advance one thing that is going to take adjusting to living in the northwest: going days without seeing the sun. We are simply not accustomed to it, and I don’t think we even realize it.
Love that wrap skirt! I’m definitely a four seasons girl. Though Fall is my favorite season and I have a much easier time coping with a harsh winter than a harsh summer! (Harsh winter = cozy layers, yay! Harsh summer = can’t strip enough and can’t breathe). It is probably partly because I grew up in New England, which has 4 distinct seasons–with a hot humid summer that rarely if ever touches 100 degrees. But I know people who grew up there who swear they could live in 100 degree weather. I don’t know if they’re right.
I grew up in South Florida, but the heat & humidity got to me by my late 20’s, so I moved to the Bay Area of California (San Francisco). I loved the weather there – cool and damp, most of the time. But circumstances forced me to move to Denver. I’ve been here almost 20 years. Every year I say to myself, “Next year I’m moving to the North Pacific coast”. But, I’m still here. I envy you.
I’m from Seattle and I genuinely get sad when the rain goes away. Please don’t misunderstand, I love a beautiful sunny day! But in the summer and early fall, when the days are dry and beautiful, I can’t help but long for the rainy days spent bundled up inside with coffee. It’s absolutely a product of my environment. It’s just so cozy!
I consider myself a cold-weather gal, but considering that “cold” in CA is 50’s, maybe I’m more “mild-weather”. I live smack dab on the coast in northern CA and love the fog and chilly seaside weather (and I LOVE Seattle, I hope you have a great time!) and the highs hit around 80 or so in Summer — perfection for me. I grew up more inland where summers were triple-digit affairs, so I’m glad to be somewhere that fits my temp style!
I’m a four seasons girl. Growing up in the southern fringe of the northeast made me this way. I couldn’t imagine not looking forward to each season change.
I’m definitely a hot (warm) weather person! I’m from the Czech Republic (mild climate) and I guess you could say I must be used to cold weather in winter by now but I don’t think that being a cold/hot weather person has much to do with where you grew up… I don’t think I’ll ever get used to cold! Warm sum just gives me much more energy to do things (like, to wear something else that my usual winter grey-black ensemble). :) x
As a native Texan I’ve always much preferred winter over summer (for obvious reasons!). I think that might be flipped if I lived somewhere that had actual seasons though!
http://www.lonestarlauren.com
Cold! I was born in Wales, but to a Spanish mother. We moved to Australia when I was a kid and I have pale skin and freckles and always suffered terribly in the heat (Sydney has similar average summer temp highs to Texas). My little sister on the other hand soaked up the warmth and spent summer turning olive brown. Then 4 years ago I moved back to Europe, to Germany. I love the snow and cold, but for the first time in my life I also enjoy the warmer weather, and find myself really looking forward to Spring. :)
I’m curious how you’ll feel – if you’ll love the milder weather as much as I have.
Warm weather all the way! I grew up in Wisconsin, but left home when I was 18 for college in Southwestern Virginia. I studied abroad in Ghana for a semester in college and then went straight into a Southwestern Virginia summer afterwards and having 9 months of solid straight hot weather is the best I’ve ever felt! I was golden tan, any acne disappeared, my hair had lovely highlights, I lost weight because I ate less in the heat and walked everywhere. My mom said growing up that I was always a summer child and if they predicted 6 more weeks of winter on Groundhog’s Day that I would get ridiculously upset. Now, I love a good chunky knit sweater and some hot cocoa on cold winter nights, but man… I can never have enough of summer.
You will like Seattle in July and August. It’s not Texas hot, but it does get really warm some days.
I live relatively close to Seattle (similar weather too), so I prefer mild summer weather. We have a couple of students staying with us from South America and they’re constantly talking about how cold they feel – even on days that are unseasonably warm!
i grew up in Phoenix. In college I lived in Michigan (fairly hot summers) and now I live in Seattle. Seattle summers are gorgeous – 75 and sunny nearly every day. It’s the perfect weather to be active – go hiking or kayaking and you’re completely comfortable. For the most part I love it, but some days I miss really hot summers. Some days I miss going to the beach and bakIng in the sun or something.
I would rather be hot than cold, but I really hate September here in Fort Worth. I grew up in MD, and by the time it’s September I always feel like we should be thinking about cardigans, not hoping we’ve seen the last of the 100 degree days. That being said, there is something exquisitely perfect about freezing in a cold, air-conditioned building, and being able to get into my car (where its probably close to 200 degrees) and just have a nice sauna-warm-up moment.
Morning! Cold weather, and I do think it’s partial to where you grew up. Eugene- not the warmest place on earth. Seattle In the summer, nothing beats north west summers. You will love it
I live in a state that has four strong seasons and I don’t know what I would do without them. If I had to pick though it would have to be our South Dakota springs, there is nothing like seeing the birds come back and getting our garden ready. I do recommend putting the Black Hills on your bucket list if you haven’t already(outside of the tourist attractions which can be fun but are pretty “touristy” ha) it is the most beautiful place.
I’m a New Englander, born and raised. I’d hate to live somewhere without seasons. Yeah, winters are tough and I complain about them, but then spring comes around and I feel like I’ve really “earned” it :^) I throw myself into embracing every season
I was born, raised, and currently reside in New England. I HATE the cold! If I could afford to move to Hawaii, I would! I belong where the palm trees are because I am always cold. I was born in a snow storm, so maybe that had something to do with it? Who knows. Boston summers are wonderful and I love the autumn here in New England, even if it only lasts a month. ;)
I used to prefer hot weather, but that’s changed the last couple of years. I live in a moderate climate (much like Seattle) and on those rare days that it gets really hot or super sunny, I either get unbearably lethargic or get stinging headaches …I now prefer moderately warm weather, like at dusk or when it’s a bit cloudy or with a bit of a sea breeze. Still don’t really like cold though, on those rare days when we have really cold weather it’s nice for a while but it just takes so much preparation to go outside (layering accessories, greasy balms for protecting hands, lips, nose, getting warm again afterwards …).
Grew up in the California desert and continue to be a hot weather person. Currently in Atlanta where the summers are hot but totally different than the desert. Here its humid and hazy. I love the warmth but miss the bright sunshine and big blue sky of the desert.
I am a hot weather person all the way. The hotter and more humid, the better. I think it has a lot to do with growing up in Virginia with no AC in our house. My body just grew accustomed to the heat. Now whenever I walk into a frigid, air-conditioned building during the summer, I instantly start shivering!
Summer in Seattle is the absolute best. You’ll love it! :)

I’m a hot weather person! I’m from Texas too, and hot = summer = freedom and fun! Hot weather to me means family trips, floating down the river, water parks (schlitterbahn!), amusement parks, bike rides, and all that fun stuff. I live in southern California right now, and even though I sometimes complain about the heat, it’s nothing like being at home in the sweltering heat of a Texas summer… And somehow, I miss it! It helps that I hate being cold… I spent a winter in Illinois, and it was the most miserable I’ve ever been. I’d gladly be sipping a sweet tea and fanning myself in the 100+ weather than bundling up and freezing my toes off!
Hot weather! Sadly, I live in Germany–not much of a hot weather locale. I grew up in Virginia with relatively mild winters and humid summers, and in my case maybe my preference has something to do with that. I have been dismayed to have to wear substantial jackets and closed-toed shoes here on occasion in JULY.
Cold for me. Not, like, -40 degrees Fahrenheit plus windchill cold, but I still find that easier to deal with than 110 degrees Fahrenheit. I live in Montana, and I manage just fine, but I think I would die if I had to move to Arizona or a similar climate. I don’t think it has to do with where I grew up since my family was always moving. If anything we lived in hot places (like, say, Manaus, Brazil) more than cool places when I was a child. The heat has always been hard on me.
Fabulous skirt!! I grew up in coastal LA and was incredibly spoiled by yearlong temperate weather. Now that I’m in San Francisco I think I lean a bit more toward the cold and fog, but that may just be because I prefer knits over shorts and dresses.
I’m from AZ and love warm weather! The summers are intense here but we just spend every day at the pool and we love it. The rest of the year it’s gorgeous out. We lived in Utah for 4 years and I was so excited to experience four seasons but surprisingly had a hard time adjusting! I felt chilled to the bone half the year and missed the sun.
I always thought I was a cold weather person, but I grew up in california so “cold” was like, 60 degrees. Now that I live in new england, I find the answer is more like “I will take anything as long as it’s not humid”. I love love love dry heat, and i love love love frosty clear mornings. Humidity and I, however, are the worst of friends.
It’s funny because I live in the midwest so we get ALL the extremes of each season and my “type” is always the opposite season that we’re currently in. So basically if you ask me in the summer I’m a cold weather person, but if you ask me in the winter I’m a warm weather person LOL
Hello there! I’m new here! (Well, new to blogging myself, I’ve been obsessed with reading your blog for quite some time). I have to add my vote in for living in a four season climate. When the weather is always changing from hot to cold and back again, you constantly get that “ooohhh something new is about to start!” feeling. However, if forced to choose, I would say cold (I was born and raised in Minnesota, after all).
I LOVE autumn and winter. I LOVE the crispness and all the colors of fall…the falling leaves…wearing layers. I LOVE gray rainy days and bare trees…and jackets. I hate being hot. I’m in Arkansas. I’m always sorry when April comes because I’m not “finished” with winter yet.
The hotter the better, I’d rather sweat than shiver any day, and I grew up in Minnesota, so maybe it just solidified my hatred for the cold???
I grew up in Oregon & Washington, & I live in Washington again now, but I did live in LA for 5 years & I’m a warm weather person. Laying out by the pool or beach & swimming are some of my absolute favorite things to do. Unfortunately there are not a lot of outdoor pools in the NW & the beach is COLD. You will find come November that you desperately need a shot of Vitamin D & a weekend in the sun.
However, when it is warm & sunny around here, it is absolutely gorgeous. Today is supposed to be 70+ degrees. Shhhhhh…..don’t tell anyone because we don’t want our secret to get out!
Incidentally, you will be driving RIGHT. BY. MY. HOUSE. on your trip north. I can literally see the 5 freeway from the side of my house. We’re about 2 hours south of Seattle, so if you find you need a refresher or your doggie needs a break, we would LOVE to have you!
I’m cold weather too!! And it’s funny because I was born in hot sunny West Palm Beach (Florida) but grew up in NC. I hate North Carolina (sorry if that offends anyone!) but I also can’t stand the heat in FL. When it goes above 70 degrees I start panicking because I get shortage of breath with the heat, sweaty, sticky and i feel dizzy :( I love fall and winter because that means hot chocolate, peppermint mocha, blankets and movies!!
Warm weather! But not hot, and definitely not super humid. If the weather was in the 70s all winter, and the 80s all summer I’d be set. But, I’m in the PNW (from Seattle area, living in Portland, OR) so I don’t get this. I do appreciate the rain, and when it does get warm in the summer I appreciate it so much more! I lived near Sacramento for a short time and have to say that I missed having seasons & weather. Anyway, you’ll love Seattle summer. There’s nothing better :)
I LOVE that skirt! I’ve been staring at it for a month or so (Fair Indigo right?) and couldn’t decide, but now I must have it.
I’m a weather whiner. I get uncomfortable if it’s too hot or too cold. I live in Phoenix so I am happy all winter since it rarely gets below 60 degrees, but cranky all summer since it’s over 100. I went to Seattle for a couple weeks two summers ago and while it was the MOST gorgeous city, I was wearing a jacket in the pleasant daytime temps because my body could not adjust after the desert heat. You might have a bit of an adjustment period too.
HOT weather. I’m from Austin and still live here (sometimes it seems like I’m the only townie left!), so I love the muggy 100+ months here. Although I think my hair would like it to be less humid :)
My partner’s family is from Wisconsin / Illinois, so they consistently make fun of me for shivering on a 76 degree night…
this is fascinating. i’m from los angeles and have lives here all my life. i HATE the always sunny, hot weather. omg, we’ve already had 90 degree weekends and i’m going to loose my shit. spring can be nice here, but you only get a couple weeks before the intolerable heat. i dream of seattle weather. rain, gloom, scarves, coats, boots… LOVE! but i have to be honest, i’m not sure if it’s so special to me because it’s so rare. i don’t know if i could permanently live in that environment. i bet i would start to miss the sun.
I’m definitely a COOL weather person. I don’t like it too cold, but I especially loathe it when it’s too hot and you get all sweaty! How long are you planning to stay in Seattle? I live in Vancouver, and I am certain you’re going to LOVE spring, summer and autumn here in the Pacific Northwest. In winter you may wish you were back in Texas! :)
I’m an in between person, those spring days where you both tights and bare legs are perfectly comfortable. Wanna wear layers? No problem! Wanna go full on summer with a nice dress? Great! That’s my kind of weather. But generally, I do like summer better than winter… If I had to move to Texas it might be the other way around tho, anything +25°C is hot to me.
My friend and I were JUST talking about this but in terms of the month in which you are born. She was born in late July and loves the summer/hot weather, I was born in January and love the winter/cold weather. We were both both in the Deep South so who knows what part that plays in it. Ah the mysteries of life…
I’m definitely more of a hot-weather person, and I have no doubt it has to do with my spending my teenage years in Africa with my family. I’d rather be hot than cold any day, and I don’t love air conditioning. Of course, I’m married to a guy who HATES being hot and freezes me with AC all summer long.
In other news, I love your outfit here! I’d never have thought of pairing that skirt with chambray, but it looks great
I love warm weather! I love being outside in the sunshine and doing warm-weather activities outdoors! Maybe it has something to do with where I live? I live in Vancouver – or Raincouver should I say! It rains a lot here, so maybe I love the warmer weather because I miss it so much!
I would definitely say I am a warm weather girl. I grew up in Alaska! I loved it at the time, but then at age 11 I moved to Florida and then I loved that! I went to college in St. Louis and now I live back in SW Florida. I love living down here. Sure, the summers are hot, but that’s what the pool and AC is for. Plus our springs, winters, and falls, are worth the hot and humid summer. We get seasons, just none of the bad ones! The fact that I can sit on the porch drinking a tropical drink in January is one of my favorite things in life. I told my husband that I could move states, but there is no way I would move further north than North Carolina. We went up to MA this February with the awful snowstorms and he completely agrees with me and now says he won’t leave FL! I have no idea how anyone can survive in the winters cleaning off cars and driving to work in the snow! Crazy!
I definitely think where you live influences what weather you like – but that it can swing either way! I grew up in west Texas and across the Southeast, and am a warm-weather gal. (Though I will say: I haven’t acclimated to the humidity.) As much as I love to venture to the snow, I’m not sure I could live in it!
First of all, I’m so excited for you!! Reading your posts every day make me feel like I’m moving there!! Seattle is so beautiful!
I’m from northern california, and I’m a warm weather person, but warm for me is 72 degrees with low/no humidity! Now I’m living in kentucky and I hate the humidity! So, Kentucky Springs & Falls…West Coast summers! (;
Seattle’s summers are pretty extreme. We Seattlites tend to melt at anything above 80 and put on shorts at the sight of sun (despite it being freezing) – it’s odd! One summer it was in the 90s and hit the 100s! Beware! We may be the rainy city but the heat cannot help but seep into every crevice of your skin and make you feel sick!
I, personally, love spring and autumn weather where the coats are still handy and a beanie can stop a chill. Summer always made me cranky and I never got used to wearing shorts due to being teased for having big thighs – oh well! Never too late to get a pair of high-waisted shorts haha. Hope you enjoy your stay here! Seattle is the most beautiful city in the world, next to SF as a second best. :)
I genuinely love both. I love all the seasons, actually. I am always thrilled when I get to experience all 4 in their fullest glory. Lots of snow in winter, green and pretty in spring, hot summer, and mellow fall with the gorgeous leaves. LOVE!!
I am from PA, currently reside in GA and am most-definitely a warm-weather gal. It’s the #1 reason I agreed to move here (my husband is from here).
Cute.
Caroline, I am having quite the direct opposite experience of you :) I recently moved to Texas from Seattle and am waiting for my first Texas summer and also longing for a Seattle summer. I think you’ll love it! Nothing beats the sunny warm weather in Seattle being surrounded by mountains, trees, lakes and beaches. On the other hand, I’m currently loving the heat in Texas so I’m super excited to see how I like it. Have an amazing adventure in Seattle!
So lovely to see you in a skirt :)
In the UK you have no choice but cold (and wet) weather haha, however if it was down to me I would choose warm. Originally born in Zimbabwe my skin craves the warmth of the sun!
Love this skirt! And I would say in between. But I would prefer a little cooler to too hot. :)
Spring in Tasmania is brutal – sunshine tempered by icy winds and freezing rain. Autumn is divine and the most stable season of the lot. Winter is ok save for the wind, which drops the apparent temperature at least 3 degrees lower (the wind chill factor has a lot to answer for!) and summer is dodgy at best – an odd handful of high 30 degrees Celsius, which everyone either loves or complains about, with the rest of the season ranging between cool and tolerable. We even had snow on the mountain on Christmas day, in the middle of summer; that’s how inconsistent the seasons are here. As a result I’m neither a here or there weather girl, although I abhor humidity.
I currently live in SC and have lived here practically my whole life but I’m moving up to VA in a month and a half…so I grew up in the heat and always hated the cold growing up, but when I went to college (also in SC), it was like I had a change overnight. All the sudden I couldn’t stand the heat and now I’m a cold weather person all the way! The heat actually has started making me sick so maybe that’s why? It’s so funny to me though how our bodies, personalities, and what we like are constantly changing to morph and mold us into who we are as people and that’s what makes us us and all different but alike. It’s really actually pretty cool!
PS. My family is actually from Texas – my parents grew up and met there and most of my extended family still lives there. The heat is like none other so I understand how you will miss it, for it’s own uniqueness. ;)
I grew up in and currently live in New England. Since we have a shorter season of warm weather, I appreciate the warmth in the spring and summer. I also love bundling up in the fall, crisp air, heading off to pumpkin festivals. Lastly, there is something magical about snow covered trees in the winter….and it makes the spring thaw so worth it! So, I guess its more about weather ” appreciation” and enjoying it wherever you might be!
I love when it changes! Almost any break in the weather is an excuse to wear something different than you wore the day before. Four seasons are a necessity for me.
Though I will say I can deal with a 40-below windchill far better than I can deal with 95 and humid. Winter is my jam.
I grew up in Seattle and can’t handle the heat. I lived in North Carolina one summer and OMG the humidity! I love our Seattle summers and its 62 today!
I lived in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Canada until I was 12, and then moved to Central Florida and lived there until I was 18, so I’ve experienced both brutal winters and impossibly hot summers and I think I am… somebody who loves both! I think it’s definitely part of my upbringing. I would be bored to tears living somewhere without all four seasons and the chance to go from a goose down coat that covers my ankles and fleece tights and snow boots to basically walking around in a bikini and flip flops and not much more. In fact, while in Canada all I could do was complain about the cold- I remember one winter where it snowed so much we could only exit the house by climbing off the snow pile from our second story balcony- and while in Florida, all I could do was complain about the heat- like the week after a hurricane hits and it’s 100 degrees outside with 100% humidity but all the power lines are down so there’s no AC. Since Florida I’ve lived in New Orleans, London, Paris, Boston and New York and the cold is never quite cold enough and the hot never quite hot enough. My favorite season is Spring, which is a perfect, breezy 60-70 degrees basically everywhere in the world- but only when it’s set against those -40 degree winters and 100+ degree summers. Otherwise, it’s just the same old boring weather to me.
I recently heard your interview on the Lively Show and fell in love with the blog. Now what do you know? You’re moving to Seattle?! That’s where I am and I have to say…I think for next capsule you’ll need to get yourself some rain boots and rain jacket ;) The weather is uber bipolar. We have to pay for our sunshine here. If I ever see you around I’m going to ask for a picture and autograph! haha and I’m experimenting with my own capsule following your guide. Hope to hear about how you like Seattle. At least your current style fits in perfectly here! It’s J.crew Madewell city (ok sometimes it’s North Face city too)
That denim top is so versatile! Love how you styled it with that skirt! :)
As a Southern California native, I always enjoyed the sunshine, but recently it’s been getting a little too hot around these parts and now I appreciate a nice chilly day :)

i am a all seasons person, i was raised in Texas so i know the heat and Houston is humid as well,
in 1994 i visited New York City and never left due to the seasons, i love the snow of winter, the changing leaves of colors of fall, crispness of spring, and the sun of summer days that seem to last forever.
It was a shock the first few years of living in the city but the change open my eyes, if your lucky you might get 90 of each of the seasons. In Texas it seemed like spring and summer all the time to me.
I’m niether. I prefer the in between temps. 70-85. We have four very distinct seasons so, I adapt fairly easily…with a few grumbles.
I think of myself as more of a cold weather gal. Grew up in Seattle, lived in L.A. for 5 years and was the only kid in college stripping down to a tank top after walking across campus. (It was much warmer there in August than back home then) The change in seasons in Seattle is wonderful. Different colors and feelings in every change. Be ready for places with no ac. Most places don’t have it because our hot days, (in the 90’s) usually last only a week. We’ve had such a mild winter this year so hopefully we’ll have a beautiful summer!
Winter, winter, winter! I grew up 3hrs west of Sydney, in a town where the summers are super hot and the winters are super cold – not cold enough to snow, but it gets below freezing on a regular basis. I live in Sydney now and summer can be outrageously and uncomfortably humid, so I’m a huge fan of the cooler months. I think you’re right, it depends on where you grew up – I love memories of orning frosts and hot milo and fleece-lined tights! Winters in Sydney rarely drop below 8 degrees Celsius, and for me there is nothing lovelier than accessorising my skinny jeans/shirt uniform with boots, a scarf and a coat.
i always thought i was a cold weather person because i feel so… overwhelmed in the heat. but when i actually experienced COLD, i realized i’m not so good at that either. i’m just a super-picky californian who likes nice, moderate weather. anything between 60-75 degrees is ok by me! :D

I’m a hot weather person – and grew up in Minnesota. So maybe it has to do with shedding the artic weather of my hometown?
I’m a temperate climate person. I grew up in the high desert where you get triple digit summers and snowy winters. My favorite climate so far was southern Ireland where the sun was low on the horizon in winter but it was mostly gentle sun between the occasional rainstorms.
This is such a cute combination! We love the shoes too!

It’s so cool to know I’m not the only one who feels depressed when the weather hits over 70 degrees. I grew up in the tree filled suburbs of NY so even in the summer the trees would protect me from heat. Now that I live in the south, it’s just painful from June-October
I grew up in Brazil and live in San Francisco. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to summers here because it still feels chilly in the early morning and night and doesn’t get hot enough, in my opinion, during the day. I miss summers in Brazil even though they could be super hot and humid. We try to get away during weekends in the Bay Area to other areas in California, some very close, that get warmer so I can get my summer fix.
I am from Kansas, where you can pretty much have all four seasons in one day sometimes, so I find that I like the variety. I like a balance of all four seasons, although the past couple years have seemed like mostly winter and summer with very little fall or spring. So far, this spring has been lovely, so I hope it continues. My husband and I are moving to Turkey in the fall, so we’ll have a whole new climate to get used to!
Oh the cold is the worst- especially snowy, wet cold. I grew up in Utah, so I’ve lived with both extremes. My husband and I can’t wait to make the move to California next year. Ironically, I love a bit of Seattle weather. I’ve spent a lot of time there over the years. You must road trip out to the peninsula while you’re there!
I appreciate four seasons (I grew up in Kansas and now live in Boston), but if I had to pick, I’d choose hot. My body type and blood pressure on the lower end of normal combine to make me feel cold even when others are just fine. I get tired of bundling up and carrying around extra layers (even in the summer for the A/C!). I do like to chalk it up to the fact that I’m half Filipino, and like to believe I’m adapted to the heat. ;)
