So here we are, the last post … for a while at least. I don’t think we could have finished on a more “unfancy” outfit. A white tee and jeans. Finished out with a front tuck, rolled jeans, “no makeup” makeup, and kinda-messy hair. So plain — so awesome.
I had big plans to end this post with something like, “Now, let’s not get all sappy …” but that’s not going to work now. :)
I don’t even know what to say after all of your kindness yesterday. Goodness.
From the warmest place in my heart: Thank you.
The words seem so flat as I type them, but I hope they jump out of the screen and land somewhere in your heart. It takes a pretty great human being to spend their precious time encouraging others — thank you for being that person, yesterday and all along this entire journey.
Your words yesterday had me thinking:
Any time you use your words to add value to another human being, you are making the world better.
It sounds a little Pollyanna, but think about it.
When you feel loved + valued, it’s easier to love + value others, right?
So every time you add value to a human being, you’re starting a chain reaction. You’re making it easier for them to love the next person in their path. And who knows — that chain reaction might make it really far down the line, affecting people whose name you don’t know, whose face you’ve never seen.
And it started with you.
So today, I hope you’ll visualize that chain reaction, every time you share a kind word. Here’s to starting more of them and making the world better, one person at a time.
See you in a few months.
Sending you so much love,
I anxiously await your return! Have fun!
Missing you already- thanks for honestly being an inspiration. x
Good luck to you in your next adventure! You will be missed but your journey and inspiration through un-fancy live on! Hope you’ll be back sharing again soon!
I MISS YOU ALREADY!!!!! You are like my favorite cup of coffee each morning! Your journey sounds amazing and I am hoping you will let us know how it all unfolds!
<3<3<3 you will be missed <3
Enjoy your ADVENTURE!!
I am so sad to see you go. Good luck on your new adventures. I just found your blog a few days ago. I am going to try out the capsules! I can’t wait to see your next post in my inbox. I’m following on instagram. Safe travels.
I’m the same as Kelly. Just found your blog a few days ago and love it! I even donated half of the clothes in my closet already! I’m following on Instagram and hope you have a great time in Seattle! It’s a beautiful place. :)
Really sad to see you go, but excited for this new season in your life. Much has changed in my life because of your blog and your words, im really thankful for the influence you’ve had in my life and my little world. I even bought the Art of Possibility book and read it all ! It was truly amazing! Time to start seeing possibilities everywhere! Can’t wait to see what lies ahead, for all of us who are interestingly connected through Unfancy. Enjoy the journey! Will see you on IG!
Hi Caroline,
I only discovered your blog quite recently but in that short time it has inspired me and I looked forward to the new post notifications dropping into my inbox. I had a crazy day yesterday and so I didn’t see your post until late last night. While I am disappointed for my own sake that there will be no more un-fancy (and the gap it will leave in my inbox) I totally understand your motivations behind the change. Wishing you all the best for your Seattle adventures and future projects – exciting times! x
I
Caroline,
I just love the blog! :) Thank-you so much for sharing all the specifics on starting a capsule wardrobe. Paring down my closet to nothing but pieces I love has been beyond phenomenal for me! I am so much more confident in what I am wearing and picking out my clothes is now fun instead of frustrating.
Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! Every woman in America should be doing this. It is such a liberating feeling and really helped me to understand my personal style.
By the way, you always look fabulous. I love the fun outfits you put together!
All the best to you,
Candyce
Just found you yesterday…literally! I’m glad I did and I look forward to reading your previous posts. Enjoy Seattle, it’s a great city.
Have enjoyed your posts. Will miss your posts. Excited for you and wishing a great adventure for you. Looking forward six months ahead.
Best of luck in your new life!!! I literally signed up for your newsletter last week….I’m hoping to see a surprise in my inbox someday after you’re settled.
I guess I found you just in time! Found you yesterday and my closet transformation started last night. Feels good. (Relieved workout clothes aren’t in the precious 37!)
Hi Caroline,
We’ve never met but I will miss you!
I stumbled upon your blog a few months ago, inspired by the idea of a capsule wardrobe. Your writing, ideas and thoughts have given me much to think about. I’m well on my way to an even more simple and enriching experience. Thank you for helping me along the way. You’ve made a great impact in my life in just a short amount of time. I wish you and your husband all the best in Seattle.
Chao
Thanks from the bottom of MY heart for sharing yours and inspiring myself (and others) to do something truly transformative. It takes a lot of vulnerability to do what you’ve done in the past year. I know that it’s been contagious and I hope you sense the ripple effects for days and years to come. Enjoy your time in Seattle and be sure to stop in at the Bastille (in Ballard) for a bite to eat! Also, as a fellow pup parent, you’ve got to check out Pioneer Pets in Pioneer Square. The most lovely pet store there ever was! http://pioneerpetseattle.com/
I miss your posts already Caroline! Best of luck in Seattle! I can’t wait to see and hear all about it on Instagram.
Your blog has helped me to become more intentional with my clothing and other material possessions in my life. You’re blog was the spark to my change and increased happiness. thank you so much.

Caroline, like several others I just found you last week. I so appreciate your thoughtful approach to your wardrobe and to life. I read about capsule wardrobes before, but your writing and photo examples brought the idea to life. I will download your guide (thanks for that) and give it a try. Thank you for sharing your experience in such an open and honest way. Best wishes, Julie
Thank you so much for your inspiration! And thank you for doing this– for stopping when you get the leading to do so. Extra noise is so prevalent and its nice to see someone who knows when quiet is needed. I look forward to your return. Is there someway I can sign up to be alerted when you do so?
Caroline,I somehow missed yesterday’s post but I have been following you daily for a few months now and have loved every minute of it. Even this. I love your heart behind everything you have done here even in taking this time away. Thank you for sharing your life with us here in this space. May the Lord bless and keep you in your new adventure!

Caroline,
It was so nice to hear your voice yesterday in the podcast. I’m just so impressed with the wisdom and humility you have showed us through this journey and blog. It truly is an inspiration! I will definitely miss coming to your site everyday! Travel mercies on your road trip to Seattle!
Blessings,
Lauren
Thank you Caroline for all your inspiration, both in fashion and in life. I love your idea of the chain reaction. So true! Best of luck and I hope to read new posts when you return!
Nooooo, I’m so sad! You’ve inspired me to capsule once I’m home from studying abroad. Please come back soon!
Good luck! God bless you and Aaron! Enjoy your new adventures! Will deeply miss your posts :(Have fun!
Vera
Caroline, I started reading because the capsule wardrobe concept appealed to me, but certainly continued reading and checking in daily because of your wisdom and way with words. Your post today is no exception! Wherever you land after the next six months, I hope you continue with your writing – it is lovely.Have a wonderful break!
xoxoxo
Thank YOU, I loved to follow your blog and I wish you all the luck in the world for your adventure. It sounds awesome. Take care.
Good luck with your move! I have lived in Seattle since I was 18 (I’m 35 now) and I will be curious to see if your allocations in your capsule change due to the weather here. For instance I have a major jacket fetish because someone once told me jackets were the ultimate “accessory” in Seattle. You need some sort of jacket almost all the time! But also I have been playing with the concept of a capsule for months now and I think in Seattle you may only need 2/year? Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer? Anyhow I’ll be curious to hear your thoughts on style and capsules in Seattle! Thanks, Alison
I have so very much enjoyed — for justthea few weeks since I connected with it — your blog and style. Being burdened with a closet the size of a small bedroom – and completely stuffed – I’m eager to find a new way to live, and dress. You’ve shared so much of your life and attitude with your readers, and it’s been a lovely experience ‘getting to know you’ this way. Bon fortune on your trip, I look forward to reconnecting and hearing more once you’re in Seattle.
Oh goodness Caroline, I can’t tell you how much you’ve done for me! A friend sent me your blog a few months back and I spent HOURS browsing through and thinking about my own wardrobe. Although mine is still a work in progress, you’ve changed the way I think about consuming, dressing and feeling comfortable in my clothes. Thank you for your inspiring work and lovely words. You seem like a lady I would love to have margaritas with and hope you have a safe trip to Seattle! xoxo
That is something I have realised recently, whilst reading your blog and other things, that the world grinds people down. A lot. And I really feel like it is my job and everyone’s to be actively building them back up, through really appreciating, valuing and telling the truth like telling people they are beautiful.
You, dear Caroline, are beautiful inside and out, and I super appreciate you opening yourself up to us all. I think you are really brave with every post. You really have changed us and the world for the better. And I will miss you but I am so glad you have made this decision and so happy for you and your husband and pup!! So excited for you and to see what you do when/if you come back to us and how these month change and develop you! Enjoy….I am away to start from the beginning of your archives to ease the pain :)
Caroline! I have spent almost every morning for the last year with you, your insightful words and your lovely blog. I will definitely miss the morning reflection that’s become such a cherished part of starting my day.
However, I admire you for listening to your heart and going with your gut. For choosing the uncomplicated path. For taking leaps left and right! I hope Seattle is every bit of the adventure you hope for, and even more of an experience than you can imagine. It’s one of my favorite cities in the U.S. And I hope to see you again on the web at some point!
Until then, thank you for the sharing, for the opportunity to learn along with you and to make changes in my life that are sometimes small but always progressing and gradual and meaningful. It has meant so much to me to be able to LET GO of the STUFF and to lean into simplicity in my life. To allow myself the space and the time to enjoy the things I truly want to enjoy. I’ve learned so many lessons from and with you. Thank you for those. Their value is immeasurable. <3
You have the kindest soul. Hope you all have an amazing time in Seattle, keep sharing your light and we look forward to what you bring back to us when you return. :)
No, thank YOU!!! You inspired me to clean out my wardrobe completely!! I have two wardrobe capsules (that I’m sure I can still make smaller!), one for important meetings and one for casual days as I mostly work from home. I used to have at least 40 t- shirts in which I’d only wear about 5 of them all the time and 50 blouses. Now I only have about 19 pieces in my casual wardrobe (8 tees, 5 pairs of pants/shorts, 1 pair ballet flats and one pair of white canvas slip ons that match with everything 1 pair of running shoes and one pair of cigar style flats. I love it!!! I also now have about 42 pieces total including blouses skirts and heels. Still working on that last one but I’m proud of myself! It literally takes me less than 10 seconds to put an outfit together since I can now see my choices clearly.Everything you write every single day makes sense and I love to finally hear something that makes sense. All those other bloggers and Youtubers only promote and try to get you to spend spend spend, when in reality we don’t need much in life. Thank you for everything and can’t wait for the 6 months to be over!!!
My daughter purchased a couple little painted silly clay faces at a local gift shop. They are called Seeds of Happiness and it reminds me of your message today. Under ABOUT, you can read the story.https://www.facebook.com/seedsofhappiness/info?tab=page_info
I’ll miss reading your blog and wish you a fantastic time in Seattle! Go, explore, live, take chances!
After reading your post yesterday, I had to go all therapist, cheerleader, life-coach on myself for feeling so sad! I don’t usually have a horribly hard time with goodbyes, especially when I don’t personally know someone. But you, Caroline, I will miss! I have so enjoyed receiving your blog posts in my inbox. Every morning I’d smile and quickly open them. They always felt like such a delightful little treat. Like sneaking a cookie before dinner. Truly, I looked so forward to them. Your words always left me feeling a little more upbeat, optimistic and just plain happy. I have loved your posts, your stories, your general outlook, your sense of humor, your grace….what a pleasure it’s been to keep up with you.As you head to Seattle, know that I’m rooting you on in your adventures. Go learn and do and experience and be!! Hopefully our paths will cross again. Until then, stay sweet! xo.
Hello! Like many others, I just discovered you earlier this week. I donated so much of my clothes, I was able to free up half of my closet and drawers. I even told my husband a few weeks back that we needed to buy a new dresser!! I am still not quite down do 37 pieces for a capsule this season. I’m working my way towards it and will be starting my first capsule this June. Thanks for the inspiration!

@snspalomino
Simply a beautiful “unfancy” soul <3 XOXO
Thank you for your constant optimism, wisdom + general niceties. Your episode on The Lively Show was lovely, and I’ve been working on many of things you talk about. You give me hope! And I look forward to your return.
Bon voyage!
Dear Caroline,I stumbled across your blog for the first time last week. Since then I’ve worked mt way backwards and read so much of what you’ve posted over the last year. Your story, your purpose here, and your approach to sharing it resonated so strongly with me. I’m not much of a *commenter* but when I saw that you’re signing off for a bit I knew I just had to say “Wait, before you go, just know this blog is still touching and speaking to new people every day!”
Good luck on your big adventure (the PNW is the BEST!) and I’ll be keeping an eye out for your return :)
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited for you to start on your next adventure in Seattle! You are going to have an amazing time, and this little community will always be ready to welcome you back whenever you decide. This last outfit truly emcompasses ‘unfancy’. Thank you for sharing so much with us! xx
Goodbye? See you later????Much love, and enjoy :) :)
I am going to miss your blog so much and I am so grateful I stumbled upon you by accident a few months ago. Thank you for inspiring me to start a capsule wardrobe ( I think I already had one but it was not purposeful). Best of luck on your new journey.
Caroline,
From me, a big THANK YOU leaping out in your direction! I will miss you so much and can’t wait to hear back from you in a few months’97all the best, have fun on your road trip and the best of times in Seattle! I will be following you on Instagram, of course ;)
Thank so much for sharing your journey with us. You have changed the way I think about my clothes and I have loved every one if your posts. I hope you have a amazing 6 months!
Bye!
I’m probably not your usual demographic. I’m 50+, a Canadian, a pastor, a gramma and I absolutely love your blog. It’s the one I look for everyday.
I’m looking forward to when you start blogging again, but in the meantime, have a great adventure in Seattle. (There’s an amazing church there called ‘The City’ (pastor Judah Smith) if you’re into that. :)
Take care!
Your blog has become a regular part of my morning routine. Your blog has inspired me to create my own capsule wardrobe; which has lead to me feeling great about myself every morning when I walk out of the door. Finally, after 35 years of agony, I’ve been able to establish my own personal style. It may seem like a small thing, but it’s not. I live in LA, so there have been many days when I feel inferior based on my lack of fashion sense. Being intentional about the pieces in my wardrobe has allowed me to establish the fashion sense I’ve always longed for. Thank you. Seriously, thank you.
It’s not a “good bye”, it’s a “see ya soon”. Have a safe trip!
I really look forward to your return. You will be missed. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts every afternoon with a cup of tea, taking a break from work. Your blog has given me so much inspiration. And I think I’m ready to give my first (summer) capsule wardrobe a try. Enjoy your break! Lots of love from sunny Sweden
And a big thank you to you as well for taking the time out to create this space for us! Can’t wait to see what you come back with on your return! Good luck – xoxo
Caroline,How funny to see that I’m not the only one to find your blog just a few days ago! I came upon it in a very roundabout way at a very perfect time. We just moved into our “forever” home (in Seattle!) last weekend and unpacking/organizing has me overwhelmed. As such, I’ve so enjoyed reading/learning, and appreciate all you’ve shared.
My husband and I moved here 5.5 years ago and absolutely fell in love with this city. I hope it is as good to you as it’s been to us.
Cheers! and thank you again,
Genevieve
I hope you have an amazing time!! I’ve always wanted to go to Seattle! Looking forward to seeing your adventures on IG. :)
I just found your blog a few days ago! Inspiring :) I’ll spend the time catching up on the posts. Wishing you a smooth transition and looking forward to your return!
I’ve been quietly following along for awhile, but wanted to pop in to thank you for the inspiration you’ve provided me over the past several months. Sartorially speaking, you and I are very different, but I have learned a lot about myself after following your lead and creating a capsule wardrobe for myself. I’ve also read several of the books you’ve recommended, and though I don’t typically read those kinds of books, I feel like the messages I’ve consumed via your blog and those books have made a significant impact on my life. I am actively striving to live more simply and intentionally, and I have you to thank for planting that seed in my heart. I wish you the best of luck on your exciting new adventure.
I just started following you and can’t wait to hear of your new adventures when you return!!

I just found yours site today and poof, just like that you’re leaving~ Good thing I have pages and pages of your blog to scour through. I’m intrigued by the capsule wardrobe concept. Thanks for this and I hope this blog will resurface again. Who knows by then, I may have my own capsule wardrobes under construction.
Hey Caroline! I discovered your blog like..yesterday!! I feel like I should mention that I almost never read blogs or spend much time online unless I’m looking for a particular something, HoWeVeR that being said, as soon as I started reading your blog I couldn’t stop! I literally read it straight for hours and I love every bit of it. My favorite part about your blog is that you’re such a genuine, regular (but FaBuLoUs;) person! I love that your take on everything is “make it your own” and “don’t get caught up in rules”. Like you said, it should be fun and the purpose is to take your focus off of “what to wear today” and leave more room in life for things that actually matter. Those are the biggest, best points I’ve taken away so far. I’m going to attempt to start on a capsule today and I’m pretty excited – my husband and I share a teeny tiny closet and one dresser and..well..we (ok, mostly me) have a lot of clothes of which I wear a small percentage :P In a way I feel lucky that I stumbled upon your blog right before your blogging-break, simply because it gives me time to catch up! >^.^< Also, your blog inspires me to blog! I'm a creative person and I love to write, I just haven't spent much time in the blogging world, but once you find something you're good at and passionate about, you should share it with others! I believe what you've done here is share your love and life and passions with others, and you have already made the world a more beautiful place because of it (side-note: if you haven't read the kid's book Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney, you should read it, you would probably love it). Well, I feel like this comment might as well be a blog lol, sorry! I don't comment on things all that much but when I do it usually turns out to be a novel! Thank you Caroline, I think you are a wonderful and beautiful person. Have fun in Seattle! I'm from Portland (similar weather to Seattle), but live in Colorado now. My hot tip for Seattle weather is: Don't be afraid to play in the rain! Get yourself a good pair of rain boots and jump in some puddles! ;) -Kash
Going to miss your daily updates! You’ve really inspired me to dive into closet minimalism and all the ways it is spreading into the rest of my life. Can’t wait to hear about your summer adventures on the flipside!
Caroline,
You post yesterday had me thinking “Good for YOU!” and sad for me. I love waking up to Un-Fancy in my email. You are a bright light. All day yesterday I was thinking of what I could say to you to let you know how you have impacted my life + all of my clients lives (trainer/life coach I use you and Un-fancy to help them recreate a New wardrobe with clothes that make them feel great in their new bodies). Everyone loves your website. You are in inspiration and even taking time off to have an adventure is teaching us all so much. Seattle is wonderful, the North West is my original home- have fun!
Sooo back to something wonderful I could tell you… all day I was thinking about it and last night on facebook a friend posted an article someone had written who follows you. She Un-Fancied her life and never looked back. I knew right away that was it right there! You have created a movement. If you never get back to blogging it will be ok because others, this blogger on facebook, my newly inspired friend who shared this blog, we will keep sharing your passion. It is our passion now. Life simplified. Life without too much. Living in our bodies and feeling wonderful everyday vs. stressing and feeling yucky. You are a light and that light is contagious. Thank you.
xoxo
Lyns
p.s. my wardrobe rocks and I have a style I adore and never compare to anyone else! Amazing!!!
I’ve only just discovered you, and miss you already! The world needs more kindness and more yous. Looking forward to your return! Smoochies!
Good luck with this next chapter in your life! I can’t wait to hear all about it when you (hopefully) come back in a few months. I’m currently in the process of building my first capsule wardrobe (I donated a ton of things last weekend…my closet is so sparse, but it feels so good!) Thank you for inspiring me to do that and now inspiring me to try to set up my life so that who knows, maybe one day I can also move to a new city for a few weeks! I love your outlook and I really think just a month of reading your blog has changed me for the better…I’ll work on keeping this chain of events going :)
Caroline, I just wanted to say thank you for this blog and the wonderful community you’ve built around it. Like so many of your lovely followers, you’ve inspired me to minimize my closet and to seek joy in life. You’ve been an inspiration and I’m so thankful I got to follow along in your journey for a bit. I hope you and Aaron have an incredible time on your Seattle adventure!
It’s raining, hailing & sunny today in Seattle. Welcome!
Thank you for sharing your capsule wardrobe journey with us! I’ve really enjoyed following along and growing with you. I’m excited to see what you share on Instagram these next six months and I can’t wait to find out where you take your blogging next! Enjoy Seattle!!
I just found your site just as you are leaving. I intend to read all your old blogs & posts to help streamline my life. I look forward to your return. My daughter is a singer/songwriter in Austin, Ali Holder. aliholder.com. Check her out when you miss Texas. Best wishes.
My favorite kind of outfit, good choice! Best wishes! xoxo, Charlie, http://www.lemonbutterlove.com
I hope you do come back! You’ve influenced my closet, and my life, in quite a few ways!
Caroline I want to say a huge thank you! I haven’t been following you for very long but once I started you changed my life and its not just the outfits and the concept its your inspiring messages. Thank you for being so awesome. Thank you for sharing your beautiful words. This last post of yours brought a happy tear to my eye – people can be so amazing. Please know how much you add to the lives of others. I very much look forward to your return. All the best in Seattle! Much love from Australia xx
Hi Caroline, I know you’re leaving the blog for a little while, and I’ve never commented before, but I wanted to let you know what an impact your capsule wardrobe idea and this blog have made in my life.I used to have a closet full of clothing with the tags still on them. I cleaned out my closet in November of 2013 while struggling to balance grad school, working full time, planning a wedding, and what I can only describe as a bout with depression. I hadn’t yet discovered Un-Fancy, but I was so glad when I did! You put a name and focus to what I was struggling to do in my own life. Your posts have brought consistent encouragement to focus less on stuff and more on building a life of content. Thank you!
Enjoy Seattle! Best wishes to you in the next adventure!
I”ll miss you! We’ll all miss you! Have fun!!!!!!! I’m glad the two of you are chasing your dreams. We’ll be here checking back to see when you return!
(Maybe when you figure out your plans, you can give us a return date?)
Thanks for the inspiration. I look forward to hear more Un-Fancy adventures–always stylish and also with substance!!
Beautiful post. I hope the move goes well and we’ll see you in a few months :)
Hello Caroline!Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), I just stumbled upon your blog recently (maybe in the last couple weeks) and I’ve really loved your voice and insight. I’ve paired down my wardrobe significantly over the last couple weeks and it’s felt great! Not only that but I’m already feeling the spillover into other areas of my life. It feels great to have the time and energy to focus on the things that make me really happy. You’ve encouraged me to take my food blog in a more “minimalist” direction and I am extremely excited about it. I’d love to hear your opinion on it, if you ever have some time and are looking for some yummy recipes. Thanks for the inspiration! I’ll be following you on Instagram to see what you are up to in Seattle! Good luck, Nicola
Thank you so much for posting about style and minimalism – I love your blog so much – I also appreciate the strength it takes to move on in real life and not let your online presence take over. I love your outfits and style – you make my day sing. Thanks and hope to see you again!
Just listened to your podcast! I live in Seattle and can’t wait to see your adventures in this wonderful city on Instagram. I’ve SO loved learning about the capsule wardrobe. Truly life changing for me. So thank you for your message. Best of luck to you and your husband.
A beautiful classic way to go out on! All the best for your upcoming adventure!
I just got turned onto your blog through one of my Facebook friends who sent an article about clothes capsules and in the article it mentioned your blogs name and it sounded very interesting…. Tomorrow – Saturday, I will be starting to purge my clothes (spring and summer) and use your fashion booklet you created on your blog site and get started on my 3 month adventure of starting my clothes capsule…… Thank you for your inspiration of something Sooo simple but yet profound…. Have fun in Seattle and I can’t wait to hear from you on your new blog when you come back…….
Joyfully Yours,
Jenny Austin
I missed your announcement yesterday, so it was a total surprise when I read your last blog today. You and I are about as opposite as two women can be. I am 70 years old. I work in a legal office and need to dress accordingly. Although I am in good shape for my age, I certainly do not have your young trim body!
And yet, I have learned a great deal from you. I now have fewer clothes and they work better together. I am committed to sewing my clothes and making them better quality. If I have 3 outfits for work, with interchangeable parts, that is enough. It makes it so much easier to get dressed in the morning. I could walk into the closet blindfolded and put myself together well.
What has been the biggest surprise is the maturity of your thoughts. Almost every day you have inspired me to be better, stronger, more adventurous. So I understand your completing the blog, although I must say I have been curious to see how the principles changed in the cold, rainy Northwest, especially since I an in SF with similar weather!
Thank you for your gift of yourself to us. You will be missed! Be well and continue the adventure. I have to believe we will hear from you again at a whole new level.
Caroline,
I just discovered your blog a few days ago after a link from a MindBodyGreen article. I had been thinking seriously about pairing down my wardrobe and really developing a “style”. Once I looked at your site and saw you’re incredibly helpful guides I am determined to live in harmony with the “less is more” mentality I already wanted to believe in.
Then I read this post. At first, I was a little devastated. I thought, I just found you – and now you’re leaving?!? But I realized that I have a years worth of reading to catch up on, something I couldn’t have done if you had continued to post at the same time. So in the end, I realized I appreciate this little hiatus! I wish you nothing but success in the move and cannot wait to read what comes next. Till then I’ll be doing my best to work with my capsule wardrobe!
Thank you again…..
Thanks so much, I loved your help with having less. But I also loved the way you wrote about life.
May the Lord bless you. Keep on writing, you have a gift.
What a classy way to go out :)Hope to hear from you soon.
Good luck with your adventures!
Sincerely, Tania
You know, I JUST found your blog yesterday!!! Seriously! I have been thinking of the idea of editing my wardrobe down all day because of your blog, thank you for the inspiration… I’m going to look through the archives to learn how to do it.all the best to you
megan
Megan, I also just discovered this log yesterday. I’m a bit overwhelmed at the idea of the capsule because I just don’t have a creative bone in me… And my closet is such a mismatch of things. I have a lot of stuff … And no particular style whatsoever. Also, I’m not thin like Caroline, so I feel I can’t “copy” a lot of her examples…. Maybe we could be acccountability partners in this journey? Just a thought…
So beautifully said. Enjoy your adventure.
1) Jeans and a white tee are my #1 favorite outfit2) Gonna miss you, girl. I’m so thrilled for you and your husband though. Seattle is wonderful.
Wishing you all the best on your new adventure. And I will not be surprised to run into you on the streets of Seattle! Thank you for you kindness and generosity!
Thank you for all the inspiration and education – you are a wonderful writer! Have fun exploring Seattle! Looking forward to hearing about your adventure! :-)
You’ve truly brought so much more meaning to this somewhat complicated world. Have the best adventure :) cc
Beautyful words. Have fun Next half year! And hope To see You after your adventure! Love your blog.
I just found your blog this morning via a link from another blog. You’ve inspired me so much. Best of luck with your next ventures! I will be referring to past posts as I build my very own capsule wardrobe.
m.
The very best of luck on your move. Have a safe trip!
Hello Caroline!
First things first: love your blog! I just discovered today and am kicking myself for not finding/reading/absorbing everything sooner. I absolutely love the idea of a capsule wardrobe….I think it will definitely change my outfit-wearing life for the better.
One question though: which camera do you use for your outfit pictures? I’m trying to go for a minimal approach with my own outfit blogposts and I adore the white wall thing you’ve got going on here. Any technology tips? Thanks :)
Good luck with your move to Seattle, can’t wait for updates.

Hi Caroline!I hope you read these comments.. :) I wanted to let you know your message has changed my life! I started last summer after finding your blog, and it has been an amazing journey. Thank you for taking the time do what you did. I felt inspired to start my own blog, and I feel strongly about encouraging other women. I am working hard to make it my own and differentiate from all the good work you’ve done here. Thanks again, and I am so excited to hear about what the future brings for you. Enjoy Seattle! You guys certainly picked the best time of year to head to the NW. ;)
Caroline,I can only wish that the blessing you have given returns ten fold!
I have settled into my first happy-place capsule this season (after a few stumbles) and although the scarcity mentality remains in some areas, I am thrilled that my wardrobe is not one of those places anymore.
Best of luck on your adventures!
I’ve enjoyed reading un-fancy over the past year – I love your style and your outlook on life. Thanks for the inspiration :)
Best wishes on your next adventure and I will be anxiously awaiting your return! I only started blogging 3 weeks ago, but you are a huge inspiration as I simplify my wardrobe and style and re-discover what I truly love. Thank you!!
Sweet Caroline, you are a rare and beautiful soul who has added so much value to so many other souls. I’m going to miss you.
You said it Sister! Kindness begets kindness. It’s infectious. Just like being negative or mean or bitter. So why not? Let’s all try to be kind. You never know the joy spreading. And the love! Good luck in Seattle!! We’ll still be here in 6 months <3
Hey Caroline! Good for you… taking a break is always a good thing. Hope you return refreshed and renewed. I just discovered your blog on Friday, and decided to give your capsule wardrobe idea a go. I spent yesterday afternoon decluttering my closet. I’m thrilled with the result (and a bit dumbstruck by how much STUFF I have). I am sick and tired of struggling to find something reasonably attractive and comfortable to wear to work every morning. I am almost always late as a result. I think this is going to help me with that…
At any rate, THANK YOU, for the inspiration. I’ll let you know how it goes. Have fun in Seattle!
I just found your blog and am devastated that you are on hiatus! I was so looking forward to seeing your outfits for spring! I love your style and the idea of a capsule wardrobe. I am working on incorporating it into my wardrobe, though since I work in an office I will have to tweak it some.
Congratulations on being featured in WhoWhatWear for April 26! This blog has definitely taken on a life of its own even with a six-month hiatus. I love the fact that you accomplished exactly what you set out to do (according to the FAQ) back in March 2014–and it just works! Visually one of the best around–clean minimal design, great photos and wearable clothes I really like, too.
I’m brand new to Unfancy and am currently working on my Spring Wardrobe Capsule! Thank you for the guidance, and best of luck with your new adventures! I hope you’re still reading comments, because I need (like NEED) to know everything you can tell me about your hair cut and how you style it. I want it. :)
Wow! I JUST discovered your web site today thanks to Dallas Moms Blog. I am so inspired to start working on my wardrobe and using all the tools here. I have been searching for something like this for a while now. The philosophy goes along with a book I just finished, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, where the whole idea is keep only things that spark joy. I was having a hard time with my wardrobe. Thank you, thank you!!!!
Thank you Caroline for all the inspiration you have provided (and to be honest style and clothes was the least of it in my book – you have given so much more food for thought). I’m certain you’ll always have something to say, whether about capsule wardrobes or not. I wish you all the very best for the future, whatever it may bring.
Will miss you! Enjoy settling into your new city <3
Welcome to Washington! When you need a break from Seattle, take a short trip north to Bellingham on a sunny day. Make sure to walk on Taylor Dock to Woods Coffee and enjoy Boulevard Park. I’ve lived here my whole life and still find it breath taking! Also spend some time hiking through Whatcom Falls, and have a lovely lunch at Brandywine Kitchen or La Fiamma, then wander around Village Books and the other quirky shops in South Bellingham (Fairhaven). {Search Pinterest or IG for lots of images of those places.} :)
I’ll miss your daily mail but am happy to see you try something new in your lifeI listened to your JessLively interview and it was great to put a voice to the face. You sound like such a happy and content person. Best of luck.
Good luck! I’m seriously going to miss popping in here every day for my little dose of style and positivity. Wishing you all the best in your grand adventure!
Good luck and enjoy your road trip!
I know this comment is kind of unrelated, but… I think it’s so funny that you talk about Ben Zander! I am a violinist and I auditioned for BPYO (the Boston Philharmonic) a few years ago. Although I ended up choosing another orchestra to play for, I still find it incredible that I was able to briefly talk to and play for a person who inspires you and others so much!
I wish you luck on your new adventures :)
Thank you too and good luck! You made my wardrobe more simply. It was very nice to see you here :)See you soon :)

Have a nice break! Just thought I’d say I enjoyed your posts and your overall idea. Some people don’t get it..you know spending less on clothes, cutting down the clutter, only buying things you truly like. I read comments about how no one could possibly only wear 37 things per season and “where are the work clothes?” and “why limited yourself-its so boring” or “her clothes are boring colors”. sheesh, you would think people might realize that they can come up with their own color scheme. What they completely miss is your message of understanding who you are (and sometimes that means taking away distractions-in this case excess clothes). Please keep on with what you’re doing because there are some of us who get it! It’s the simplest idea that has sparked the biggest appeal for those who get your concept and who you’ve inspired to do this same. Thanks!
I admire what you’ve done and what you are doing. You made a difference in my life!
I’m sad to see you go, because I read your blog every day! I’ll miss it, but I want to thank you so much for your words that have encouraged me to view my clothes in a more meaningful way, and to spend less time, money and brainpower on dressing myself each day.
It’s been so inspiring.
All the best on your new journey! How exciting!
Just as you’re wrapping up this year and starting a new chapter, I’m newly discovering your blog and the idea of a capsule wardrobe – VERY much looking forward to exploring the archives as I get started, and wishing you only wonderful things to come! :)
I love what you’re doing with this site… So inspired to take another look at my wardrobe and pare it down.
Let’s see what I can get rid of now!

Just having started reading your blog a month ago, I am about to start planning for my summer wardrobe (it gets hot here early!). I was waiting to see what your 37 pieces for summer was going to be but I guess I’ll just have to wait! Thank you for putting something up on the web that really makes a day-to-day difference in my life and the lives of others! All the best in Seattle.
Wow Caroline, your ‘last words’ really made my day. You’re really inspiring when it comes to spreading kindness – for oneself and for others. Have a great time in Seattle and I hope to hear again from you at some point.
i am so glad I found your blog. I love your style. so inspiring. Thank youhttp://www.lovingyoume.blogspot.com
I’m one of the legions that has recently discovered your blog and I love it and your message! You are so lucky to be able to pick up and go and have adventures, do it!! Enjoy!! We can’t wait to hear from you when you return! (big closet purge coming for me this week, although living in Boston, I feel like I need a 6 season capsule wardrobe! Thank you for the inspiration!)
Please come back soon! I just found your blog! I need you in my life lol!
[…] mit ihrem unfancy, aber superentspanntem Alltags-Look, den ich haargenau so tragen […]
Caroline – I am wishing you all the best luck, but I find it so ironic that you posted your last post and now I am seeing your blog BLOW UP on my Facebook feed! So, you are still reaching people, even though you are silent over here.
Ugh I miss you so much already! Most inspiring, uplifting blog.Best of luck in Seattle!
you’re so darn awesome…. looking forward to your return…. so happy you’re taking a pause…
Great outfit! Simple but very comfortable. I like your style! Hannah, Makeup Artist
I just stumbled upon this blog…oh. my. gosh. You are inspiring-I so appreciate you putting this all out there-you have helped me so much. I read so much of your blog, made some changes…and I now have stuff to wear. I look forward to reading more when you come back, and I cannot wait to build a capsule from scratch. You are awesome for doing what you do-and your style is great. :) Have a great break-you deserve it. <3
Just wanted to say thank you. Found your blog not too long ago after we transitioned to a one bedroom apartment from a house and found myself very aware of all the STUFF suffocating me. I found your blog and it turned the process of letting go of clothes into a self-discovery for me. The combination of being comfortable “dressing like me” as well as letting go of everything that doesn’t inspire my heart (from belief systems, to extra shoes) has been revolutionary. I just wanted to tell you your blog played a beautiful role in this on-going process for me.
I am digging up the archives and starting Winter Capsule 1.0 this year. With your guidance, I am sure 6 months will fly by and we will see the return of Unfancy with a new direction and more exciting content. You will be very much missed Caroline! x
Hi Caroline ! I felt a bit sad when I read your post because I discovered your blog just a week ago – what a shame ! Anyway, I love it, it is really inspiring (37 pieces in your wardrobe, never could have imagined that !) and I have plenty of time to read your old posts (and pin your outfits on Pinterest !) (and try to downsize my wardrobe !) until you come back from your trip ;). I wish you all the best and hope to read you soon !
Hi Caroline,I love your blog!
I found your blog four days ago, and I’ve already gotten rid of 12 bags of clothes! My roommate said she didn’t know where I was keeping them all – but I definitely LOVE the SPACE in my closet and drawers!!
I had a life change a year ago. I went from being a full time nanny, to being a fitness instructor – but I still had all the “real” clothes from when I was a nanny, and I still collected more! Just a habit I think!
I LOVE that I can see my “real” clothes now, and I feel a huge weight lifted. Finally a closet that reflects my life now.
I DO love that I am “allowed” to keep all my fitness wear. Although I am proud of myself for getting rid of fitness clothes that I haven’t worn in over a year. I have space to see what I have in regards to fitness wear too – so great!
Thank you, thank you for your inspiration!
A weight has been lifted,
Amy
Ps, I live in Seattle, so I’m looking forward to seeing if your style changes once you move here :) Welcome to Seattle!
In a way I’m devastated that this will be the last post for awhile, simply because I have just found you through several sources that were singing your praise so much that I couldn’t resist investigating further. Yet I understand life’s constant changes and I want to thank you for leaving this blog here, so at the very least I can learn from your experience. The idea of such a simplistic wardrobe has won my heart and I am now striving to achieve such wonderful minimalism. Thank you for sharing this idea with me and giving such great examples, your style is exactly my taste (though some have called me boring!). I hope your next adventure is an amazing one and hopefully someday I’ll be able see part of its fruition! Good luck with whatever comes your way next :)!!
Dear, Caroline! As it was previously written by many others, you will be terribly missed! But I have a feeling, that you will come back to us with even more fun and great ideas!Good luck to you on your next life’s journey!!!
No, no, no! Don’t leave me like this! You have been such an inspiration. I discovered the idea of capsule wardrobes here. I just created my first one. It took a long time, so long that it’s a spring/summer capsule, but the point is that it’s how I dress now. It has changed my life, and turned me into a capsule wardrobe evangelist. Thank you so much for teaching me how to gift myself with more time to do the things I love, instead of spending it sifting through piles of clothing I don’t like, don’t feel good in, and will (probably) never wear. See you in a few months!
I just wanted to thank you for all the effort in sharing your clothing processes. It is never easy to put ourselves out there, for all the world to see but I am most thankful you did. I have thoroughly enjoyed your posts & have learned a ton about myself all the while.
On a side note, my 20 year old niece, has recently started reading your older posts, in attempt to get her clothing life in order as her life is weighted down by too many fun pieces.
I wish you great joy in your travels & while this is purely selfish, I do hope you feel like coming back to your blog.
I love your blog and inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing this with all of us! You will be missed, but enjoy your new journey and best wishes!!
I’m so disappointed to read that you are taking a break! Just when I FINALLY find the most amazing blog! Haha, go figure! I spent the last night up til midnight reading through old posts and they are so inspiring! Ive been wanting to pair down and try the capsule wardrobe for year, but I just told my husband last night, you make it seem so do able- especially because we have similar style! I hope you have an amazing adventure, but I so desperately hope you return!
You have succeeded and I am so grateful for what you gave me and my closet. I hope you love Seattle. I am from washington and have many loved ones in Seattle. It is a pretty magical creative place. Keep your chin up on those rainy days and relish in the sunny ones. See you on instagram!- sweetantique
Hey there! Just found your blog yesterday and I am soooooo excited to have found a style blog with a philosophy that I relate to. I’ve been tentatively trying some of these principles for a few years now, but I needed a little more structure and inspiration to really commit to the idea and I’m so glad I found your project. I hope your move goes well …. I’m originally from Portland, OR, so the Pacific Northwest is near and dear to my heart. I hope it’s a great adventure for you both. You’re going to need a great rain jacket and some sturdy, waterproof boots for sure, LOL. Looking forward seeing what comes next for you!!!
I just found your blog less than a week ago! It took me about a week to work through alllll of the archives, and I’m so sad that you are currently taking a break from blogging, but looking forward to following your Pacific Northwest adventure on IG!
Just wearing jeans and a white tee-shirt can still let you look like you should be in a magazine. Great post, thanks!
I like simple! Great blog! I hope you have a nice break!
You inspired me to start my own challenge: Wearing only 25 things for a year (I wrote about it here: http://www.youchangeyou.net/minimalism-one-year-challenge/) in case you are interested.
I miss you!!!
I just discovered your blog and I am a big fan-you are such an inspiracion!Kisses,M.

I discovered your blog after I returned from vacation early last month and Googled “minimalist fashion”during my late night internet surfing on my phone while I lay in bed. I was emotionally exhausted (as in emotionally very very tired of it) that night because this was me: had an overflowing disheveled closet, never have anything “nice” to wear, spend/shop way too much/ too often, donating then buying more clothes, and never looking quite put together or someone who has any style (in fact may even looked like a fashion victim a lot of times that I cared to admit). I was starting to feel really ashamed of myself because though my husband never complained about the time and money I spent on clothing.
I also picked up Marie Kondo’s book. So far I’ve donated umm…countless of boxes of clothes. I thought about selling them for $$ but I was exhausted from them I just wanted to get rid of all of them. I ran my hands through them and thanked them for the momentary joy they gave me when I bought them. Purging my closet was nerve racking…so much money wasted….but what a great feeling having them unloaded off my shoulders!!
I probably don’t even 37 items in my wardrobe now and I’m still in the process of buying the essentials to what I now have a clear picture of as “MY style.” I realize I am still spending a lot of time looking for my essentials but I’m no longer an emotional shopper. I can walk into stores, even my favorite stores, (which by the way are the same go-to stores as yours) and not feel like I need to buy anything. Actually, I don’t even really feel like I NEED to walk into a clothing store as much as I used to anymore!!! What a great feeling!
I’ve also purged our home of crap that we never use or need. I have even minimalized our kitchen from silverwares to cookwares and furnitures! Just yesterday I had family take off our hands our treadmill we never used, the formal ginormous dining table we never used (intended for gatherings we intended but never did have in our house), and the TV stand I never quite liked. Our flat screen is now just hanging on the wall. I am just going to enjoy all this space for now. :)
THANK YOU for making me realize my style. I have so much more to say about how discovering your blog (and MK’s book) has changed my life but I’m not sure if you even read these now you’re on blogging hiatus. But thank you. You gave me the push to the right direction that I always knew I was meant for. I just didn’t know how to start or get there.
I’m also in Seattle. Wish I could see your capsule while you’re here but I totally understand.
Enjoy! This is a great time to be here!
Hi Caroline! I just discovered your blog and fell in love with this concept. Love you neutral and fashion style, mine is not far from it.I have a small blog in portuguese and have translated some of your phylosophy, hope you don’t mind about that, I just felt so inspired that I had to write something about it.
Planning to start it soon! It’s already autumn in Brazil, but maybe I can make it happen on winter.
Missing you, Caroline! So glad your posting on Instagram so we can still get a peek at all the fabulous things your up to :) Hope you’re enjoying your break!
Hi Caroline!
I can’t believe I discovered your blog now, when you are taking a break. :-) I just wanted to let you know that your blog is fabulous and I am enjoying going through your older posts and getting some inspiration for my summer wardrobe. Thank you for coming up with such a brilliant idea. It finally gave me the courage to REALLY go through my closet and get organized. I hope that you will continue the blog after a much deserved break. Have fun in Seattle!
Love you simple and beautiful style! you have great fashion sense! :)

I just found your blog and was stalking. I can catch up on the posts and be ready when you come back. :-)
I thought I liked you before but I just finished listening to your interview on the lively show and now I know I’ll follow you where ever you go. I love what you’ve been doing, what you are doing and I am so excited to see what you will be doing.
Thanks again for putting yourself out there, I’ve personally learned so much from my capsule journey with you. I’ve come away self examined and enriched and with a closet and dresser that can finally breathe.
My grandmother always said not to be the first to the party or the last to leave, I think this break is timely and you’re leaving us all wanting more, even if it ends up as a a capsule kitchen, we’ll probably take it ;)

I want to do a capsule wardrobe, but I just was wondering something. If you wear everyday something else.
Like how many times a week do you wash something?
I’m so excited to be starting my Summer capsule! My Spring capsule was my first, and I’ve definitely learned some things in the past 3 months. I can’t wait for you to return and see what other inspiration you provide me!
This is proving to be one of the longest 6 months! Hope you guys are having a blast. But please :) hurry back!
You dress just like a brazilian! Brazil is a (very) hot country and we had to learn how to dress less clothes but still look good. Ah, you look fancy girl, believe me! Xoxo
I don’t know how you are lasting through this break! I took a month long hiatus from my own blog and felt a little empty without that creative outlet – and just turned it back on. Anyway, I just wanted to write a heartfelt thank you for having been chosen in the semi-finalist ring of your guest blogger contest. I had a great time applying and being a part of it.
I hope you are enjoying Seattle :)
And I can’t wait for your return with a new perspective on life!
Sincerely, Tania
As I read it seems you are going to move to another city!I have been moving since I was 19 years old, from one continent to another… And really, the only thing I can tell you with all my respect, that is the better thing you can do! You can discover so much new things in life, and above all you learn how far you can fight to reach for your own dreams…! So just do it, you will be happy :)
By the way, love your style! You are so casual, so feminine, so elegant, classy… Simplicity is for me the most beautiful way to dress!
I would love to make a capsule of my wardrobe but it is almost impossible because I have studied Pattern Maker and Fashion Designer, so I love to sew and create new stuff… My wardrobe is crazy full of samples and stuff hehehe!
Have a nice day, and a nice travel too!

What makes you beautiful
Hi Caroline – I think you have changed my life!!
I’m just stumbling upon your blog after hearing a lot lately about “capsule wardrobes” and doing some poking around online for fall clothes (it’s been a continuous 90-something degrees and 300% humidity in ATL for the past 5 weeks so I’m ready for autumn!) I’ve been so unhappy with my wardrobe choices (in particular my fall/winter one) for SO LONG and all I’ve done is throw money at cheap clothes to try and make it better – year after year after year.
I have printed your fabulous planner and started working on it this afternoon -what a valuable tool!! I can’t wait to do the most important step – take everything out of my closet and start making those piles. It will be interesting to see how much I already have that already meets the criteria for the capsule wardrobe. Hope all is well in Seattle and that you’re having a great adventure. I look forward to you posting again in the near future and I’m definitely following on Instagram. Thanks so much for sharing your perspective, insights and all the great information!

I just finished your complete blogging story and I’m so glad I found it today! Your blog was just what I needed to read! It made me laugh, pause, write and celebrate my future!
I will look for your future postings and wish you peace, joy and excitement in Seattle!
