Happy Monday! How about a few happy things to lift your mood today?
1 | Bergamot essential oil | I just discovered this one over the weekend, and it’s quickly become my favorite smell in the world — calming, but uplifting with notes of citrus. It’s a natural stress reliever, too. I like to put it in my diffuser and mix it with a few drops of lavender.
2 | There’s a brand new issues of the Magnolia Journal | Okay, I can’t hold my excitement in any longer — I got to write a piece on capsule wardrobes for this issues! I know! It was an absolute honor and I took it as an opportunity to reframe capsules in a completely lighthearted and easygoing way — the direction my life and blog are headed. I’m excited to share more about it, but for now, find a copy from Lowe’s, Target, or Barnes and Noble.
3 | John Mayer’s new album is out | Or at least the first four songs of it are out — he’s releasing the album in 4 song “waves” over the next few months. Cool. The song “Moving On and Getting Over” in particular gives me the happy feels — give it a listen on Spotify.
4 | It’s Galentine’s day and tomorrow is Valentine’s day | So get out there and show some love.
Now, let’s shift over to this outfit real quick. I’d wear this outfit just about anywhere — errands during the day or out to dinner at night. Here are a few style notes:
- Comfortable elements combined | I was down with some kind of bug over the weekend, and even though I’m feeling better, I still want to feel a little cocooned today. So I went with a loose sweater on top, soft, non-restrictive jeans on bottom, and clogs with an easy 2 inch heel.
- Rolled sleeves | It’s a tiny detail, but that loose roll makes the whole thing look styled.
- Neutral color palette | Even though I’m all about comfort today, I’m still keeping things chic with an all-neutral palette of black, brown, and wheat.
And that’s that! Got a happy thing to add to the list up top? I’m all about it. Life can get crazy — let’s make room for a bit of play, a bit of good. Share away in the comments.
See you tomorrow!

I adore the idea of this outfit for dinner and though it’s casual, it seems like it would be easy to do add an updo or dress it up more with accessories. Love it!
Hi Caroline,
I had an incredible weekend with a lot of things happening around, surprising me in a nice way and this gave me the energy to go to work today and feel calm and happy even if the weather is cold and cloudy and I have a lot to do.
It would be great to share some of the Magnolia Journal with us, I know yu are a fan of the Gaines and I am sure it was a great pleasure for you to add a piece of your ideas to their journal. Congratulations!
PS I like your sweater and purse. Love those colours!
Not much fan of these type of clogs, those grey clogs sandals you have are my fav but I trust you they are comfortable :D
When you are sick, do you have specific comfy pieces you wear or do you just wear loungewear?
You totally rock the sweater/jeans look, I have never seen anyone who does it better, when I see you photos I always have slight style envy but they are also very inspirational. You have a certain French look by the way, I say that from someone who lives in France! have a great week x
What a compliment! Thank you :)
I’ve been following your blog for a while now, and it’s largely thanks to you that I became more aware of mindful and ethical shopping. I watched The True Cost yesterday and for me personally it was a harsh reality check on what the fashion industry is doing to our world. I was aware of fast fashion not being ethical (as tends to be the case with everything fast and cheap), but you don’t really grasp the magnitude of it all without looking into the subject properly.
So, today is for feeling disillusioned with the fashion industry and consumerism. I have a couple of parcels already arriving this month, but I’m starting by doing a no-buy commitment now for the next couple of months. No more patching holes in my wardrobe with new things. I’ll challenge myself to work with what I’ve got!
Good for you, Veera! I think it’ll pay off in the long run. :)
I love the little details of this outfit, especially the rolled sleeves! Hope you have a lovely Valentines’s Day, Caroline! x

Thank you, Sheila and same to you! :)
I’ve been eyeing that exact bottle of bergamot essential oil for months now, and you’ve just encouraged me to place the order. I used to have this amazing bergamot perfume from L’Occitane that was a limited seasonal scent, and I’m hoping to recreate it – or something like it – with my own oils. Besides, I’m ready to chase away the winter gray with some citrusy, uplifting smells!
As always, thank you for your lovely blog, and lovely self!
I got the Magnolia Journal at Whole Foods over the weekend. Congrats, Caroline!
Thank you, Emily! :)
Yes, I was flipping through a copy at B and N and was like “I know that girl”…which is funny because I don’t know you! But I was still excited for you! Great job…there’s no one better to talk about capsuling than you! Congrats!!!
I didn’t know John Mayer came out with a new album! Hallelujah :) And we actually have a Bergomot tree here at home. The leaves and fruit smell divine! Maybe I can learn how to make an essential oil with it. xx
Ooooh Marie, that sounds amazing. :)
Congrats on the article! My happy thing is interview clothes. The shopping is killing me (trying to find classic items that I can keep forever, but I’m super picky about comfort) and it’s really bummed me out this weekend. Then last night I found out my perfect shoes. I couldn’t find my size. I called the shoe company today, and they are not actually discontinued but will be back in stock in my size in two weeks which is plenty of time. :-) YAY!
Woohoo! Happy it worked out :)
Thank you! I really needed happy stuff today.
thanks for the John Mayer rec….so, so good. on repeat.
Ah! Thanks for sharing about John Mayer’s new album – I was just talking about him yesterday to a friend but didn’t know he was releasing new songs! My husband will be very excited.
Also, because I’m so over the pressure to buy a new outfit for Valentine’s day (or wear pink!), I’m keeping things easy and shared some outfit ideas inspired by decades past (all from my own closet- with not one cent spent!). You can check it out here if you’d like. :)

Happy Galentine’s!
I bought the Magnolia Journal over the weekend because I saw the headline about Jo’s capsule wardrobe. I was excited to see that you wrote the article!
i got the latest issue of magnolia journal in the mail over the weekend & i saw the mention of joanna’s capsule wardrobe on the cover. so, as i started to read the article, i was assuming joanna wrote it but i couldn’t help but think it sounded so much like your capsule experience! i flashed over to the byline a few paragraphs in and i was like, YES! it IS caroline. so funny. i love joanna but i was worried that she was totally taking credit for the idea. nice work!
Haha! That’s too funny, Kayla :)
Caroline!! I picked up the spring Magnolia Journal today and about wet myself when I saw you had an article in it- congratulations!! I am so excited for you. It was fun to see a familiar name in the magazine. Also- I’m dying that you got to go through Joanna’s clothes… so cool!! Can’t wait to hear more about your experience.
Thanks so much, Chelsea! :)
How cool that you were in the Magnolia Journal! I hope you can share more about your experience. :)
I’ve been really into essential oils at the moment. I’ve been loving “orange” because its Summer here and just smells so fresh! But my god I am missing Winter and being able to wear knits! Love this outfit, you are a genius at making a casual look, look so done!
Hello! I am a new follower here. I love your style and your blog inspires me. I am right in the middle of downsizing. I work in a casual office, so I can be pretty relaxed but still need to look put together. Finding the right pieces (or keeping / giving up ) is where I am at right now. I was a stay at home mom for nearly 10 years, so transitioning while still keeping my style has proven a little challenging. :) Looking forward to reading more from you.
Hi Caroline, I love your outfit. Gorgeous.
Bergamot essential oil is one of my favorites. Thank you for reminding me that. I’m buying one today!

Carolyn- Here’s an EO recipe that you might enjoy as much as I do:
“Calming, Uplifting, Increased Concentration”
In a diffuser:
2 dr Bergamot
3 dr Wild Orange
3 dr grapefruit
2 dr Lemon
*Make sure you are using a Certified Pure Therapuetic Grade oil!
Have a wonderful day :)
I just bought a copy of Magnolia Journal at Lowe’s! I haven’t read it yet, but even more excited now! Congratulations!
I love to mix Bergamot and Vetiver. I love Young Living because they grow oils from the seed and are involved in every part of the process and fanatical about producing a pure product. I didn’t really care about oils brands, but last year I stopped at a lavender farm in Utah. I’m sold.
I absolutely love your hair! Would love if you did a video tutorial on how you nail those perfect waves.
Thank you for recommending Matt and Bow jeans!!! I just got the Mid-Rise Skinny in Orchard and LOVE them. I’ve been searching for the perfect black/dark gray jeans for months and these are it.
Yay Makenzie! That makes me so happy :)
Congrats on the magazine feature! I was so excited when I saw it!!!!
I’ve been loving the Magnolia Journal recently! How exciting that you got to take part in it!
