Capsule #2 // Outfit 4

Okay, I’m just going to say it: I wasn’t sure about midi skirts at first. As much as I love putting together a good outfit, I thought my style was just too, well, unfancy for midi skirts. But then I found this super lightweight one with a beautiful drape and a leather wrapped waist. And I decided to give it a try.

My method for trying new styles? (a) Pair it with something I know and love already. Like a good tee and a pair of glasses. (b) Get it in a color that doesn’t make me nervous. Neon melon is out. Black is a safe bet.

Glasses: Warby Parker

Tee: Piperlime

Skirt: Express

Shoes: Steve Madden

Bag: Madewell

Hi Laura! :) I ordered my normal size and it fit great, however the waist band doesn’t stretch or give at all, so maybe that’s why people are mentioning that it runs small. xoxo Caroline

Hey Caroline! I’m Nancy’s sister. I just whittled down my closet to about 40 items, and I LOVE it! I did it for my kids, too! Nancy told me all about your blog today and how I would love it! And I love it so much! I can’t wait to follow along. I love your clear cut and simple rules! I love the planning & shopping for the next season. And your outfits are already soo adorable! Can’t wait to learn some style from YOU! xoxox

P.S. I totally have that wallet/clutch from Madewell and it’s amazing. We have such great taste. ;)

Wondering how those shoes feel? I love your style. I have been doing Project 333 for a year now but have been feeling uninspired lately.

Hi Shan! Thanks for your comment! Hontesly, I just don’t do uncomfortable shoes, and it takes a lot for me to want to wear a heel. But these shoes passed my test–they are comfortable for standing/walking all day. :) xoxo Caroline

I agree with Caroline. I bought the black version a few months ago. They are my go-to shoe for sure! Always getting compliments, and I can stand in the ALL day! Concerts, walking to a restaurant a few miles away, even playing backyard corn-hole in! The leather is extremely soft and the heal is solid.

[…] This is the section where I splurged a little more. Why? Because great bottoms can elevate a simple top. Most of my going-out looks are made up of a simple top with a statement bottom, like this outfit. […]
