Happy Friday!
This week, we’ve looked at four different ways to style this silk top — now it’s time for our fourth and final look!
This outfit may look a little familiar — it was one of my looks for the Spring 10×10 challenge! But it seems only right that it make an appearance on the blog again — I probably wear some version of it every 10 days. Lately, it’s been my go-to “dressy” outfit — black denim + black silk tee + a statement necklace. Done and done.
Black denim and a black silk tee has become my new version of a little black dress. I know I prefer landing on the casual end of the style spectrum, but this combo always feels appropriate — not too dressy or too casual. It works for date nights, concerts, and friend hang-outs.
How about if we take a look back over the week? Here are all four looks together:
If this little collage tells you anything, it’s that this top can work with lots of different styles. It’s just all about what you pair with it.
The two trendier looks are on the top left and bottom right — one with overalls and one with cutoff shorts and lace up sandals. Then I’ve got two classic looks on the top right and bottom left — one with skinny jeans and flip flops, and today’s look with black jeans and a statement necklace.
So tell me, what was your favorite outfit this week?
Even though I regularly wear both today’s outfit and Tuesday’s outfit, I think my favorite this week was the overalls outfit — they surprised me with how well they worked! The cutoff shorts outfit was definitely my least favorite, but I could see it working well for the right event — maybe a patio/wine situation? Sounds nice right about now. :)
I hope you have the happiest weekend and I’ll see you on Monday!

Hi Caroline – I’ve had my eye on the Copper U necklace for awhile, but I can’t quite decide which color leather to get. I was leaning toward the beige, because it looks like a pretty cream on the website, but yours looks more like a true beige in these photos (and actually it looks close in color to the copper portion of the necklace). Which description do you feel is more accurate? TIA!
Hey Krystal! Beige and cream are really, really similar and in my mind cream tends to be ever-so-slightly more yellow. This one is a true beige, I believe. :)
Hi Krystal,
I bought it and was thinking the same thing. Just got it today (Thanks Caroline, it looks great!!) and it looks just like Caroline’s, a true beige, not the lighter color that is on the site.
My favorite is definitely the denim shorts look, the boxy top and slim bottom are a perfect proportion.
Also love that you added the brown necklace for today’s outfit, it really ties everything together!

The necklace you have chosen this time with the silk blouse is the cherry on the top! I love this look!

What’s always comes to mind, when you do a series like this, is how easy it is to pack for a long weekend this way. OR as you prove to have power horses in your closet that don’t take up all the real estate! My favorite for your is the overalls…for me the blue jeans are a hit. Have a lovely weekend!-Laurel Bledsoe
I love the look of the neckline of that tee and shape of the sleeves with the long, flat necklace on an otherwise simple outfit. It lets the color combo and texture of the materials shine! Really love. I am a non-jeans girl and this outfit could just as easily be done with a slim, long skirt for a more glam look or black leggings (or black wax coated or leather leggings!!!) for a more casual/edgy look. Your ideas are just giving me more ideas!!!
I definitely love the overall look the best – totally a surprise that it works so well – but the blue jean and sandal look is also lovely and feels so authentic to you :)

Hi Caroline, I like outfit 2 and 3 the best as I am not into overalls or shorts. However they suit you very well.
How would you style the outfits if it was colder? With a cardigan or a jumper?
Lena from Germany
Hey Lena! Absolutely! I think I’d wear a cardigan over the overalls for sure. The shorts might just need to be exchanged for pants if it was much cooler though. :)
That necklace is awesome and looks like it was made for that top!

I love your style but somehow I feel like you’re following the same formula all the time! I would love to see you stepping out of your comfort zone a little more.
Hi Kay, thanks for the feedback! I think I like a good formula, especially when trying out new pieces or showing ways to remix pieces. Sometimes it just works! :)
i think this is my fav of the four :)

Definitely LOVE the overalls look. But you know what? I surprisingly love the black on black look today even more! It’s so simple yet elegant and I really like that it is casual and dressy at the same time. Will definitely be trying this one out soon! Happy Fri-YAY!

P.S. – I know I am 2 weeks late, but I just finished my first 10×10 challenge and am so, so happy with how it turned out. Thank you so much for inspiring me to take part in this challenge and to be more mindful about the clothing I’m wearing. I had too many deadlines happening when you and Lee hosted it a few weeks back, but I’m definitely on board to do it again in the summer with you! (P.S. I had a huge revelation about my concept of “fashion” in my Day 9 post if you have time to take a look!) Have a great weekend, girlie!
So glad to hear that! Thanks for sharing, Kristin! :)
These are all great outfits, Caroline, with symmetry and variety. Thanks for sharing it all. Have a great weekend, Ardith
This is my fave – so classic but still interesting, there’s something about it that just works. I have a black linen Georgia Tee coming my way and was worried I wouldn’t be able to pair it with black bottoms (my fave!), so this is good to see.
I’m sure you’ll love it, Celia! :)
Beautiful styling of the tee. That circle bag is beautiful.

This last outfit is definitely my favourite! It’s just really chic, I think! Your necklace is really nice, you should wear it more often! The overalls outfit is the runner up – I’d say definitely put your Central shirt in there! I wear my overalls with my Courier shirts all the time, and those are similarly boxy, right? It fits in with your whole half-bulky, half-skinny philosophy, which I also dig. :) Happy weekend!
Definitely need to try that combo. Thanks Gwen! :)
Hi Caroline! I love your blog and really admire how true you are to yourself with your style as shown by making the ES work for you rather than following their usual aesthetic!! It’s a great reflection, along with your openness, and has inspired me so much. Xoxo
Love love love the shoes you’re wearing with this one. <3

I love today’s look and I love that you called it your version of a little black dress! I too wear mostly casual clothes but love when I can make them look put together and dressier sometimes. :-) That said, it is fun to see one piece of clothing look so different and fun each day.
Totally agree with you, Marta. I wear top + black pants instead of an LBD almost every time!
I googled “blogger minimalist” and viola! came upon unfancy!
I started paring down my wardrobe about two years ago, but got caught up on trends posted on other blogs and fast fashion. Reading your old posts have inspired me to re-examine how I think of consumption and my style. I did the capsule planner again and was surprised to find how much my style has changed even in the last year! As I get older, I notice that I gravitate towards things that comfort and pleases ME. Thank you again. Looking forward to more inspiration!
Cheers!
I love when you do a Style Series like this one — I always feel so full of ideas after seeing the many ways you style the pieces in your closet! My favorite look is today’s black + black look. I love seeing the same color in two different textures next to each other. The cognac touches and necklace give the look such character and pull it all together! Love!
I like Tuesday’s outfit the best, although I would wear it with ankle boots or sneakers.
Beautiful look

The last one is my fav for sure!
Hey Caroline! The overalls will always be my fave because they are so comfy and playful. I liked the new silhouette, although my overalls come up too high on the sides to do this. I was going to experiment with a cold-shoulder sweater under them to try something new. I’d also love to see your new peachy-pink t-shirt in there. :)
That said, black jeans are an amazing LBD alternative and definitely my go-to!!
Love your stuff and keep up the hard work!
Love your Style.
