10x10 Wardrobe Challenge, Outfits: Spring, remix series, spring outfits

spring 10×10: outfit 10

04/21/17

We did it! Ten pieces, ten days, ten outfits! WOOHOO!

Lee of Style Bee and I had so much fun hosting this challenge, and I think it’s time for all of us to pat ourselves on the back for a second. Even if you didn’t quite make it all the way to ten. Even if you lost steam mid-way through. No matter whether you feel it was a “success” or a “failure” — the fact remains: you tried something new and learned from it. That’s worth celebrating.

Ready to get into to this last outfit? Let’s do it. :)

First Impressions

Hat? Lace up sandals? Comfy dress? Well, hello there vacation mode!

Aaron and I are hanging out in Las Vegas today. On the agenda? Nothing really — just exploring the city and goofing off. So I’m wearing this comfortable, yet put-together dress and flat sandals to keep my feet happy.

Later tonight, we’re headed out for dinner. I had every intention to sign off of the 10×10 challenge a few hours early so I could wear a cool outfit for the show. But guess what I ended up wanting to wear? My version of dressed up comfort: a black silk tee and my black skinny jeans — both of which are in my 10 pieces. Hah, awesome. :)

Styling Notes

SPRING-IFY A BLACK DRESS | I don’t really care what the fashion rules say — I love wearing black all year round. But I do love to lighten it up a little bit in the spring and summer. The easiest way to lighten up black clothes? Do what I did here — sandwich a black dress between springy accessories, like a straw hat, lace up sandals, and a fun bag. Done and done!

PUT A HAT ON IT (WHEN NEEDED) | I probably won’t rock this hat all day, because I only like wearing hats when they serve a purpose, like for warmth or shade. When I’m inside, no need for shade. But when I’m outside, either by the pool or walking the block, I’ll wear it for a little extra shade.

ACCESSORIES, AGAIN! | I wore this exact set of accessories two days ago, and I’m totally okay with repeating it. I love the combination of the straw hat, bag, and sandals — and I especially love that they’re all essentially the same color. Will I ever get off the matching accessories train? Who’s to say? But I’m happy here while it lasts. :)

And there you have it!

Make sure to hop on over to Lee’s blog to see her outfit today, too!

So tell me, if you joined in the challenge, would you consider doing it again? Got any specific questions about my remix? Share away in the comments!

See you Monday! I’ll be sharing what I learned during this 10×10 — can’t wait to dig in! Start thinking about what you learned during the challenge, too, because I’m definitely going to ask you about it on Monday. :) I can’t wait to hear what you guys learned about your own individual style. In the meantime, I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

xo,

This outfit is so you and so cute! I feel like this was your best 10×10 challenge yet! Every outfit was so perfect! Wasn’t quite on board with lace up sandals at first, but you made a great case for wearing them so many different ways.

Have a great time in Vegas and a great weekend : )

I was so psyched for this challenge, but I lost my motivation because I can’t figure out how to take good pics, and we got a lot more chilly rainy days than I anticipated, so my pieces didn’t quite work.mi still haven’t worn my black tank dress, and the dresses I chose look silly worn with the pants I selected. Sigh. Ive been thinking about ordering a linen top from Elizabeth Suzann so I chose tops that are slightly dressier than my usual to see how I do with more than a basic tee… The jury is still out on that one. still, I’ve loved seeing everyone’s outfits!

Ooooh! I’m the first to comment this post and this is my first comment on your site! I discovered it a few days ago and have been reading all of it since then. You inspire me so much! I love your style and I am trying to work my way to a minimalistic, responsible (and vegan) wardrobe and Unfancy is a big help!
I also love your state of mind, no guilt, no rules, and you seem like a very generous and caring person. That is so nice and refreshing :)

Thanks a lot for your work here!

PS: I live in Paris, France, and I can tell you you’ve got a parisian vibe going in your clothes ;)

Packing tonight for a 10 day trip…you gals are my inspiration! Years ago in a design class, a remember a professor saying to look in our closets to determine our homes style. When I pack I am remembered how true this can be. What’s in your closet makes a great decor! Happy weekend. Enjoy it. You’ve pulled off another successful quest.-Laurel Bledsoe

That is excellent advice! I’m always amazed at how much my home and wardrobe styles play off each other. :)

I LOVED participating in the 10×10 and will absolutely do it again! I’m still digesting what I learned, but I did end up having to grab a second pair of shoes for warmth (I had only given myself one pair for the challenge), and I also learned that I really prefer to wear skirts with heels. I generally have a pretty utilitarian view of shoes, so I was honestly surprised that I had such strong feelings about the flat shoes/skirt combination. I’m curious to see if that applies to other flats that I own but are a little less substantial than the ballet flat moccasins I was wearing for the challenge. How fascinating!

Sweet outfit. I like that this dress is slightly form fitting.
I always wonder how anyone walks around in flats. I used to have a collection of beautiful colorful flats few years back till I grew plantar fasciitis due to walking for long with them. Switching back to shoes with support cured it but I miss open toe flats. Do these have any support or do they hurt after walking all day?

I didn’t do the challenge, but loved following yours. After lusting after your cashmere cardigan, I was stalking a similar one on eBay. Then today I found this one:

NWT and $3.95 at my favorite thrift shop. Never expected that great of a find! Thanks for the inspiration and looking forward to working it into my wardrobe!

I’ve been following you and enjoying you and Lee’s 10 x 10 for quite a while now. Now that I finally have all of the winter clothing put to bed and my warm weather wardrobe front and center, I am going to participate in your next challenge! I’m excited to “play” with my clothing and see what happens!

Hi Caroline! I love the 10×10 approach to dressing and realized this week how fabulous it could work for someone who travels a lot! I spend half of my time in Oakland, CA and half in Santa Cruz, CA. Its about a 1 hour drive and I never know how long I will be in 1 location. I love that I could pack only 10 items and pretty much be ready for anything. It’s brilliant! I’m going to give it a try next week, so excited!

This was the first time I’ve participated in the challenge (although I always read through your 10×10 posts with great interest!) and I definitely learned a lot. Will be thinking through all of this for Monday :) Looking forward to hearing what you learned!

    Hi Caroline,
Big fan of your posts since last year! Ur truly an inspiration…sent you my very first comment/question about a day ago, but not sure if I did it correctly? Wanted to know how you break-in or wear your Madewell Lace-up sandals without getting blisters on the back of your foot, around the Achilles’ tendon? Thank you!

Hey hey, I must have missed your question! I had to use some moleskin padding on the heel to break them in. If you don’t have that available, you can try band-aids or even a wax (anti-blister balm). Hope that helps!

Loved the series! Challenges definitely helps in forcing out the creativity and just complete it… which you’ve done so wonderfully :) Also, I adore those lace up flats! I know they’re super ‘mafan’ to wear at times, but hey, they look too cute!

    mafan = troublesome
