Time for outfit two!
In case you missed it, for the next two weeks, I’m joining forces with my blogging pal Lee of Style Bee, and we’re hosting a remix challenge: 10 pieces of clothing, 10 outfits, 10 days. Want to join? It’s not too late to jump in! Here’s my quick start guide.
First Impressions
Oh, hey. :) Just wearing this peachy-pink top again. In the short time I’ve had it, this little guy has worked up the ranks in my closet and is now hanging out in my top 3 favs. Can’t get enough of that color.
So far, I haven’t gotten too creative with styling it and I’m totally okay with that because I love it with black bottoms — black jeans, black denim cutoffs, stuff like that. I’ll branch out soon enough.
This outfit works for me today because it’s comfortable enough for working from home (stretchy jeans, sturdy tee), but it’s cute enough to go out tonight, too. We’re headed out to a community event — our local winery is putting on a little food and wine event for Easter. Cool, huh? I’m excited about it and we love supporting our local businesses and events.
I’ll probably add a statement necklace for the event and bring my long cardigan just in case I get chilly. But, gotta be honest, my jean jacket is calling my name with this outfit. Can’t you just see that denim blue looking so good with this peachy-pink + black palette? My jean jacket isn’t in my 10 pieces, but there’s a 20% chance I’m going to break the rules and wear it anyway. :)
Styling Notes
BASIC OUTFIT, STATEMENT COLOR | You all know I use accessories sparingly. But can color be considered an accessory? :) Hah, okay maybe not, but it’s a statement (at least in my book!). So since this color is such a statement, it elevates this otherwise basic outfit.
ACCESSORIZE … OR NOT | This is a super simple look with no jewelry and not much styling — but it works for a day of working from home, like today. However, like I mentioned earlier, I’ll probably add a statement necklace and jacket when I go out later tonight.
CROP TOP + HIGH WAIST | When I included two crop tops in my 10 pieces, I knew this would become a reoccurring theme. It’s one of my favorite proportions to wear. Fair warning: you’ll see it a lot in these styling notes. :)
CUFFED JEANS + ANKLE BOOTIES | It’s a simple little styling move, but I gave the jeans a thicker cuff than usual so more ankle shows. That extra peek of skin makes this jeans + bootie combo feel less fall and more spring.

I love the simplicity of this outfit and the proportions are great. This would also make a great travel outfit. P.s. My vote is go for the jean jacket!
I agree with jean jacket! The 10×10 is a guideline to get experimenting, right? What is the worst thing that happens if you break the rules? A fat lot of nothing! Go for what feels right (and make me feel better when I break the rules too…! I can already feel it coming).
I got a little behind and have only posted one outfit so far, because I was camping. OTOH, I only wore 1 other outfit (for three days since I was camping) so I’m not so far behind!!!
Here’s my first outfit:
Spring 10 x 10 – Outfit 1 – http://wp.me/p7K4R6-4n
Yes ladies! I went for the jean jacket. :) Worked out great!
Skinny jeans and a boxy tee are such a flattering silhouette! Again, love this blush tee :)

I love the crop top/high waist look.
Love the black and cognac with the earthy pink! And I totally think color is an accessory – never put it into words that way before, but I am way less likely to wear jewelry or other accesories with a colorful outfit. It just feels like too much for me. Like you, neutrals are my fav
xo,
Laura
Just keep it simple, right Laura? :)
Caroline! The crop wide top and skinny look is so great on you! This outfit exactly highlights my latest quandary – how I feel about a wider leg pant. I’m giving it a go for the 10×10 but I’m definitely more comfortable and feel more like me in my skinnies. I can’t decide if I should just stick with the skinnies or keep trying the wider leg. Comparison pic here:

I checked out your post and imo keep the longest length. For me, crop wide leg looks best if it has a break over the shoe. Imo, a shorter crop looks like high waters. But! The trendy look is ankle length… If you want to go for that, give it 6 months and I think your eye will adjust. It is still pretty new and strange looking (even though it has been popping up in print since late 2015) but so were skinny jeans in 2007. By 2010, nothing else was thought of. So I think you will get used to it and feel comfortable but it’s not the main cut at the moment so it still feels unusual.
Thanks Louise! I’m glad I kept the length so I can go back and forth as I decide what length I like :)
So creative, Karen! I think both look nice, but the crop is definitely very modern for right now. :)
How do you make yourself look so tall? If I recall you are pretty petite but your photos make you look tall!
-Kirsten // http://www.porkandcookies.com
Hey Kirsten, I don’t know! Must be lucky angles. I’m 5’5″, but I hear all the time that people think I’m taller. Didn’t you know the camera adds 5 inches?? Hah! ;)
So cute, Caroline. Love the peach + black + cognac.
Just something I thought was worth pointing out: I noticed that because your skin tone is so close to the peachy pink top, your ankles showing actually kind of bookends the look. That colour really does look lovely on you. I would definitely wear it with your jean jacket. My favourite pairing would actually be with light denim. :) I’m ready for full-on spring!
Good call, Katharine! I didn’t even think of that :)
What happened to your old black jeans?
Hey there Lyn! You know how I wanted this capsule-ish to be more open ended and free flowing? This is an example of it. :) My old ones have a low rise and I’ve had high rise black jeans on my list for quite some time now, so I finally pulled the trigger on ’em. I can get more use out of them since so many of my fav proportions include a high rise (high rise + front tuck, high rise + crop top, etc.). At the moment, both my old and new pair live in my capsule and I’m okay with that, even if it’s not very “minimalist”. I’ll chat more about it in my monthly capsule update after the 10×10. :)
I think the high-rise looks great on you. The most important thing for high-rise jeans (which are all I wear) is that they don’t gap out in the back of the waist. That’s why I can’t wear boyfriend jeans. I just can’t tolerate that.
I love everything about this outfit! May need to get that shirt myself ;)
It’s so versatile, Anna! :)
question about the jeans: are they true to size? i’ve been sitting on them FOR MONTHS and have not been able to pull the trigger on it.
Hey Lan, for me they were true to size. I took the same size I wear in Madewell jeans and they fit perfectly in the waist. However! Big difference to note: they fit much more like a legging than a jean. The legs are SNUG. When I first put them on I was like “no way” haha. :) But they are actually super stretchy and mold to your body a bit over time — kind of like yoga pants. And the thing that sold me: the waist doesn’t slip down on me, even with the high rise. YAY. I plan to wash them on cold and never put them in the dryer so they don’t shrink. Hope that helps! :)
Morning- Just hopped over to Lee’s blog too. You two are inspirations for all ages! Simple, and classic theories. While some of us “over 50” crowd can’t tuck as much as you guys do…we can improvise! – Laurel Bledsoe
Yes you can, Laurel! I know you’re out there making it work. :)
Love the simplicity of this outfit & loving the 10×10 so far!

Isn’t it fun, Madeline? :)
Such a simple outfit yet so cute!

Loving the vibe of your new photo style! You look so happy :)
Thank you, Christy!! :)
I love that you are sharing your social calendar with us! It really helps bring the story to life – where you’re actually going in that cute outfit.
How do you like the Mott and Bow jeans? My old favorite pair of Joe’s are starting to thin out in the booty so I’m keeping an eye out for an eventual replacement.
Hey Emily, I love them so far. And they have a cool feature when ordering online — you can try on 2 sizes and send back the ones that don’t work! It makes online ordering much more convenient. Plus they are comfortable and have a great high-rise, which I love right now. :) One fit note: they fit much more like a legging than a jean. The legs are SNUG. When I first put them on I was like “no way” haha. :) But they are actually super stretchy and mold to your body a bit over time — kind of like yoga pants. Thank you! That sounds a lot like my favorite pair. They don’t last as long as 98-100% cotton but they are so comfy.
Still loving this blush top. Sometimes simple is best. <3 If it works, it works, right?!

Love that top … I have a couple “blush” blouses, but both are much lighter. I like this color better. It’s far more flattering ~ in fact, it’s awesome on you! I’m keeping mostly items in blush and blue in my otherwise neutral capsule selections.
I’m STILL working on the “sort/donate” step of drastically reducing my closet, but I’m nearing completion. At least I’m at the procuring “shelf storage baskets” stage … =).
Go Kathleen! It’s a process for sure. But keep plugging along — I’m cheering you on from here! :)
Love the blush top! I have one in my ten items also, and I’m having a hard time not wearing it every day! :D

Nice, Lauren! It has served my wardrobe so well, being a pretty color, but still neutral enough to mix with nearly anything else! :)
Crop tops are really cool! I like to layer mine over dresses but this pink one is so pretty and simple with the black inny jeans. (high rise is the best! I don’t think I could ever go back to low rise now that I know the feeling of full coverage.). I really like how you use colors and shapes to make your outfits interesting rather than throwing on a ton of extras, it seems very relaxing and low fuss.
Thanks Katie! And I agree — I am really loving high rise pants, especially with the cropped tees. It just works so well and I don’t see myself giving up that silhouette anytime soon! :)
Oh! What do you think of these Matt & Bow pants? I’ve been eyeing the company for awhile now!
Hey Constance, I love them so far. And they have a cool feature when ordering online — you can try on 2 sizes and send back the ones that don’t work! It makes online ordering much more convenient. Love the t-shirt color combined with a black denim and ankle boots! Looks great on you! http://www.creativesis.com
