10x10 Wardrobe Challenge, Outfits: Spring, remix series, spring outfits

spring 10×10: outfit 9

04/20/17

Well, the spring 10×10 is officially winding down. Just ONE more outfit to go!

I’ve had so much fun hosting this challenge with my lovely friend Lee of Style Bee, but we’re also pretty excited to see the rest of our closets again. Soon, soon! :)

First Impressions

Aaron and I are headed to Las Vegas today and I can’t handle the excitement — we are going to see John Mayer in concert! Cue the fangirling. Have you heard his new album yet? It’s fantastic. Give it a listen, and then let’s discuss.

Curious what I’m wearing to the concert? I’m wearing my boho dress and these ankle booties. I may have had this outfit planned for months. :)

Anyway, back to today. Since we’re traveling today, this is my comfortable + chic airport outfit. It’s got all the elements of a good travel outfit:

  • Broken-in booties to keep my feet warm + comfortable for lots of walking
  • A big tote for carrying things like my water bottle, snacks, and Kindle
  • A soft cardigan for warmth and comfort

Styling Notes

ALL-BLACK BASE | This is definitely the chicest outfit of the remix so far — mostly thanks to the all-black base. Not only is it chic, it’s also a safe choice for a long day of travel — no need to stress about spills when wearing head to toe black.

DRESSING FOR VARYING TEMPERATURES | This cashmere cardigan is definitely on the delicate side, but it’s warmth qualities cannot be overstated. I love that it’s so lightweight but it holds warmth like crazy and seriously wards off airport chills. However, I’ve got a silk top on underneath, which is cool against the skin. So if I get too warm, I can shed the cardi and keep cool.

OPTIONAL STATEMENT NECKLACE | When I travel, I usually like to go accessory-free. But after you arrive at your destination, sometimes there’s no time to stop at the hotel to change. You’ve got to be ready to hit the ground running. So I always keep a statement necklace in my bag, just in case I need to dress things up quickly.

And there you have it!

Make sure to hop on over to Lee’s blog to see her outfit today, too!

We usually chat about clothes in the comments, but today, let’s talk about music! What do you think of JM’s new album? Got any new favorite songs + albums to share? Let’s see, I’ve also been really into Oh Wonder’s new stuff. Have you heard it yet?

Don’t forget to share your outfits on Instagram with the #spring10x10 tag.

See you tomorrow for our last outfit!

xo,

I don’t follow John Mayer these days, but I saw Dreamcar last night, they are made up of the male members of No Doubt (drums, base, guitar) and the lead singer of AFI on vocals.

So great to see you team up with Lee of Style Bee. Her style is completely different from yours and I’m biased because I’m also a Canadian, so her weather was relatable to me. It was a great combination. Hope you do it every season!

I think this is my favorite outfit of the challenge so far! Very much my style. I’ve been on the hunt for a cozy cashmere cardigan, but it looks like the Cuyana one has drop-shoulders. I avoid those as the seam bother me. Anyone have an alternative recommendation for a cozy cashmere cardigan? Preferably one that is not too thick nor heavy, drapes nicely, and has pockets? (Quite the wishlist, huh?)

I think this look is my favorite so far! Simple, but so chic.

Question about this cardigan. I was debating about buying it in grey but the stock photos make it look pretty sheer. I was also worried about pilling. Can you speak to either of those? And are you wearing XS/S?

I love your lists on Spotify (Morning Tea is my favorite). Any chance you want to do a John Mayer themed/inspired one and share it out to us people who are too lazy and just want to mooch good music off of primo curators such as yourself!?

    Thanks,

Love the idea of keeping a statement piece (earrings, scarf, necklace, hair clip, etc.) handy for dressing up the airport outfit upon arrival. I tend to fly sans accessories to minimize time and effort in the security lines, but I have also experienced the need to hit the ground running, especially for work trips. Great tip!

For music, when I’m working I gravitate toward “tranquil atmospheric” music (that’s a genre, right?), which often includes music from movie or game soundtracks (I’m starting to believe video game soundtracks have some of the most motivating music, since video games are designed to compel you forward or keep you engaged in the game). Here’s a sample of the things I like to listen to when I’m first settling in to do work: https://open.spotify.com/user/annabjoyful/playlist/11V3PjxdarwuVveMrMhsfs

For chill times, I’m a pretty big City and Colour fan, and I have several Andy Grammer and Meghan Trainor tunes on my workout playlists. One song I’ve been jamming on for a while is A Hundred Sinners by The Feeling: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE_as9A_YT8. I’ll enjoy listening to the John Mayer album this week :)

Also, as a DJ for swing dancers, I go through cycles of discovering and acquiring both old and new swing music. If that’s you’re jam, some modern artists who are making great recordings of old classics or even creating their own original swing compositions are Mint Julep Jazz Band, Michael Gamble and The Rhythm Serenaders, Candy Jacket Jazz Band, Moonshine Rhythm Club, and the variety of bands put together by Jonathan Stout, Craig Gildner, and Glenn Crytzer. The old (recorded in the 30s) swing song that I’m loving to listen and dance to right now is this adorable version of Pop Goes the Weasel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoSslt63eCQ

Thanks for the chance to geek out on a topic I love!

    Cute outfit!
I went to a John Mayer concert like 3 1/2 years ago. He was really, really good. But…I was in the first trimester if my first pregnancy and so exhausted I ended up falling asleep in the camp chair I was sitting on. Lol. His music is just so soothing. My husband and the friends we went with still get a laugh out of that.
I’m sure you won’t have that same problem. Have so much fun!

I think the necklace makes this outfit. It works so well to pop against the black.

Haven’t heard JM’s new album, but I went to my first concert in years last week. Explosions in the Sky was here. They are from Austin. They were AMAZING. I had to go alone, but it was so worth every minute of awkwardness once they started playing. :) :)

I absolutely love this outfit! That funky necklace makes it, IMO. Hope you have an awesome time at the concert! I saw John Mayer at Jazzfest about 10 years ago, and I remember he was great live. Need to check out his new stuff! Currently on my playlist is lots of alternative/electronic… Glass Animals has been on repeat lately in the car. Love the topic of music and wouldn’t mind it getting brought up more. ;)

Question: how do you feel that cardigan works over tops with wider sleeves? Did you have trouble tucking the wider sleeves on your Georgia tee in to the cardigan?

Hey Andrea! It didn’t seem too troublesome. Maybe since both fabrics are smooth and soft, so they don’t bunch up? If I find it to be a problem in the future, I might try to fold the Georgia sleeve under my arm. :)

I shouldn’t admit it, but I have no idea who “JM” is?? I’m in the black hole of music over here in London since I don’t have a car (where the majority of new music is consumed). My most recent music purchase was an old album from Sarah Blasko, and one from Grace VanderWaal.

I wasn’t too impressed with his newest album. :( I’m a huge fan of his older, more blues-y stuff– my favorite album is probably a tie between the John Mayer Trio album and Continuum– so the more folksy and pop vibe of his last three albums didn’t quite do it for me! So glad you brought this up, though, haha. :)

Caroline, do you mind measuring the waist/length of the Elizabeth Suzann top for me please? Trying to decide between the OS and OS-. How tall are you btw? I’m 5’2 so I need it to not go over that fine line from oversized to looking like a five year old wearing their dad’s tshirts haha ;)

Hey Anna, the top is 26″ wide and 20″ long (the OS). I’m 5/5″. Hopefully that helps! :)
